IT'S FRIDAY. LET'S HAVE A LOOK AT CONSERVATIVE HERO, TED NUGENT:

UPDATE BELOW

This explains a lot about whom the conservatives admire.  And the person Willard Romeny sought for an endorsement:

"Mitt Romney actively sought, and won, Ted Nugent’s endorsement in early March.
According to a report in the Texas Tribune and Nugent himself, the two had a lengthy conversation about gun laws and the endorsement on March 2nd.
Nugent made Romney pledge not to put any new restrictions on guns. Romney obliged."

Ted Nugent quotes:

“If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year,”

"...as reported by the Raw Story, Nugent told his [NRA] audience that they should view President Obama and other Democrats as wild animals invading their homes. Like a coyote "in your living room pissing on your couch. It's not the coyote's fault. It's your fault for not shooting him."

“Obama, he’s a piece of sh-t, and I told him to suck on my machine gun … Hey Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch … Any questions? Freeeeeeeeeeeedom!!!!!” — on stage in 2007

“And in my mind, I’m going why can’t I just shoot this [Hare Krishna] guy in the spine right now; shoot him in the spine, explain the facts of life to him. — WRIF-FM, Detroit, Ted Nugent as guest D.J., Sept. 28, 1990

Sarah Palin, the darling of the Tea Party and promoter of American ideals and patriotism, loves her Nugent:

IOKIYAR!

UPDATE

Army Cancels Ted Nugent Show

"Citing inflammatory language while expressing his displeasure with President Barack Obama, the military has uninvited rock star and conservative political activist Ted Nugent from performing at Fort Knox in Kentucky, according to the U.S. Army post’s Facebook page.

“After learning of opening act Ted Nugent’s recent public comments about the president of the United States, Fort Knox leadership decided to cancel his performance on the installation," it's Facebook posting says.

So far, the June 23 concert remains on the Fort Knox schedule, with REO Speedwagon and Styx listed as “co-headliners,” but army personnel said they will grant requests for refunds in light of their decision to nix the opening act."

AND THIS:

CNN) -- Rocker and avid hunter Ted Nugent has agreed to pay a fine, serve probation and record a public service announcement as part of a deal to plead guilty to transporting an illegally killed black bear in Alaska, according to court documents.

The plea deal, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Anchorage, Alaska, stems from federal allegations that arose during a bear hunt in May 2009 that was filmed for Nugent's television show, "Spirit of the Wild," on the Outdoor Channel.

News of the plea deal broke a day after Nugent was questioned and cleared by the Secret Service over comments he made at an annual meeting of the National Rifle Association where he said he would be "dead or in jail" if President Barack Obama were re-elected.

In the plea agreement, Nugent admitted to shooting and killing a bear using a bow and arrow during a hunt on Sukkwan Island in southeast Alaska, just days after he wounded another bear.
Alaska limits licensed hunters to the bagging of one bear per hunting season. Under the law, the wounding of a bear counts toward the season's bag limit.

"Nugent failed to locate and harvest the wounded bear," the plea agreement said.

Where the federal charge against Nugent -- a misdemeanor count of violating the Lacey Act -- comes in to play, according to court documents, is that he left the island by boat with the dead bear and "knew or should have known, in the exercise of due care, that the black bear was taken, possessed or transported in violation of a law or regulation of the United States."

Yeesh, and I thought rappers were vulgar. This guy has serious issues. Most likely nobody's told him, of course -- it might make him want to shoot them in the spine.

Not a bad draft-evasion scheme, though. I wouldn't criticize anyone for that.

To get an idea of what is so blatantly hypocritical about the right's acceptance of and pride in Nugent's antics, all you have to do is substitute Nugent's name for, say, Sean Penn's, and imagine how the right would be falling all over themselves with outrage.

It's amusing, really, to see the GOP nominee for the presidency embrace an idiot like Nugent.

It's not so much amusing in Palin's case as it is predictable.

Foul-mouthed creeps are acceptable to Palin so long as they're not insulting her or her family.

This is nothing like Obama saying he revered Jeremiah Wright who was an outspoken American hater.
Nothing like Bill Ayers who bombed US property.

It's not so much amusing in the leftist case as it is predictable.

skudrunner, you're correct.

This is nothing like the Rev. Wright controversy because Mr. Obama cut all ties with him and denounced him.

Romeny went after Nugent's endorsement and has not cut ties with him even after Nugent's treasonous comments.

Mr. Obama did not seek the endorsement of Ayers either, who, BTW, has redeemed himself over the years and is not going around threating the lives of presidents and demeaning Secretarys of State.

There is no equivalence.

Nothing wrong with Mitt embracing his lunatic base. May that serve him well with independents and sane Republicans in the Fall.

BTW, is there any stipulation that says invertebrates cannot run for president?

Ted Nugent a coward's man. Too chicken-livered to fight for his country.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw, I can understand that people are mad and angry. Let's face it, the economy is still in the tank, many are still without jobs, and here in Las Vegas, only about 6 people have a mortgage that is worth anywhere near the value of their home.

If my experience is typical, a lot of us have been wiped out financially in the last few years. My home was my retirement, now I've got nothing and at 54, I am starting over, making very little.

I am not happy with President Obama.

I know he was dealt a crappy hand, but he forgot about us main street folks. He did seem to have a plan for us... he did save the bankers and the brokers, but not us.

He promised openness in his administration and has reversed that. He argued against taking private money for campaigns, and reversed that. He said he would close Abu Grahib, and that is still open. Even his signature legislative accomplishment, the Health Care Act, is weak and will not solve anything.

It turns out that health care reform is really nothing more than a bill to regulate the health care industry. It is not about care. No single payer, no real help for the middle class, and almost indefensible for the Dems that have to run for office with it on their record.

How many of them will we see doing a Santorum, saying they took one for the team? If we take out the pre-existing condition clause and the extension of age for single kids, the bill sucks.

But I still support President Obama, because the vision of the current group of GOP leaders is more of what got us into this mess in the first place.

I still support President Obama because he has stood at the brink and made some great decisions. The bailout of GM and the OBL event come to mind.

I still support President Obama because I will not support a party that refuses, or is unable to speak up when elected officials calls 80 Democrats Communists and then when pressed to offer up those names, waffles. And he did not just waffle, he Belgium Waffled, big time.

I still support President Obama because while we have a lot of nuts in our party, when they go off the rails like Nugent did, he kicks them to the curb.

Is President Obama perfect? No way. But unless and until the GOP Leadership starts to respond to misogyny, intimidating comments, baseless accusations like the ones made by Congressman West, and sees feckless name calling for what it is, I'll never vote for a GOP candidate.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave, you express my feelings exactly. I've been disappointed as well with what I thought would happen in Mr. Obama's administration. [BTW, I know you mean Gitmo, not Abu Ghrahib]. To be fair, I remember it was members of his own party as well as the GOP who blocked his plans to close it down because they wouldn't fund the transfer of prisons elsewhere.

The health care bill is a mess, and again, blue dog Democrats were not helpful to him, and he got no cooperation from the GOP whatsoever. Could he have cajoled and manipulated certain members to get a better bill? Perhaps. But that's second-guessing.

I understand the economic situation because members of my family are hurting in this economy and live from pay check to pay check. One relative I spoke with today was contemplating dropping insurance coverage for a child because of the expense each month!

The most depressing part in all of this is that our problems can be solved because they were caused by us.

I'm watching a once great country destroy itself with partisan bickering and intransigence, and for what purpose?

Do sane people actually believe that the Republcan Party will be able to make this country prosperous again?

Do people really, really believe that once a GOP president gets in office that by some miracle everyone will start cooperating?

If coming together in cooperation and compromise would bring about solutions to our serious problems, why didn't we begin that process on January 21, 2009?

Instead, we were served up, thanks to the conservative noise machine, a hope for failure.

With the exception of Lincoln, I can't think of any other president who was faced with such rancor and contempt.

No wonder we're in such a slow and painful recovery.

But I'm with you on my determination to work hard for Mr. Obama.

As I've said before, there is no US president who has had a perfect record in office.

I'm well aware of the fact that they are all flawed human beings.

i can't think of a more revolting person than ted nugent and that has nothing to do with his latest antics. his whole persona has been disgusting for as long as i can remember.

i think obama has done pretty well with the economy. many people tend to forget just how bad things were in 2009, the highly levered fractional banking system was on the precipice of economic destruction. i think he's been a big disappointment on social issues like gay rights and the war on drugs.

Shaw Kenawe said...

billy,

Obama did get rid of that odious "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" rule in the military. It forced men and women to lie about who they were. Awful.

Props for that to Obama.

I wish he were stronger on his support for marriage for everyone. This "he's evolving" doesn't cut for me at all.

He has to be careful about his statements about the war on drugs.

Clearly, it is destructive to our society--we have the largest prison population in the world. Horrid stat.

But he has to be careful about where he goes on that issue, or the opposition will label him soft on crime, or some such nonsense.

No matter what he does, what he supports, what he condemns, the conservatives will call him the reincarnation of Hitlerstalinmao.

He cannot catch a break from the whiners.

Smiling as I read this comment thread.

I particularly enjoyed Dave's comments. Don't agree with em all but sure as hell don't disagree with a bunch of em either. I haven't the time to get specific but I'm going to guess you all pretty much know were I come down on his comments.

As to hypocrisy, well, neither "side" has a monopoly on it, and I'm gonna guess If somebody took the time to document it all (as if that is possible) the score would be pretty even. Especially over the last 11 plus years.

Just sayin...

Oh, I almost forgot to mention. Ted's remarks were over the top, insensitive, ill advised, and Romney should make a public statement critical of Ted's remarks. As should the NRA.

Jerry Critter said...

RN,
"Ted's remarks were over the top, insensitive, ill advised, and Romney should make a public statement critical of Ted's remarks. As should the NRA."

Agree, but do you really, honestly, think they ever would?

I don't.

Les Carpenter said...

Jerry I do believe you are right.

Dave Miller said...

Jerry and RN, and I agree. We will hear people of the GOP defend Nugent and his right to say what he wants, but few will invoke the words of the Apostle Paul when he said all is legal, but not all that is legal is good. (Yes, it's my paraphrase)

For me, one of the biggest faults of the right is their failure to live the ideals of the book they claim as sacred, the bible.

How does the Christian right consider others better than themselves? Another jewel from Paul.

Retreat on this will not be seen. You'll sooner see them double down.

Shaw, yes, thank you... GITMO.

well... Nugent was, at his best, a rather mediocre musician; never very original and innovative. As a political pundit, he is even worse.

That any politician would embrace him for a political endorsement is very much like an article from "The Onion"

Nugent is the perfect representative of the conservative party. They obviously love him. Look at the smile on Sarah's face. He's everything the love in an entertainer: vulgar, gun-toting idiot.

It's not surprising that Palin would like Nugent. didn't she allow the shooting of wolves from helicopters when she was Alaska governor?

He's the sort of low-class moron she'd be attracted to and identify with.

Yeah, we all weighed in. Now let the sh*t go and discuss something of real importance.

Yeah, I know, just my opinion. BUT Really...

Jerry, just got back from dinner and a few beers at a new restaurant in town. Food was great, company was fabulous, beers were, well beers, and the after dinner espresso and brandy really hit the spot.

I just did.

@skudrunner

Go to Rev. Wright's wiki page and look at the photo of him with Bill Moyer and LBJ. He got a commendation for saving the President life. He had two college differments and first served in the Navy and later in the Marines. He also went overseas when Jesse Jackson went to free an American Pilot. Guess who spoke Classical Arabic? The GD America comment he made was in response to Ronald Reagan financing al Qaeda.

How it's going Shaw, long time no see. Over at Daily Kos they have a article on most of the top businesses that aren't investing or hiring people, heck they're even firing people. Hey kid!

I was wondering what happened to you. Your blog was silent for quite a while.

I remember you had an infestation of horrible racist trolls. Maybe you fumigated the place and now it's safe to return?

I thought that or that you were too busy with other things. Are you back to blogging?

RN,

I know you don't mean to be a scold, but some bloggers like to vary the subjects of their posts. The post below the Nugent one is about creation, and I even posted a poem I wrote about it. Is that being frivolous? No, of course not.

If all I posted about was the difficult problems this nations faces, I'd probably collapse with depression.

Les Carpenter said...

Sometimes I vary subjects as well.

Perhaps I should put up some of my poetry?

Well, maybe that wouldn't be such a great idea. Although my wife likes some of it! ;)
