One of the giants in acting.
I love that Lawrence of Arabia scene.
I think I enjoyed his Mr. Chips more than any of the others, although for me the tepid music got in the way, and I would never have chosen Petula Clark to play the role made famous by the always-magnificent Greer Garson.
O'Toole was terrific in The Lion in Winter, but I've always felt that script highly overrated.
Almost a miracle he lived past the age of eighty considering how unabashedly dissipated he was.
I have a feeling I would have enjoyed his presence onstage at the Old Vic more than any of his film appearances.
It was always a joy, however, just to hear him talk. but that is true of nearly all the brilliant extraordinarily well-trained Brits.
May flights of angels sing him to his rest.
"My Favorite Year"...my favorite film.
now I feel like my father felt...when the icons of entertainment of his generation passed on. ah, life! too fleeting and so long.... so long Peter O'Toole.
Your top two videos are my favorite performances by him. He had eight Academy Award nominations, but zero wins. He did get a lifetime achievement Oscar.
The year O'Toole played either Henry II in Lion in Winter or in Beckett, he lost to an American actor, Cliff Robertson. I think a lot had to do with the Academy's penchant for favoring American actors over foreigners. Cliff Robertson? Over O'Toole? Preposterous! Stupid!
