This is the judge the conservatives admire.

Anyone can see the appearance of a conflict of interest is very, very apparent here; but because he was a Supreme, we're supposed to believe that doesn't exist.

The system is rigged. And Poindexter knew how to use it.

This is from Nancy LaTourneau's blog Horizons:

Conservatives really are facing the prospect of a double whammy. They are likely to continue to control the House next year and have successfully halted anything much happening in the Senate via use of the filibuster. But now, not only is the presidency up for grabs again in November, but a Democratic appointment to the Supreme Court will swing that institution away from their agenda. That is why Martin is right when he says that they'll fight it with everything they've got.

Notice that Hewitt mentioned abortion, guns, marriage and immigration when talking about the activity of the Supreme Court. If you add it voting rights and affirmative action, you pretty much have a summary of the cultural changes that are a threat to the Confederate world view...

The essence of the Confederate worldview is that the democratic process cannot legitimately change the established social order, and so all forms of legal and illegal resistance are justified when it tries… The Confederate sees a divinely ordained way things are supposed to be, and defends it at all costs. No process, no matter how orderly or democratic, can justify fundamental change.

That "divinely ordained way things are supposed to be" includes white supremacy, control of women's reproductive choices, marriage between one man and one woman, and the elevation of gun rights over every other constitutional right.

But America is changing. And all of those things are threatened. That is what has conservatives so terrified and angry...to the point that people like Donald Trump and Ted Cruz now lead the fight for the next Republican presidential nomination.

I've written here that anger and fear is what has infected the rabid right -- to the point where they're supporting a substanceless demagogue for the presidency who promises them that he will soothe their fears and get rid of all the boogeymen they believe will take over their homes and country.

The rabid righties see this country changing, as it has changed throughout our history, and they cannot come to terms with that inevitability.

Different ranch. Same small birds getting their brains shot out, though.

Wasn't Scalia AWOL at a couple of Obama's State of the Union speeches? Turnabout is a bitch. I saw statistics on how often presidents attended Supreme Court justice funerals and its not like they always do -- often the VP goes, and sometimes I think not even the VP.

Also, Scalia went to an Italian restaurant instead of attending Obama's 2nd inaugural address. But you didn't hear the bitchers and whiners complain about that because it was disrespecting the president, something they do every day of their petty lives.

As I said, turnabout is a bitch. Obama owes Nino nothing. I'm glad he's not going. Those awful people complaining demand respect but have no problem giving nothing but insults and contempt to Mr. Obama.

Three conservative justices on the Supreme Court were noticeably absent from President Obama's final State of the Union address on Tuesday night.

Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Antonin Scalia were not present in the House chamber as the rest of their colleagues filed in.

And the rightwing crybabies are hysterical because Obama is not going to Nino's funeral. Why the f**k should he. Nino disrespected Obama dozens of times. But the wingnuts don't care about the insults Nino perpetrated while he was alive, no, all that matters is that their little pea brains think Obama is a meany because he's not going to the funeral, just going to the memorial. They can all go to hell.

Since there has been discovered a heretofore unknown obligation of a president to attend the funeral of a man who loathed him and whose life and work opposed him at every instance, thought I'd remind everybody of the man's own habits while he was alive: Scalia skipped the majority if President Obama's SOTU because he called them "childish." Scalia The Originalist mocks the US Constitution, which stipulates a report to the nation from time to time.

So Scalia died as he lived - defiantly wallowing in corruption.

Free stuff for Big Important Judges is okay with the wingers. But none for the little people!
