Anyone who believes ANYTHING Trump says...

is a bigger fool than he is.

Anyone remember this?

..................................................

So, on August 2 or 3, will Americans be informed by Trump of the "full and complete healthcare plan?"

"Complete," meaning the legislation will have passed both houses of Congress.

Has anyone, ANYONE heard anything about Trump's "full and complete healthcare plan" to date?

Or is Trump bullshitting the American people again?

And his supporters just ignore it:

FOX NEWS INTERVIEW, JULY 19, 2020, Chris Wallace:

WALLACE: Why does it make sense to overturn Obamacare which people now are relying on? Democrats are going to say, "The man who wanted to kill Obamacare is going to take away your -- the protection for pre-existing conditions."

TRUMP:  First of all, we got rid of the individual mandate.

WALLACE:  I understand.

TRUMP:  Pre-existing conditions will always be taken care of by me and Republicans, 100 percent.

WALLACE:  But you've been in office three and a half years, you don't have a plan.

TRUMP:  Well, we haven't had. Excuse me. You heard me yesterday. We're signing a health care plan within two weeks, a full and complete health care plan that the Supreme Court decision on DACA gave me the right to do. So we're going to solve -- we're going to sign an immigration plan, a health care plan, and various other plans. And nobody will have done what I'm doing in the next four weeks. The Supreme Court gave the president of the United States powers that nobody thought the president had, by approving, by doing what they did -- their decision on DACA. And DACA's going to be taken care of also. But we're getting rid of it because we're going to replace it with something much better. What we got rid of already, which was most of Obamacare, the individual mandate. And that I've already won on. And we won also on the Supreme Court. But the decision by the Supreme Court on DACA allows me to do things on immigration, on health care, on other things that we've never done before. And you're going to find it to be a very exciting two weeks.

Trump calls for delaying US elections in November

Claiming the election will be the most fraudulent in history (based on no evidence) because of mail-in ballots, Trump calls for delaying the vote in November.

Trump has no authority to do that. That would require an act of Congress.

This is exactly what many of us feared.

"There is little evidence to support Mr Trump's claims but he has long railed against mail-in voting which he has said would be susceptible to fraud US states want to make postal voting easier due to public health concerns over the coronavirus pandemic."

(CNN)On Thursday night during a virtual fundraiser, former Vice President Joe Biden floated a very scary notion.

"Mark my words: I think he is gonna try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can't be held," Biden said of President Donald Trump.

U.S. Representative Ocasio-Cortez

Not all heroes wear capes.

Earlier this week, Republican U.S. Representative from Florida, Ted Yoho, accosted Rep. Ocasio-Cortez in the U.S. House of Representatives with vulgar and abusive language and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez answered him in an intelligent, measured, and searing rebuke without using any vulgar language or name-calling. That's because she's smart, and knows how to disarm loud, boorish, little men who cannot deal with women who are smarter and more eloquent than they are.

Brava, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez. You were magnificent and a model for all our daughters!

Here are some Letters to the Editor from the New York Times praising her response:

To the Editor:
As a woman in the age of the Trump presidency, I watched Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s rebuke of Representative Ted Yoho on the House floor with profound gratitude. Women may be accustomed to experiencing sexist verbal abuse, but that doesn’t mean we have to silently accept it.
I admire Ms. Ocasio-Cortez for speaking up. In fact, every single member of Congress should be publicly denouncing Mr. Yoho’s vulgar, sexist remarks directed at one of their peers.

That you chose to frame Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s condemnation of sexism in Congress as an effort to “amplify her own political brand” and as “disruptive” is shameful. Defending the dignity and humanity of women is not a political brand. It can be seen as such only when one has accepted the status quo of allowing men to verbally assault women without consequence.
Similarly, it is Mr. Yoho’s offensive actions that should be seen as disruptive. This framing matters, and I urge you to do better.

To the Editor:
Simply put, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s words on the House floor denouncing the sexist vulgarity used against her by Representative Ted Yoho, a Florida Republican, were the most powerful and far-reaching I have heard in my 79 years.
I wish she were my representative.
To Mr. Yoho, I suggest that he resign and go into male/humanity rehab to fix himself. I also suggest that any person who feels inclined to treat another as he treated Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, please don’t.

"I wish her well." -- Donald J. Trump

Those are the words Trump used when he was asked about Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend and procurer of children, Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell didn't just help Epstein with his sex trafficking of children, she also participated in raping and molesting them, along with pedophile Epstein.

And Trump wished her well. Think about that.

A rabid consumer of news and gossip, Trump certainly knew about Epstein's and Maxwell's degenerate life-style of sexually preying on underage girls. Trump and Epstein were pals, and photos of Trump and Maxwell and Epstein, together at parties, are all over the internet. Trump knows exactly what she is. And he wished her well.

If Trump were a normal person (he isn't, he's a sick and damaged human being) his answer would have been a curt one that said something like: "This is a matter for the courts. I have no further comment."

Instead, Trump wished a known pedophile well.

Do Trump's cultists have a problem with that? No. Not that I'm aware of.

We're really coming down to the point where Trump may actually shoot someone on 5th Avenue (he's promised that his storm troopers will be sent to New York City), and his cultists will remain silent should that happen as well.

As a P.E. commenter has said, none of the people who are left supporting Trump (35%) would have remained silent if a Democratic president had said or done any of these sordid, lawless things:

This week a report revealed that in 2018, Trump tried to get America's British Ambassador to get the British Open played at his golf club in Scotland. That's an impeachable offense.

Trump is a lawless degenerate who's failed America during the worst pandemic in over 100 years. Add to that the fact that yesterday he gave his well-wishes to a woman who procured children for her lover and herself to rape.

Trump's cultists believe he's makeing America great again.

Trump’s Occupation of American Cities Has Begun

Photo via NYTimes

"A federal agent shot 26-year-old Donavan La Bella in the head with an impact munition; he was hospitalized and needed reconstructive surgery.

In a widely circulated video, a 53-year-old Navy veteran was pepper sprayed and beaten after approaching federal agents to ask them about their oaths to the Constitution, leaving him with two broken bones.

“Be wary of paramilitaries.  When the pro-leader paramilitary and the official police and military intermingle, the end has come.” --Yale historian, Timothy Snyder

"...federal agents “have been using unmarked vehicles to drive around downtown Portland, detain protesters, and place them into the officers’ unmarked vehicles” since at least last Tuesday.

The protesters are neither arrested nor told why they’re being held. There’s no way to know the affiliation of all the agents — they’ve been wearing military fatigues with patches that just say 'Police.'”

Comment in NYTimes from someone in Portland, OR:

Michael
Portland, OR

Times Pick
I live in downtown Portland, not far from the federal building where the protesters congregate. Our city is not "under siege" by radicals by any stretch of the imagination, as Trump and Fox News want people to believe. You can walk anywhere today in downtown Portland and barely realize that protests are happening here. The majority of protesters are peaceful advocates for the Black Lives Matter movement. A handful of more radical activists (mostly white youngsters) stay near the federal building late at night, spraying graffiti and lobbing items such as water bottles at the police. This is limited to fewer than 100 activists in a one square block radius and only after midnight. The protests were in fact winding down, until Trump decided to send in his federal thugs to commit violence and whip up hysteria for his base. Like all authoritarians, Trump is the one trying to create an enemy for people to fear.

WE INTERRUPT TODAY'S POST...

to remind P.E. readers what a complete and utter jackass Trump is.

Trump announces he’s reviving the virus daily briefing as cases continues to surge.

President Trump said on Monday that he is bringing back the daily coronavirus briefings that he halted in April, a tacit acknowledgment that the public health crisis that he has sought to put behind him is still ravaging much of the country.
With cases and deaths on the rise, Mr. Trump told reporters that he would probably hold the first of the new series of briefings on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

He attributed his decision to revive them not to the increasing threat of the virus but to the fact that the briefings had high television ratings.

R.I.P. JOHN LEWIS

A giant among men, John Lewis was an icon of the Civil Rights movement. He bled for justice and equality.

May he rest in peace and love.

INVICTUS by William Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Actually, as I stated in the comments to Dave, I don't want to hear anything about John Lewis from Trump. Anything Trump would say about John Lewis would only sully the great man's name.

Trump will never be the decent, brave, and honorable human being that John Lewis was. America and the world know this.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN PORTLAND, OREGON?

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON
IN PORTLAND, OREGON?

Trump’s agents are sweeping peaceful citizens off the streets. This is not America

Something terrible, something dangerous — and, yes, something unconstitutional — is happening in Portland, Ore. It must be stopped.

“Federal law enforcement officers have been using unmarked vehicles to drive around downtown Portland and detain protesters since at least July 14,” reports Oregon Public Broadcasting. “Personal accounts and multiple videos posted online show the officers driving up to people, detaining individuals with no explanation of why they are being arrested, and driving off.”
The report continues: “The tactic appears to be another escalation in federal force deployed on Portland city streets, as federal officials and President Donald Trump have said they plan to ‘quell’ nightly protests outside the federal courthouse and Multnomah County Justice Center that have lasted for more than six weeks.”
Of course, authorities — and we’ll get to the matter of what authorities in a bit — have the power to prevent violence. But that doesn’t seem to be what’s happening in Portland, where nightly protests have been taking place since early June. Law enforcement agents aren’t targeting protesters who engaged in violence; they appear to be sweeping up random people who have exercised their rights under the First Amendment.
Like Mark Pettibone, 29, who was heading home in the early hours of Wednesday morning when, according to The Post’s Katie Shepherd, “several men in green military fatigues and generic ‘police’ patches sprang out of an unmarked gray minivan.” Pettibone was detained, searched, driven to the federal courthouse, placed in a holding cell and read his Miranda rights against self-incrimination. He declined to waive them. And then, about 90 minutes later, he was released.

The POTUS is Mad, as in Crazy/Mad.

Below is an actual, untouched quote from Trump's appearance yesterday in the Rose Garden. One hour of total insanity. Trump called a press conference. Instead, it was a flame-throwing, joyless, incoherent babble, meltdown.

This is the definitive example of a mad man in charge of the United States of America. As hard as it may be, if you can force yourself, watch this. It's important to see.

REALITY FOR THE TRUMPERS

 It’s not a campaign, it’s a criminal enterprise.

America's Shame

Well of course you've all heard by now what the GOP's "president" did yesterday.

He commuted the sentence of convicted felon and dirty trickster, Roger Stone, who lied to cover up Trump's corruption.

Think about this miserable presidency headed by a treacherous liar, cheat, and con man:

Every president has early pardoned people because of personal connections and such. And some pardons/commutations are given to correct injustice. Can anyone recall any president who pardoned someone before they served their sentence at all?

Trump's usurped the judicial branch of government. That's unconstitutional, and he's doing it because he has the emotional stability of a elementary schoolyard bully. He's pissed at SCOTUS and pissed because his rally in New Hampshire for this weekend was cancelled.

Now think about the corrupt and malignant man who's currently profaning the Oval Office:

He fired Lt.Col. Vindman for complying with a lawful subpoena and for telling the truth under oath. Not only did he fire Lt.Col. Vindman, he sent Vindman's bother packing as well. Army infantry officer, Lt.Col. Vindman, who is a Purple Heart recipient,  was up for a promotion and Trump was not happy about it and interferred with it and  made it clear that "...his future within the institution he has dutifully served will forever be limited,” Vindman's attorney, David Pressman, wrote in a release.

“Through a campaign of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation, the President of the United States attempted to force LTC Vindman to choose: Between adhering to the law or pleasing a President. Between honoring his oath or protecting his career,” Vindman's attorney wrote. “Between protecting his promotion or the promotion of his fellow soldiers. These are choices that no one in the United States should confront, especially one who has dedicated his life to serving it.”

During Lt.Col. Vindman's testimony at the impeachment inquiry hearings, Vindman said that he told his father that he didn't need to worry about testifying because "this is America" and "right matters" here.

This Purple Heart recipient was wrong. During the Trump regime, "right" doesn't matter, only corruption does.

We are not the country we once were, but maybe we never were that country. Maybe all that nostalgia for love of country and flag waving was nothing but an delusion to cover the rot festering beneath the naive idea of "liberty and equal justice for all."

George Floyd's cruel murder as well as the others like his dispelled that delusion.

A raging pandemic that has been stupidly and recklessly politicized by Trump to the detriment of American lives -- 130,000 dead and more infections rising, dispelled that delusion.

Trump's commutation of a convicted felon and dirty trickster dispelled that delusion. Trump rewards lies, corruption, and even murder.  He agitates to have statues of men who committed treason against the United States preserved and put in a "heroes park." He punishes and mocks men and women who've bled for and served their country with distinction and honor.

These are facts. The GOP's president is a dishonorable failure of a man and president, and he is the GOP's shame.

But worse, Trump is America's shame.

A vindictive little draft dodging coward lives in the White House

The GOP's president who cheated on his SAT exams to get into Wharton (according to his niece, Mary Trump), and whose father got a doctor to lie about bone spurs to get Trump out of serving in Vietnam, has forced a military hero, who's still walking around with schrapnel in his body, out of continuing to serve his country.

Trump ordered the Pentagon to find something, anything, to deny Lt.Col Alexander Vindman's upcoming promotion. There was no misconduct to be found, and yet the promotion was still being withheld by the vindictive little draft-dodging coward who lives in the White House.'

Another instance of  Trump's jealousy of any man or woman who has more character, honor, and decency than he has.

America will remember in November yet another miserable failure by this miserable little con man.

An Army officer who was a prominent witness in the impeachment inquiry into President Trump last year said on Wednesday he has decided to retire after his promotion was imperiled by objections from the White House

The incident is the latest in what Pentagon and congressional officials say could be another flash point between the president and the military. Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman, a decorated Iraq war veteran who served on the staff of the White House National Security Council, is among scores of officers who have been picked to be promoted to full colonel this year.

Typically, such promotions are backed by Army and Pentagon officials before moving to the White House for final approval, and then to the Senate for a confirmation vote. But the White House had made clear to officials in the Pentagon’s office of personnel and readiness, which handles such matters, that Mr. Trump did not want to see Colonel Vindman promoted, officials said.

Mr. Trump’s allies at the White House asked Pentagon officials to find instances of misconduct by Colonel Vindman that would justify blocking his promotion, administration officials said on Wednesday. On multiple occasions, including this week, the White House pressed the Pentagon to seek witnesses who would come forward and say that Colonel Vindman acted improperly, the officials said.

But Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy have been unable to produce such evidence, largely because it does not exist, according to one administration official.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity. Colonel Vindman announced his decision in a short Twitter message on Wednesday morning. “Today I officially requested retirement from the U.S. Army, an organization I love,” he said. “My family and I look forward to the next chapter of our lives.”

Hattie McDaniel

Hattie McDaniel received a plaque-style Oscar, approximately 5.5 inches (14 cm) by 6 inches (15 cm), the type awarded to all Best Supporting Actors and Actresses at that time. She and her escort were required to sit at a segregated table for two at the far wall of the room; her white agent, William Meiklejohn, sat at the same table.

The hotel had a strict no-blacks policy, but allowed McDaniel in as a favo. The discrimination continued after the award ceremony as well as her white co-stars went to a "no-blacks" club, where McDaniel was also denied entry.

Another black woman did not win an Oscar again for 50 years, with Whoopi Goldberg winning Best Supporting Actress for her role in Ghost.

Weeks prior to McDaniel winning her Oscar, there was even more controversy. David Selznick, the producer of Gone With the Wind, omitted the faces of all the black actors on the posters advertising the movie in the South. None of the black cast members, including Hattie McDaniel, were even allowed to attend the premiere for the movie.

Monuments to Racism and Terror

Guy Raz, Journalist, NPR:

Whenever I hear white Americans say “my family had nothing to do with slavery so why should I apologize” I think of Willy Brandt.
Willy Brandt was Germany’s Chancellor from 1969 to 1974. In 1970, he made an historic visit to Poland. Brandt came to the site of the Warsaw Ghetto—an open-air walled prison where the Nazis forced Jews to live before “liquidating” it in 1943. Brandt came to acknowledge Germany’s culpability in the murder of 3 million Polish Jews—90% of the country’s Jewish population and nearly half of the 6 million Jews killed and burned to ash by the Nazis.
Brandt was there to lay a wreath. But as he approached the memorial, he fell to his knees in anguish. It was an act of deep humility and courage. At the time, there were older Germans who hated it. Who saw it as a sign of weakness. Brandt’s gesture could not bring back 6 million murdered Jews or the millions of European civilians also murdered. But it was the beginning of Germany’s true reckoning with the past.
It’s important to add that Willy Brandt fled Nazi Germany as a young man and survived the war in hiding as a dissident. He was a marked man by the Nazis often escaping capture and death. So if anyone had an excuse to say “I’m not responsible for what my country did”—it was him. But Brandt understood that he was part of a society that committed mass murder on an unimaginable scale. And he had to act.
Brandt knelt in Warsaw a few years before I was born. But as a descendant of victims, I remember learning about what he did—even as a child. It wasn’t going to erase the past...but it was a start toward reconciliation and building a more just society
As a boy in the early 1980s, I remember my parents had friends in their 40s (close to my age today) who had numbers tattooed on their arms. Holocaust survivors. They were young and vibrant. I remember that. And by that time, their trauma had been recognized by much of the world. It didn’t change their pain and the nightmares of their lived experiences but also they knew that their suffering had been acknowledged. That matters.
Germany is an imperfect country. I know. I lived there. But the average German knows and understands the details and legacy of the mass murder and persecution their forbears committed. German schoolchildren visit the remains of death camps. There are monuments to the murdered Jews of Europe across the country. There are national days of mourning. You’d be hard pressed to find a public monument to any Nazi. In fact you won’t because they are not allowed.
Now imagine in the US, we have monuments to men who fought a war to preserve the institutionalized terrorization and enslavement of African Americans. Every day, millions of African Americans in cities throughout the US pass those statues. It’s not just a reminder of their oppression. But a reminder of their country’s failure to reckon with the past.
In Germany, there are still racist and anti-Semitic people. That exists around the world. No society is immune. But expressing pro-Nazi views or denying the cruelty of their Nazi past is culturally unacceptable—and in some cases, illegal. It means that—as a general rule—German society has been able to develop into a healthier and more just society.
Does every German like it? No. There are plenty who bitterly resent the fact that their national institutions memorialize the murdered Jews of Europe. But they are a distinct minority of people whose voices are roundly condemned and quashed. Because Germany knows that hatred—at the end of the day—is self corroding. It is bad for Germany.
Most schoolchildren in the United States still do not learn that “plantations” were concentration camps where terror, rape, assault and brutal family separation took place. They do not learn about the generations of families ripped apart at the snap of a finger. Or the immense wealth that was created and passed on (to this day) by people who benefited from the free labor of enslaved humans. And that for more than 100 years after the civil war, African Americans continued to be terrorized by the state apparatus.
I believe if more white Americans understood these and so many other horrors of the black experience in America—and truly committed ourselves to a reckoning—with both real and symbolic reparations—our country would become stronger, more just, healthier and prouder.

A Not-So-Happy 4th of July

Displaying a U.S. flag upside down is, among other things, a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life.

No Mr. Trump, the virus is not under control. It is in control.

No parades, no concert on the Esplanade, no gathering together with our fellow Bostonians for cookouts with family and friends to celebrate this historic date in The Cradle of Liberty.

The Covid-19 itself is not Trump's fault. But his inept, incompetent, and grossly reckless handling of the pandemic is his fault.

The disregard of hundreds of thousands of lost American lives is his fault. All Trump wanted to see was the economy improve by opening up the states, regardless of dire warnings by epidemiologists who said it was too soon.

Now this is where we are, as of 6/25/2020, (as of Thursday, there were 50,000 new cases in the US. We've exceeded the June 25 count):

****************************

"The reality is that the virus is not under control; it is in control. Record-shattering numbers of new cases were reported Wednesday in six states: California, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Arizona and Alaska. New daily cases are increasing in 41 states compared to two weeks ago. Outbreaks and superspreader events are erupting, such as clusters from Myrtle Beach, S.C. In five months, the pandemic has killed nearly 19 times as many Americans as have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Trump — whose early reaction to the pandemic was to wish it away, who failed to muster the logistical support to confront it and who then decided to walk away by leaving the response largely to the states — this week continued to engage in magical thinking, referring to the raging pandemic as “certain hot spots.” In fact, states that opened up prematurely in May are paying the price now, and Mr. Trump bears responsibility for encouraging governors to loosen the restrictions too early. It was a bad miscalculation."

So it is difficult for me to be optimistic and happy on this particular 4th of July at this time in my life.

We've had no leadership, only a reckless man undermining the science that showed us how to contain the spread of this virus. Trump refuses to wear a mask because it makes him look unmanly.

Not wearing a mask during a lethal pandemic actually makes him look like a hopeless moron.

Trump believes that is we do fewer tests, there'll be fewer case of Covid-19 (he actually doesn't know what the "19" attached to "Covid" means.) He uses racist language to describe the virus (Kung flu, China virus), that's all he has to offer the American people: stupidity, anti-science, and racism.

And this 4th of July he'll be in South Dakota at Mt. Rushmore where the foolhardy governor of that state proudly proclaims there'll be no mask-wearing and no social distancing.

We have no leadership, no common sense, no plan for getting this plague under control. And now Covid-19 is IN control.

I don't understand the people who still support this maniac, but I do pity them and feel nothing but contempt for their allegiance to a POTUS who cares nothing for America or the American people.
