"Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!" Trump tweeted shortly before 1 am Friday.
The President had said earlier in the night that he planned to quarantine.
"Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!" Trump tweeted Thursday night.
I don't know what to make of this. Trump has lied so often about so many things, I'm not sure I can believe this -- yet.
If it's true, I'd ask him how he could possibly have Covid-19, since he called it a Democratic HOAX.
And he mocked people who wore masks. A practice that his own CDC head said was the most effective way of preventing the spread of or catching Covid-19.
No one would wish this virus on anyone, but we can be sure that the POTUS and FLOTUS will receive the best care.
Perhaps Trump won't be so quick to mock those who wear masks to protect themselves, and finally understand how dangerous this virus truly is. But, I'm not counting on it.
Just now, this is all I can think of:

So Trump went to a rally yesterday knowing he had been exposed to covid 19 and deliberately exposed other people?
Not at all suprized. Ignore the science... tempt fate. Exactly what trump has been doing. AND, he has, by his own behavior exposed others even as he knew Hicks infectious state and his close contact to her. Irresponsiblity On Parade.
I have no sympathy for trump.
Yeah, I don't know if I believe it. What about the hydroxychloroquine he was supposedly taking. Should have kept taking it. Unless he's going to "get over it" easily. Thus proving it's not a big deal. Maybe he's going to fake his death and flee to Russia to avoid prosecution.
I’m just waiting for him to blame the Democrats for he and Melania getting Covid19. It is all part of Biden’s plan to steal the election from him.
We all wish the president and his family well.
The problem here is two fold. All of America, per CDC guidelines is being urged to follow safe guidelines, frequent hand washing, safe distance from people and of course, wearing a mask.
On Tuesday before the debate, the president's family and his aides entered the debate hall in Cleveland with masks on. Once pictures were taken, those masks were then taken off. The debate was at a medical center. Before the debate began, the Trump family members, all sitting together, without masks which were required by the venue, were asked by a medical doctor and official to please put their masks on.
The Trump family refused.
Then in the debate, the president made fun of Joe Biden for wearing masks "all the time."
That was Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Hope Hicks, a close aide of Trump, started showing symptoms. She accompanied the President to a fund raising event in Minnesota. We're they wearing masks? Doubtful.
On Thursday morning, Hicks tested positive. And everyone knew it. The White House announced it. It was all over the news. But our president, knowing his close aide was indeed positive for Covid, and that he had been around her, went ahead with his scheduled fundraiser that night. Without, it was reported, masks.
The White House Press Secretary also held an indoor press conference during these days, knowing she had been exposed and that Hicks had tested positive. Without a mask, endangering everyone in that room.
I wish the president well. I really do. But President Trump, his family and his staff, throughout these last few days, acted irresponsibly. The knowingly put other Americans at risk. They knowingly violated their own CDC recommendations for how to safely and responsibly behave in the era of the Coronavirus. The era of a pandemic.
At the most charitable reading of the above timeline, on Thursday night, an American president and his family and staff, knowingly risked the lives of a group of citizens for the sake of his campaign. I guess they just didn't care.
Now we will see of the White House can provide real leadership... here's are the guidelines put out by the CDC, part of the Trump Administration, and we assume their best practices if you are exposed.
If...
You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more
You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19
You had direct physical contact with the person (hugged or kissed them)
You shared eating or drinking utensils
They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you
You Should...
Stay home and monitor your health
Stay home for 14 days after your last contact with a person who has COVID-19
Those guidelines would include the POTUS Chief of Staff, the Trump family, the Press Secretary and any number of other White House officials.
Now is the time for the WH to lean into the guidelines, show leadership and model to the American people, proper behavior in this era of Covid.
Jerry... he's blaming the military. As he gets in his car to get to Walter Reed.
Stop for a moment and think about that...
The president of the US is on his way to the hospital to be treated for deadly virus that has so far killed over 200,000 Americans.
This is a horrible day for our country. Totally predictable, given the president's behavior, but jarring nonetheless.
Dave I could have written everything you wrote. I don’t wish the virus on anyone. That said, Trump ignored his own CDC’s guidelines for keeping safe. He even mocked Biden for wearing masks, as do his cultists. Trumps reckless behavior led to his own infection, there’s no question.
Is this finally what will make him and his family and supporters take this virus seriously?
Trump is now at Walter Reed. This doesn’t look good.
He and his own White House put themselves at risk. And look where we are.
It was at this time of year in 2016 when Hillary Clinton was diagnosed with pneumonia. What did trump do? Mocked her and said she was weak. Contrast that to today—Joe Biden has put out a statement wishing trump and his wife a speedy recovery and have pulled all their negative campaign ads off the air.
possumldy, the fact is that Trump is where he is because of his own reckless behavior that he flaunted in front of his cultists at his rallies. All the people around him refuse to wear masks and practice social distancing. He and his aides refused to wear masks as required by the Cleveland Clinic at Tuesday's debate. He's reckless and cares nothing for other people's safety. We learned that when we heard the tapes from Woodward's book.
Trump knew how lethal this virus is and he disregarded the guidelines of his own CDC about protecting himself and others.
I just heard that his situation has gone from "mild" to "moderate," and that his fever is high.
Trump did this to himself, and the people around him who should have known better are his accomplices.
No one wishes this virus on anyone. Too bad Trump didn't believe in science.
"It is what it is." --Trump
Possum... exactly right on your HRC comment.
There's a whole class of bloggers calling on Biden to suspend his campaign while the pres recovers. Why? Did he do that for Hillary? Of course not. Did they show concern for her? Not at all, choosing instead to mock her.
Donald Trump and his supporters, have no desire to be treated as Trump treats others. Pure and simple, they are political snowflakes. Two faced inconsistent snowflakes.
Let's also add this... Joe Biden was not notified personally by the President, or anyone in the White House about the fact that he was exposed to the virus by Trump, his family and staff.
A simple act of caring for another person was just too much not just for Trump, of whom we really expect nothing, but from no one on his staff either.
Instead, rather that give Biden a heads up, Trump and the White House let the Biden campaign find out like all of us did, through the media. Should we have expected anything different from someone who fires ppl by tweet.
Such a classy guy.
I don't wish Dotard well. btw, China is to blame. Obviously they forced Dotard to hold indoor rallies and not wear a mask.
Fox News: Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler says China is to blame for President Trump and first lady Melania Trump contracting COVID-19. "Remember: China gave this virus to our President @realDonaldTrump and First Lady FLOTUS". Loeffler, a Republican vying to keep the seat to which she was appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp, tweeted on Friday. "WE MUST HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE". [end]
Idiot.
I think Trump should get the same amount of empathy that he gave Hillary during the 2016 campaign. Trump mocked Hillary and called her weak.
Karma’s a bitch.
To Quote Dan Bongino;
·It’s Sunday, October 4th 2020, and Barack Obama was Still the most corrupt President in US history.
Suzanne must be off her meds again. Another unsupported comment.
To "Suzanne," Trump Cultist extraordinaire,
Anyone with a function brain stem would ask the "Suzanne" troll about the indictments and jail time for Mr. Obama and his administration.
Since it's obvious "Suzanne" doesn't have a functioning brain stem, we'll forego that simple question and send "her" this:
"Recent administrations with the MOST criminal indictments:
Trump (Republican) — 215
Nixon (Republican) — 76
Reagan (Republican) — 26
"Recent administrations with the LEAST criminal indictments:
Obama (Democrat) — 0
Carter (Democrat) — 1
Clinton (Democrat) — 2
"Notice a pattern?"
Poor trolly "Suzanne." Perhaps "she" should request a brain stem transplant?
Dave, it's a curious reaction from Trump cultists. The more evidence of Trump's incompetence, stupidity, and recklessness, the more they fall back on that lie about President Obama.
Simple facts elude them completely. Not one member of the Obama administration in eight years was indicted or went to jail (unlike the dozens from Trump, and that was in just 3 years!)
This FACT does not penetrate their thick skulls because, as I've noted for the last 5 years, Trump cultists don't deal in facts or reality. If they did, they'd have run for their lives away from the obvious liar, cheat, and fraud.
They can't admit their horrible judgement that made this incompetent malignant narcissist president, so they dig in and stubbornly stick to their fantasyland idea of him.
I wonder how that will hold up now that his recklessness got him Covid-19.
The whole of trumlandia ought to request brain stem cell transplants.
It isn't often that schaudenfreude and karma roost together.
I've grown to recognize that those of whom you refer lack basic cognition and are unable to grasp reality if it collides with their delusions. trump is not stupid, but he is the planet's most effective con man and he has played to the inner most fears of a large and very frightened group of very small people.
RN. I wouldn’t call Trump smart, though. He ignored medical science during a lethal pandemic and just about begged the virus to infect him, his wife, and many in his administration by his reckless disregard of common sense protections against catching Covid-19.
His stupid joy ride on Sunday again endangered the lives of other people, just like he endangered the lives of those who work in his administration and America by not taking this pandemic seriously.
He is not a leader that leads by example. Biden is.
He also doez not care about anyone or their family. Biden does.
He is an example of a purdly selfish narcissist that has zero empathy for others. Biden is not and Biden does.
trump is not stupid. But I've never saw him as ANYTHING but very average, very plastic, and very self absorbed.
I don't know how bad the late 1940's and erly 1950's McCarthy era was but it couldn't possibly have been any worse than the trump era.
