The Trumpublican politicians are concerned about what's going on at the border.
They ignore what's going on within it.
Nazis in New York City, 1939:
Trump supporters in Youngstown, Ohio, this past weekend, 2022:
It's increasingly impossible to ignore the symbolism or to believe it's unintentional.
We are at a turning point in history, and we have to be willing to call out this propaganda and acts of fascism for what it is.
We have to be bold and speak out.
We cannot be silent.
Our democracy demands it.

If you watched any of that rally with Trump's sing-song address being given with a QAnonish soundtrack backing him, you'd be even more alarmed. Because his words did not tar and feather some Democrats, liberals or progressives. They tarred everyone who dares disagree with him and his POV.
And the people there lapped it up, as did this supporter who writes today...
"Since then [President Reagan's term] we’ve had Libido Bill and Harridan Hillary luxuriating in the glow and comfort of unrestricted power paid for by others, then Bush II, who should’ve stayed on his Texas ranch and painted simple watercolors of cockapoos, and the halfrican, [Obama?] who had as much business in D.C. as I have in the Vatican."
Is "halfrican" a racist, or racially insensitive term? You be the judge, but if it is, is it fair to consider someone using that term racist? And then if it is, would it be fair to characterize ppl who remain silent in the face of its use to also be racist or at best, racially insensitive?
Because everyone who is allowed to comment where the term "halfrican" was used, would gladly lift their arms in support of DJT, just like those pictured in Shaw's post.
I've been comparing the rise of American fascism to the rise of German fascism for years.
I was met with, "You can't compare Republicans to Nazis! What about the camps?"
Yes, I can. Equating Republicans with Nazis isn't valid... yet. But comparing them is vital for comprehending the seriousness of the real threat they pose.
There were no camps during the rise of the Nazis. The camps came AFTER they took power.
The Party of Trump and Nazis share the same ideology; resentment for democracy, scapegoating the left and minorities, and white nationalist racism.
Trump and Hitler will both be known for their violent bloody coups. Trump's 1/6 putsch and Hitler's "Beer Hall Putsch" of 1923 put them in the same classification as violent fascists.
Why the hell SHOULDN'T we compare them?
Loyalty to Trump is now the sole plank of the Republican Party platform. He is their supreme Fuhrer. We are on the precipice of losing what's left of our democracy.
Trump's fellow enemies of democracy are already declaring they will not accept an election if they lose. It will get ugly, no matter who wins the 2022 election.
We are at a turning pointIndeed.
We are now confronted with an opportunity to show what real true Americans are made of. And honestly, today, not sure America has the strength any longer to stand up AGAIN and defeat fascism.
We've become a nation in crises. Self perpetuated and self driven. When ignorance and greed take top billing as has happened in the USA the stage is set for asshat narcissists like trump to work their evil. trump knew what he was doing when he said he loved uneducated people. He knew he could manipulate them through his propaganda machines and fear. And so he did. And here we are.
In an ocean of shit that we ourselves are responsible for. Because, well, I don't know. I guess it's because real Americans never thought it could happen here... Neither did the good Germans.
They also show up with Nazi flags. I've seen them. Here's the thing --if you're at a rally and there are Nazi flags and the folks with those flags are not ejected, you're at a Nazi rally.
Are they saying we are number one because that doesn't look like a salute to me. We need to ban these hand motions at football games because it makes the fans look like nazi's.
I am just glad the pandemic is finally over so we can have crowds again. That and combined with no inflation will free up Americans to spend all their new found wealth from their pay increases. I also saw where the border crossers are finding jobs in DC and Chicago so busing them north is a great idea. I haven't read how the crossers flown to various cities on one of the 900 federal flights are doing, I think they are called ghost flights because they are carried out at night so no one knows. I'm sure someone on the board knows.
skud's willful misunderstanding of facts presented to them isn't totally their fault.
I am reminded of the picture of a cylinder lit from two different sources. Depending on the angle of the light one sees either the shadow of a circle or a rectangle with both shadows correctly depicting the lit object.
skud looks at facts and based on their years of willful ignorance sees only what they want to see. After all, in skud's world all is shadows.
It's the rest of us that have to deal with the unflinching glare of reality.
Shaw, you are not alone.
While flying through the polluted air known as Twitter I viewed many messages echoing your sentiment. Many humans took an extra step to compare the mesmerized Trumpies with the followers of Jim Jones.
These Trumpies will acknowledge no facts presented to them unless presented by their voices of authority. Having been in a cult the only way they escape now is if they want to escape. And I didn't 'want' to escape for over eight years.
I have sympathy for the Trumpies families because these humans are lost. They are cannon fodder and will fight to their dying breath any facts that their dear leader is not only grifting them but would gleefully yeet them into harms way if it gained him one penny.
In our time the Nazis are back. Eisenhower was correct.
Of course busing them north is a good idea skud. It will enrich further the cultural diversity in the north and you southerners have less brown people in your states. Apparently a win-win. Although I expect the ultimate looses will be the south.
I suspect the 1 salute is to signify their Exalted Fuhrer tRump is the true leader of the Nazi party in America. IEL: Hitler's spawn here to save the USA from the evils of Democracy and our democratic republic. Did I mention to save us from diversity?
Skud... hardly... I saw the tape of the rally.

Poor excuse, skud. The things that AREN'T at football games or any sports games afaik are NAZI flags, which are found at Trump rallies!
Nazi flags along with quasi-Nazi salutes at Trump rallies should shame every American.
Men and women fought and died fighting the Nazis, and the Trumpers proudly display the symbols of the enemy in WWII who fought and killed American men and women.
Making an excuse for that and trying to downplay the shameful displaying of what was America's enemy in WWII is not a good look for anyone, especially anyone who loves this country.
"The display bore an uncanny resemblance to the infamous Nazi salute. The delusional incitement and zombie-like response should put to rest the notion that President Biden (or anyone) should be “reaching out” to these people. They are unreachable, and pretending otherwise misleads voters.
No Republican should ever escape an interview or news conference without being asked to condemn this monstrous event. The cynical GOP leaders who know that Trump is unfit for office and that many of his cult followers have become violent should not be treated as ordinary party hacks. They are enablers of a dangerous movement. Yet they continually evade persistent, aggressive questioning."

If this were a foreign country, the media would accurately describe the MAGA movement as a far-right cult. Yet in the United States, too many reporters cannot help themselves in normalizing the movement.
It is astounding to me that ANYONE could dismiss the quasi-Nazi symbolism being put on display at Trump rallies.
What has the former Republican Party become????
The bolded quote above was from Conservative writer Jennifer Rubin of the WaPo.
A REAL Conservative, not someone who thinks it's cute to mimic Nazis and pretend it isn't wicked and unAmerican!
Desantis and Abbott are just following the nice guys preaching. They are sharing the wealth. This is truly disgusting to ship these border crossers off to the north but how else are this issues at the border going to be addressed. The leftist media gave it no coverage. the administration said there was no problem and the person in charge of the border has never visited. Tell me Les how else does it get attention after almost two years and 2 million crosser's.
The places like Chicago, DC and NYC now call it a crisis but before they didn't even acknowledge there were people crossing the border. MV is an elitist millionaire's area who is showing their prejudices by stating the crossers are welcome just not here.
Ms. Shaw, I don't pay any attention to trump or what he is doing because I agree the maga movement is a far-right cult and I have no use for them. The extremes on both sides do not represent the majority which are in the middle of their party.
Well maybe skud and his pals at the Trumper blogs don't care if democracy is dying in America under MAGA and maybe him and his pals think seeing Nazi salutes and flags at MAGA rallies is harmless but I don't. Did he forget who we fought in WW II? Did he forget what the Nazis did to 6 million Jews and other people the Nazis murdered?
I don't have an answer on how to wake up America to these very real and credible threats to democracy. Ken Burns has a program on PBS now on the U.S. and the Holocaust and even I can't stand to watch for more than 10-15 minutes. The parallels to what is happening now are downright scary and watching this before going to bed at night does not help my insomnia.
Yet, if I dare mention any kind of concern to an older Republican sister of mine, she thinks the media constantly over dramatizes everything and there is nothing to worry about.
skud: "MV is an elitist millionaire's area who is showing their prejudices by stating the crossers are welcome just not here."
Excuse me, skud, but you don't know what you're talking about. Lots of richy rich folks have homes on Martha's Vineyard, but MV is NOT elitist. When the richy rich people leave the island after September, the normal, work-a-day folks who live there year round stay and run the place.
And MV is diverse. The black population jumped 67%, from 477 people in 2010 to 798 people in 2020, outpacing white population growth threefold.
Latino & American Indian population increases also outpaced white population growth in 2020.
The state of Maine hosts some of the most wealthy summer people who come and stay along the coast every summer -- like the Bush family in Kennebunkport did for years. Maine is not a rich state and it has a small population for its size. It is the poorest of the New England states, but just because wealthy people choose it for a vaca spot, that doesn't make the state ELITIST.
The people who summer in MV may be the elite, but that doesn't mean all the folks who live there year round are elite.
You're just parroting right-wing talking points. Give me some credit for knowing a bit more about MV than you do. Thanks.

REPUBLICANS blocked immigration reform
Anon, I will assume you are correct but when you have two different democrat presidents who control all three branches and still do nothing you have to assume they don't want to have immigration reform. W proposed immigration reform and it was voted down by republicans. The swell guy did DACA which was temporary and didn't try to get reform permanent, why is that. Neither side wants immigration reform because it is better to blame the other than do anything.
Ms Shaw, Your definition of privileged is astounding. MV is just another middle class community that a few wealthy people visit once in awhile. Average income $77000 and having 50 border crossers come to town is horrific. The average income for residents of Eagle Pass is $46,000 and they are expected to have 2 million border crossers. Your right those poor people in MV are not privileged at all. I don't understand what Maine has to do with MV and you know statistics are funny things.
Possumlady, I said almost exactly the same words you wrote here to my family after watching the first installment of the Ken Burns series on the Holocaust.
How can we NOT see the parallels? The raised arm salute! The Nazi flags for sale at Trump rallies! The rallies themselves! Trump never talks about policy; he feeds his cultists grievances, lies, demonization of liberals, paranoia about the "Deep State," and promises of taking revenge on all HIS enemies, -- just like, well you know who did at his Nuremberg rallies.
Even though this post is about the Nazification of the former Republican Party, I thought I'd post this for skud and for anyone who doesn't understand this:
Joe Walsh

This needs to be said again: There are people every day who sneak across the border and enter this country illegally. But people seeking asylum are NOT entering this country illegally. And those people DeSantis put on a plane were seeking asylum. They were NOT here illegally.
Skud sure whistles Dixie nicely.
HRC was right, as much as it pains me to say so. Trumpers are deplorable as well as unreachable. Perfect cultists they are.
To repeat: THEY WERE NOT HERE ILLEGALLY.
And DeSantis illegally sent them to MV under FALSE pretenses.
He is now under criminal investigation and is also being sued by the asylum seekers he sent to MV.
He got himself into a lotta BAD trouble.
As he should have based solely on his illegal activity. Why should anyone be surprised. He takes his guidance from his cult leader, DJT.
I do not refer to them as illegal anymore because you are correct they are crossers. They have every right to go where they choose even if it is MV or NYC. I don't see why a poor border town should be expected to have all of them.
Whenever you have to invoke Naziism you have lost the argument.
Anonymous is invoking "Godwin's Law".
Mike Godwin updated it. Now he says this:
"I came up with Godwin’s Law. In its original form, Godwin’s Law goes like this: “As an online discussion continues, the probability of a reference or comparison to Hitler or Nazis approaches 1.”
First, let me get this Donald Trump issue out of the way: If you’re thoughtful about it and show some real awareness of history, go ahead and refer to Hitler or Nazis when you talk about Trump. Or any other politician."
Fascist racists beg comparisons to other fascist racists, or we legitimize them.
Thank you Dave. Point well made.
