Jack Smith: Today an indictment was unsealed accusing Donald J Trump with conspiring to defraud voters ...I encourage everyone to read it in full. The attack on our Capitol on Jan 6 was an unprecedented asault on the seat of our government fueled by deceit and lies...men and women who defended Capitol are heroes

"Jack Smith, the special counsel who brought the case, charged Mr. Trump with one of the most sensational frauds in the history of the United States, one “fueled by lies” and animated by the basest of motives, the thirst for power. In a 45-page, four-count indictment, Mr. Smith dispensed with the notion that Mr. Trump believed his claims of election fraud. “The defendant knew that they were false,” it said, and made them anyway to “create an intense national atmosphere of mistrust and anger and erode public faith in the administration of the election.”

The elements of the alleged conspiracy laid out in the indictment were for the most part well known since the congressional inquiry into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol wrapped up seven months ago — and many of them long before that. In that sense, the unsealing of the document had a bizarrely anti-climactic feel to it, given the stakes."

But the GOPers are referring to the Bidens as a "crime syndicate?"

We're living through a sickness in this country where what we thought were our fellow Americans, are, in fact, irrational cultists supporting the most corrupt and malevolent person ever to defile the Oval Office.

He is a stain on our republic that may infect and dishonor America for generations to come.

We owe Jack Smith a debt of gratitude for the patriotic work he's done.

From an email sent to me by a reader of this blog:

"My thought at this juncture is that Trump should be denied bail when he is arraigned this Thursday.

No defendant in any criminal case would ever be permitted to abuse the justice system in the way that he has, and clearly will, if he has access to the microphone. Absolutely no criminal defendant would ever be allowed to assail the prosecutors, courts, or the justice system as a whole in any criminal case, and no exceptions should be made for Trump anymore, who is out to make it impossible to try him under due process.

This is not a political matter, but it sure is one of national safety. This man is determined to foment violence and do this country serious harm if he is at large over the next year while these cases are pending.

It should also be pointed out that we are no longer looking at a presidential candidate, but a man bent upon using an election to avoid prosecution for a list of crimes which is very real and significant, and is still growing.

Of course, that won't happen.

Trump will be allowed to go free and poison America with his self-centered invective. I fear what we are seeing here is a full frontal assault on the Rule of Law and Democracy.

And nobody has the guts to pull the plug before we drown in it."

The living example of pure evil is, Donald J. Trump. A huge cockroach that will never go away until the seething slime is squashed and rendered inoperable sitting in a federal penitentiary. Where he can whine day and night and NOBODY has to listen to or read about his narcissitic lying a** ever again.

But your friend is probably right. The cockroach Trump will likely skate. For nearly half of Americans the cockroach is a rock star. And THAT gives him the cover and protection he wants. Simply put the fear of the violence he'll unleash will paralyze the justice system and the cockroach will be free to continue his destructive romp across America.

These people exist:

From a far-right anti-American blogger:

"It’s Day 993 of the coup, the theft of the American Government, by enemies both foreign and domestic.

(Read in your best stentorian tone) OH! I pulled a Biden and read the prompt out loud!
There is a war going on for control of America. And you.

This country was founded on the notion of individual liberty and the freedoms given to us by God, or as the Founders put it: The Creator, or Providence.

We have a government in Washington that is going to extraordinary lengths to prosecute anyone it disagrees with or fears. Donald Trump is on that list. The January 6th Patriots are on that list. You are on that list.

We have a government in Lansing that is going to extraordinary lengths to prosecute anyone it disagrees with or fears.

The 2016 Trump Alternate Electors are on that list. You are on that list.

The left has become the fascists they used to speak out against.

What is to be our response? We resist. We protest. We broadcast. We boycott, We Buycott. We go to court. We vote whether they cheat or not. We warn our fellow citizens.

And we pray.

They have a Justice Department. We have a God.

Psalm 144 says Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle.

Please clasp your hands and your fingers. Let’s pray, Let’s go to war.

Father, please lead us and guide us as we seek to obtain the Liberty of that you have provided us in Natural Law, and to restore this Nation that you have had a heavy Hand in the establishment of.
Please help us to restore this nation to a Constitutional Republic and remove the illegal overreach of those that would oppress us. Amen"

Imagine dragging anyone's god into that vat of poisonous lies. People actually listen to this nut and think he's a "man of faith." That's rich. A liar as a man of faith!

And of course he's got GOD on his side! LOL!!!!!!!

"From time to time, America faces threats from monsters who want to destroy our democracy...What we see in this indictment is on Jan. 6, 2021, Trump tried to destroy our system, to take away our rule of law...It almost happened." --@Beschloss, Historian

Also, Ray. That guy you quoted in the comment @9:44 AM is a "true believer." He is impervious to facts and truth, like all true believers. Don't waste your time trying to show him how crazy wrong he is. He's in a cult! Cultists don't know they're in a cult!

The reaction from Republicans to the latest Trump indictment shows how truly broken and morally bankrupt the party has become. The sycophants bleat and those who agree with it remain silent for fear of retribution. What a sad state of affairs.

Here's what is scary.

Our favorite crowd on the HMS Mothership of Denial is made up of at least 4 current or former teachers, educators of kids in America.

And as the indictment against Trump was unsealed, they are all screaming, as Ed from Ray's comment above does, about Americans losing their right to free speech. Their argument is BS... As NY Rep points out, no one gets indicted for what they say. You get indicted for actions taken in service to what you say if, and this is key, those actions are illegal.

Raskin goes on... “you can say whatever you want, but the minute you actually try to obstruct the meeting of Congress, you’ve crossed over from speech to conduct.”

Even Smith in his indictment says it is not the speech, but the actions taken to disrupt Congress in service to that speech, that is the basis for the indictment.

Now I get it, Trump and his defenders are going to argue that the election was stolen. Just read this passage from one sailor... "Proving that he never truly believed the election was fair and valid should be a snap, given the frequency and vigor of his rhetoric at rallies and interviews. In fact, if handled correctly, his court appearances might very well work to prove exactly what he’s been saying – that the election was stolen, deliberately, by the Biden syndicate. How else could a guy get more votes than anyone else in history without ever leaving his basement?"

Man, won't we love to see trump in the dock? But we won't. Because Trump cannot under any circumstances be allowed by his lawyers to testify. Because they know he will lie his butt off and kill their case.

But let's just think about all this for a moment... this Trump did not know he was spewing untruthful BS stuff...

That means they are supporting perhaps the single dumbest president we've ever had.

Because in spite of a total lack of evidence, over 60 judicial attempts, numerous recounts, audits and more, not a single shred of real evidence has been shown by the Trump team to back up that assertion. Even Rudy has admitted, in court where the truth matters, that the Trump team has no evidence of what they are alleging.

And again, teachers, supposedly the adults in the room, are pushing these lies. Because the truth is too difficult for them to grasp...

That former President Donald Trump is a serial liar, a grifter, has no respect for the Constitution, cheated on his wife with a porn star, refuses to pay his bills, is raising money for a political campaign and is spending all the money on his personal legal fees, never cut the deficit, never got a dime from Mexico for the wall he never built, admitted to fraud in the case against his non profit and has used the bankruptcy laws to avoid paying his bills over and over again.

And, in spite of what he said, he does not hire the "best" people, never gave us that great health plan that was coming in a couple of weeks, never delivered on his infrastructure week and presided over the most criminal administration in the history of the United States of America.

"That former President Donald Trump is a serial liar, a grifter, has no respect for the Constitution, cheated on his wife with a porn star, refuses to pay his bills, is raising money for a political campaign and is spending all the money on his personal legal fees..."

You left this out. And his supporters never mention this, which IMO is appalling and more evidence of their inability to face the reality of what Trump is:

"Judge Lewis Kaplan called Trump’s semantic argument “entirely unpersuasive.” He clarified that the jury found that the former president did indeed “rape” Carroll based on the common definition of the word."

And there's this:

Trump indicted 3X
His campaign chair: felon
Deputy campaign chair: felon
Personal lawyer: felon
Chief strategist: felon
Nat'l. Security advisor: felon
Foreign policy advisor: felon
Campaign fixer: felon
Company CFO: felon

And yet our friend, skudrunner, and many people like him will say with a straight face that it is the Bidens that are a crime syndicate. Meanwhile, as of now, NOT ONE BIDEN HAS BEEN INDICTED FOR ANYTHING.

I say this every day when I read stuff like that from otherwise normal people, like skud, and hear about it being said on the Mother Ship blog. I've said this before, that there's some sort of sickness that's got hold of millions and millions of Americans, and it manifests itself in those people's willful disregard for facts, evidence, and truth.

That goes for the guy Ed that Ray posted as well. It's madness; it's a national sickness. And I'm overwhelmed with sadness that it is happening to the country I love.

I hate to say this, but I remember who started this mistrust of government: The guy who said that government isn't the solution to our problems; it IS the problem. Trump is just a continuation and a monstrous mutation of that sentiment.

It is healthy to question what the government says and does, but that doesn't mean to believe EVERYTHING the government does is "deep state," sinister, and malevolent. I know libertarians would like the least or even NO government. Imagine that for a country that is the 3rd most populace in the world! It's insane.

What is sad Dave is that you felt the need to point out the things most semi educated people realized before they were 15.

Nothing is going to unclog the plugged ego driven minds of the trumpian cultist. They are completely out of touch with any semblance of reality.

Yeah, third most populated country on the planet as well as the most weaponized. Over 320 million firearms in civilian hands. Not to mention the mighty military and its nuclear weapons stockpile. And we must not forget our militarized and weapnized police forces acroaa the land.

Yup, just what the big L libertarians of America would like to gain control of.

"The indictment cites several phone calls between Trump and Pence in late December 2020 and early January 2021 in which Trump allegedly made "knowingly false" claims about the election and pressured his vice president to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden's victory. Pence recounted some of these conversations in his memoir, "So Help Me God."

According to Smith, Pence called Trump on Dec. 25, 2020, to wish him a Merry Christmas but Trump "quickly turned the conversation to January 6 and his request that the Vice President reject electoral votes that day." Pence pushed back, asserting that he lacked the authority to change the election outcome.

Four days later, Trump allegedly told Pence that law enforcement had discovered evidence of illegal activity in the election. Pence's notes state that Trump said the "Justice Department [was] finding major infractions," a claim the special counsel calls false.

The indictment next recounts a New Year's Day meeting between Trump and his vice president, which Pence wrote about in his memoir. Pence said Trump discussed a lawsuit filed by Republicans that asked a judge to declare the vice president had "exclusive authority and sole discretion to decide which electoral votes should count." Pence said he reiterated to Trump "that I didn't believe I possessed that power under the Constitution."

You're too honest," Trump replied, according to both Pence's book and the indictment. "Hundreds of thousands are gonna hate your guts… People are gonna think you're stupid." --Chris Pandolfo, Fox News

The Captain of the Mother Ship after learning that Pence took contemporaneous notes during Trump's attempts to make him break Constitutional law:

"aaaannnd, Pence loses ANY voter who was tired of Trump’s personality and the legal problems and had considered voting for Pence…..

Good job, Pence. You deserve no votes."

This is what I mean by feeling utter despair over the sickness that's taken hold of the deluded Trump cultists.

This woman states Pence DESERVES TO LOSE VOTERS BECAUSE HE FOLLOWED THE LAW AND DID NOT CONSPIRE WITH TRUMP TO OVERTURN AN AMERICAN ELECTION.

This woman is through with Pence because he refused to break the law and illegally install Trump in the presidency for another 4 years.

This woman and her pals truly believe they are freedom loving American patriots while at the same time denigrating Pence for not betraying his oath of office and his allegiance to the rule of law.

It is a perfect picture of what Trump and his corruption has done to weak-minded Americans.

He knows very well how to play his marks.
