MORE ON BUFFOON LIMBAUGH

“Rush Limbaugh’s comparison of the Democratic Party to the Nazi Party in World War II is as disgusting as it is shocking,"

"Limbaugh’s use of the Nazi swastika in attempting to make a tasteless political comparison has no place in the public discourse."

"As a Democrat who founded the Institute on the Holocaust and the Law, I have a lesson for Rush Limbaugh.

Today, there are survivors of the Holocaust with tattoos stenciled on their arms who are registered Democrats.

And he's treated them with vile contempt. Limbaugh has the right to be the buffoon that he is. He has no right to compare any Americans to Nazis who exterminated 6 million Jews.

I know he won't apologize. I do expect my Republican colleagues to denounce his comments.

The Holocaust taught us that silence in the face of evil expression becomes acquiescence to evil. And what Limbaugh said is pure evil."
Good luck, conservatives, with your hero!

Geez, Shaw, why not rename the blog "I hate Rush Limbaugh"?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Oh Gordon, I don't hate him. I just want to keep his idiocy up there for everyone to see.

He speakes to millions and millions of his dittoheads every day. I believe we, who do not want to soil our pristine frontal lobes with his blather, should at least give our side a chance to read the ugly hysteria he serves up on a daily basis.

Plus, it's fun to make fun of such a *cough* LARGE *cough* target.

C'mon, Gordon. You'd do it too if the Left had a radio talk show host as famous and widely listened to as that swag-bellied puttock.

PS. No margaritas tonight. But I did enjoy a perky little Pouilly-Fuissé with a superb, perfectly poached fillet of halibut and some homemade pomme frites. Sliced heirloom tomatoes on the side with a chiffonade of fresh basil.

Aaaah, that's the life.

Forget politics.

dmarks said...

Gordon: Limbaugh can make a lot of sense when he talks about the American spirit, and how freedom is better than fascism. But way too often, he gets into gaffes and silliness such as this. I do not mind Shaw pointing out the gaffes.

It was bad when Pelosi played the Godwin card, as discussed in a recent item on this blog. It is just as bad when Limbaugh does it.

Pelosi and Limbaugh both have "He has no right to compare any Americans to Nazis who exterminated 6 million Jews."

(But I do wonder if Rep. Israel also lit into Pelosi for her stupid Nazi comment. If he holds history as being more important than partisan politics, he would have. If he gave Pelosi a free pass, then he is in the same leage as Pelosi and Limbaugh in supporting such ridiculous comparisons to Nazis).

Gordon Scott said...

No politics, that's the ticket.

I had cheap pizza from Little Caesar's and water with ice. My wife mixed up the Bloody Mary To Go.

We spent the evening cooking, strangely enough. She's going to a festival for the next eight days, and she's volunteered to cook for the two main organizers. I guess they forget to eat, because they're so busy.

We made chili with pulled pork, bean dip with pulled pork, and marinara with zucchini, yellow squash and mushrooms. All of it went into Ziploc bags, to be served at the campsite.

Oh, and if I wanted to blog about the leading lefty talk show host, I certainly could. I know Eddie--quite well actually. I knew him when he was a right-wing host. And I know lots and lots of interesting stories about Ed and his exploits.

Outside of his opinion rants, he once ran the best local TV sports department in the country. Head and shoulders above anyone else, and I mean that in the best way. The folks that worked for him suffered, but they performed brilliantly under his lead.

Shaw, it seems Limbaugh also had a hand in inciting the mob violence in Tampa this evening. Earlier in the day, Limbaugh had featured the townhall on his radio broadcast. According to Media Matters' summary of today's broadcast, Limbaugh read a report that "Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) scheduled a 'last minute' town hall event."

Those hooligans were Limbaugh hooligans, and this debate has taken an ominous turn.

Gordon Scott said...

Octopus, how about you leave off the Obama talking points. According to the Tampa Tribune, your so-called mob violence was scuffles when the SEIU tried to shut the doors to keep out those opposed to the Democrat's plan.

By your standards, the SEIU and Democrat State Rep. Betty Reed incited the violence, since they informed people about the meeting.

Gordon: The SEIU is no stranger to thuggery and instigating violence.

Shaw Kenawe said...

From the Tampa Tribune:

Castor tried to speak for nearly 15minutes but the crowd drowned her out, chanting, "You work for us,'' "Tyranny, tyranny,'' and "Read the bill."

She ultimately left the meeting early, further angering some attendees.

One man who said he was injured and intended to file a police complaint, Randy Arthur of Oldsmar, was outside the meeting room with his wife, Kathy Arthur, when organizers tried to close the doors.

She said he was slammed against a wall. He later talked to police officers, his knit shirt ripped and a few scratches visible on his chest.

Reed said she set up the meeting because, "I represent a number of people who ask questions about what's going on with health care, so I thought it would be good to put on a meeting and have the congresswoman come in and give an update."

Reed said she was shocked by the number of people who turned out and some of their reactions.
"When you get to the point of possible violence, you've gone over the edge," she said.

This doesn't sound like a "scuffle" to me. When a group of hooigans scream and drown out a speaker with chants of "Tyranny! Tyranny!," you're talking about a deliberately organized disruption.

If it were Liberals organizing these mobs to shut down all discussions of health care, the Right would be popping-vein apoplectic and demanding that the speakers be heard.

It's curious how much mob violence and disruption the Right condones when it suits their agendas.

Welcome to 1930s Germany.

smackdaddy: this looks like a copy and paste job from an "Open Letter" newspaper column...can you paste in some specifics so everyone know what you are talking about and then show how it refers to the Limbaugh Buffoon topic?

Shaw Kenawe said...

JohnC,

I deleted smackdaddy's comment, since it had nothing to do with the post on Limbaugh and looked like mere cut and pasting.

Gordon Scott said...

1930's Germany? Well, you brought it up. Things at the town halls may have been loud and rowdy, but there wasn't any real problem until the progressive leader and his minions turned out their thugs to keep the citizens in line.

The SA weren't individual taxpayers wanting to tell their leaders what they thought. The SA was a regimented group of thugs who were used by their charismatic leader to intimidate and threaten opponents.

Note that all the stories of "violence" have one thing in common: SEIU bullies. 1930's Germany indeed.

Gordon Scott said...

Geez, Shaw. I finally went and looked at the transcript of Rush's broadcast and the artwork on his website. You're way off base here. He correctly pointed out that Nancy Pelosi was raving about swastikas at town hall meetings; no one else has seen them, but apparently Botox gives you special vision.

And the artwork comparison is apt. I've pointed out before that Obama has used Soviet Realism iconography during the campaign. It's no surprise that they've started imitating Nazi party designs as well. All three share a common theme: the state as religion.

Shaw Kenawe said...

All of you GOPers who come here daily are all absolutely correct.

The American people in November were bamboozled by a cryptic, Kenyan/Muslim whose sole purpose in running for president was to turn America into a Maxist/Socialist/Communist/Nazi/Fascist regime where he and his minions will implant plutonium in your dental fillings and extract all your personal information for the sole purpose of enriching themselves and turning you all into proles.

No matter what this president and his administration does, IT'S ALL EVIL AND YOU WANT YOUR COUNTRY BACK!!!

Now think about this--those same Americans who put Mr. Obama in office and were somehow tricked by the Devil Man into doing so, have, in 6 months, decided they were wrong?

If you truly believe that, then NOTHING the American people decide is to be trusted. Nothing.

I understand perfectly what is happening.

We saw how the Republicans worked diligently from the day Mr. Clinton was elected to deligitimize his presidency, and how the same thing is happening now to Mr. Obama.

The GOP and its loud-mouthed haranging water carriers believe they and only they can govern this country, even though all facts show the idiocy of allowing those incompetents to do so.

The worst financial meltdown happened during the last years of the GOP's glory days. Mr. Obama was left with a financial disaster, two wars and every other catastrophe one can think of and all the GOP has done in the last 6 months is try to deligitimize and undermine this president and his administration.

When the Left held peace marches during the run-up to the Iraq War, all we heard from the Right was that we were anti-American for not supporting Mr. Bush.

Here's the other foot and the shoe that' on it: The GOPers and their talk radio muttonheads are now the antiAmericans for trying to destroy this presidency as it tries to clean up the Herculean horseshit left behind by the former administration.

Y'all ought to think about where your tantrums, lies, and antiAmerican histrionics at town hall meetings are taking our country.

Joe "Truth 101" Kelly said...

The health care bill is over a thousnad pages long. Be real folks. Just who in the hell has actually read the whole thing outside of the staffers that negotiated this thing. Bills are long and cumbersome because they have to be long and cumbersome. The longest part of negotiations are negotiators asking "what about this?" "What do we do with that?"

Complicated problems require complicated solutions. But it's so much easier to read a sign that only has five or six words on it. Americans demand convenience. Too bad so many of these people showing up at town hall meetings to shout down the people that are trying to help them can't think beyond their limited scope. Perhaps government should shut down all health care programs for a year and tell the people showing up at the clinic without insurance that they're shit out of luck. The guy that lost his health insurance at work with a sick kid. Too bad pal. Your Country feels sorry for you but watching your kid suffer reminds you how wonderful freedom is.

It's easy to tell somebody else to suck it up when it's someone else that has to do the sucking.

Gordon ("but apparently Botox gives you special vision"), as some who has lost many ancestors in the Holocaust, I consider your sarcasm and snark to be especially OFFENSIVE. When you fling Godwin fallacies just to amuse yourself and score cheap partisan points, you dishonor the dead. Know this: Do not the visit the Swash Zone again. You are no longer welcome there and your comments will be deleted on sight.

Gordon Scott said...

Suits me, Octopus. I'd rather not visit a website where the owner uses his heritage to freely toss Nazi slurs at those who disagree, while claiming "You can't say Nazi to me because I had family in the Holocaust!"

Gordon Scott said...

Shaw,

We come here, or at least I do, because you're smart enough and thoughtful enough that I can engage you without either of us resorting to personal insults. That's rare in a lefty, and I cherish you for it.

Arthurstone said...

Good for you Gordon.

I too enjoy Shaw's site.

You may be interested to know (or not as the case may be) your good buddy Daphne 'banned my ass' from her site. As has her good friend Gerard at his immodestly titled 'American Digest'.

Funny. funny world.

To her credit Shaw is engaged and eager to defend her ideas. Not the least bit frightened by mere disagreement she gives as good as she gets. As do posters from the other side of the spectrum such as you and dmarks, Bob, etc. etc. Keep your language clean, no name calling, stay on the topic and anything goes.

Pity the impulse isn't universal.

Daphne and Gerard (two cite my two most recent bannings) detest. Absolutely detest and will not broach any disagreement. None. Nada. Zilch.

Each runs a 'conservative' site where posters work endlessly to frighten one another about the end of the republic, the breakdown of the family, Islamofascism, loss of American 'ideals' and 'values' and generally any topic which fits into the 'oh woe is us it's the end of the world' message.

It's funny how the tiny minded operate. Put the fear pedal to the floor and Zoooooooooom!

Gordon Scott said...

Arthurstone,

I don't read American Digest that often, and rarely the comments. So I don't know why Gerard banned you, and I wouldn't try to characterize the discussions there.

But your description of the activity at Daphne's place is way off base. She almost never discusses politics, and she tolerates a pretty broad range of opinion. What she won't tolerate are fools, and those who attack people she cares about.

You have a talent for pissing folks off, Arthurstone. It's deliberate some times, I'm sure, and I suspect that sometimes it's not. Acerbity is a tricky thing to manage.

I wouldn't ban you from my site, of course, because I'm truly virtuous, tolerant, and I need all the commenters I can get.

Gordon Scott said...

And just so you know, my good buddy (and I'm proud to call her that) has chewed my ass more than once, both publicly and privately. And not just about javalinas.

Arthurstone said...

Gordon typed:

And I appreciate that Gordon.

Actually the thread where I got my whuppin began with a no-holds-barred rant and name calling extravaganza by Daphne on the President and went quickly downhill from there once the topic switched to children. And the having of same. I thought we were having some fun. To be fair though it was her birthday and I think there may have been liquor near the keyboard. Mix excitement with a hot Texas August afternoon and booze and voila!

Bye the bye I'm smoking chicken this weekend. rine the fryer for 24 hours. Throw it in the Big Green Egg over some mesquite chips at 250 or so for a few hours and yum.

Speak loudly and the meat falls off the bone.

It's okay for Shaw to despise Rush. He's not one of my hero's either, frankly he gets on my last nerve pretty damn quick and I don't think he does conservatives any favors with his obnoxious bloviating.

Forgive me Shaw for weighing in on Arthur here - feel free to delete without any hard feelings.

Arthur, I have given you free reign at my place for the past nine months. You have been allowed to smirk, snarl, insult, argue, laugh, share your intelligence and fine wit. I have asked you to pull back the insults on occasion and you always came roaring back with more after a short hiatus. I was more than tolerant of your dissenting views, appreciated those actually. I don't dislike you and didn't ban you because you're a progressive. I banned you because you couldn't seem to keep it at a level of respectable discussion and I was tired of having my friends and myself constantly abused with your ugliness. People can hold differing opinions and political ideologies without treating each other like shit.

I treated you with respect, you rarely showed me the same consideration.

You need to own your piece in this, you behaved badly on my turf. Why would you expect a perpetual pass to piss on me? Do you feel some sort of entitlement to treat people badly?

I don't agree with Shaw on most political issues, but I would never disrespect her - she's intelligent and kind. A worthwhile woman who runs her site with passion and brilliance. Would you shit all over her or her guests if you disagreed? I'm guessing not.

I think you're a whiney pussy, Arthur. A bully. You can dish it, but run crying to third parties over the consequences of your bad behavior when someone plugs you square in the nose for endless rudeness.

Arthurstone said...

Daphne-

Long time.

I do have a piece in this. My piece is calling you and your 'friends' on the carpet when you vomit all over the half of the population with whom you have political disagreements.

I have written nothing, ever at your blog different in degree or kind than conservatives post at this blog. look for yourself. Here's one from Gordon: Geez, Shaw, why not rename the blog "I hate Rush Limbaugh"? Summing up I'd say.

Do you seriously expect to slander and slur entire populations of people their values and their patriotism and commitment to nation and community and not be called on it occasionally?

I never have used the words twat, pussy, moron, idiot, traitor, moonbat, libtard, etc. etc. Never. I once used the word 'bigot' for which I apologized. In hindsight that my have been a mistake.

The apology that is. Because where I come from casting aspersions on folks with 'African-sounding names', the direct quote, is not merely bad manners. It's a prime example of bigotry.

As for insults and bile. Jaded Haven is all about insults. And bile. Read your own post on the thread where last I posted. Something about the gloves coming off followed by lot of name calling regarding the president.

If I were cracking wise about President Obama it wouldn't be a problem. But as I point out the absurdity of much of what passes for thought among 'agile minds' on the right, it isn't much appreciated.

The most common 'respectable discussion' at Jaded Haven is all the regulars chiming in on the 'Marxist' Obama and his uppity wife or the destruction wrought on the republic through handicapped parking spaces.

And that's the way it is Daphne. It's your world and it's a shrinking place.

Cheers!

Au contraire, mon Artur. You are not banned, you are merely edited.

As my rules plainly say, right above the post box:

"Comments are moderated and may not appear immediately. Comments that exceed the obscenity or stupidity limits will be either edited or expunged."

Them's the rules and at my place I make them and exercise them at my whim. Progressive Eruptions may also do the same or not, as the page prefers.

Like so many other shallow folks you seem to have mistaken "blogs" for the word "Congress" in "Congress shall make no law..."

It's a fatal error. Try to learn the difference.

Try.

vanderleun said...

Also, I might note that it is, well, less than manly to come weeping over here with your tale of woe and weekend recipes.

Shaw Kenawe said...

This my blog.

Arthurstone has always behaved like a gentleman, and I have enjoyed his wit and intelligence.

I am not responsible for what he says at other blogs, nor do I care.

I care about what happens here.

What one person perceives as offensive is another person's incisive wit.

It's all a matter of POV.

Arthurstone said...

Actually a comment was rejected yesterday.

But a minor quibble. But it's good to let a wider audience have a little look-see at the folks struggling day and night to 'save' America. Of course you don't have an obligation to post any and everything. I certainly never said you did. I'm merely pointing out the difference in approach between folks like you and Daphne and folks like Shaw.

People will draw their own conclusions and, trust me, your very own appearance here along with your rather condescending blog disclaimer included for all to admire makes that job easier.

Bye the bye. You may not much care for me but when I talk food I know whereof I speak.

Cheers!

vanderleun said...

Well, perhaps you do know food. But I would observe that chicken with the possession of a smoker is not exactly a difficult challenge. It merely requires preparation and patience.

Now, if you could whip up a good bechamel sauce for a nicely cooked bunch of aspergers that might be something worth watching.

Arthurstone said...

Actually spring spargle grilled then drizzled with extra virgin & a touch of sea salt is more to my taste. I'll save my fat intake for the crispy chicken skin.

Gordon Scott said...

Arthurstone,

I almost bought a Green Egg once...at a garage sale, I think. I'd be interested to hear about the process with one.

I've brined turkeys, but not a chicken (so far). With my smoker, it never gets hot enough to crisp up the skin, so I always finish chicken on the grill or in the oven.

Gerard: You are quite correct. Editing the content of someone's own publication is an expression of First Amendment freedom, not censorship or a denial of it.

As for my "point of view", I rarely agree with Arthur. However, I've seen none of his comments here or on any other blog that I would consider worthy of editing out.

I highly recommend the BGE. It smokes at 200 - 250. And it can fire up to 650 for searing. Yum. And they're durable. Mine is twelve and all the handles, lids, gaskets etc are replacable. Never heard of regrets buying a Big Green Egg.

Right you are dmarks. Right you are.

The conversation was never about 'an expression of First Amendment Freedom'. It was about who's chickens**t and who isn't.

I've made it as clear as I possibly can what my views on that topic are in the context of our little discussion of various blogs.

You mileage may vary.
