GOP TALKS GOVERNMENT SHUT-DOWN TO SHOCK AMERICAN PEOPLE, THEN WILL BLAME OBAMA FOR SHUT-DOWN

Reposted from The Swash Zone.  h/t Nameless Cynic.

Listen to the GOPers lie about NOT wanting a government shut-down, then in the second part of the video, listen to them say how good a tactic this will be for America.

Don't these people know that everything they say is on video, and that what they say can actually be verified to see if they're telling, y'know, THE TRUTH?

It's all part of the "show" isn't it? When they say everything is on the table, what they really mean is all of the items they want on the table are on the table.

How else can someone explain the importance of funding defense 100% for the year, but only wanting to fund the rest of government 1 week at a time?

If everything is on the table, as we have been told numerous times by our GOP leadership, why are cuts to defense and tax increases not included?

Just askin...

Judge Napolitano blithely asserts that the country will go about its business even if the government shuts down.

For him, no problemo.

For poor and sick people who depend on their SS checks and medicaid, they will NOT be unaffected.

But millionaire teevee pundits and millionaire Congressmen/women never think about how a government shut-down will hurt those who don't have deep pockets.

They truly are the oligarchy and then there's the rest of us.

Shaw,
About those Title X provisions such as funding for Planned Parenthood, the national mews media has cast this political conflict as another example of the Culture Wars ... meaning abortion.

I offer another interpretation. I believe it is also about the women's vote, an important constituency for Obama and the Democrats. If Obama abandons Title X funding, he risks alienating an important base of support in advance of next year's election.

This ties in with union-busting and Republican effort to push voter ID cards in state legislatures ... all traditional sources of Democratic support. In other words, these measures combined conspire to undermine election prospects for the Democrats in 2012. If the Republicans succeed in destroying all traditional sources of support for the Democrats, then what we have left is basically a one party system with only token opposition. In other words: Protofascism. See tnlib's top post today.

I think the establishment Republicans knew defunding of Planned Parenthood was something they weren't going to get. This was all about upping the budget cuts as much as they could.

On the other hand, you may be right. Tails they win and heads the Democrats lose? Either way the result is pretty sweet for them.
