Ben and George

Travel day.

Here are some things to think about:

Dr. Ben puts his foot in it again.  This is why he'll never be president.

So if he were president, and the SCOTUS ruled on something he did not like, he'd ask Congress to remove the Supreme Court judges?  Is there no irony left on the political right?  He and his fellow Tea-Pee-ers claim Mr. Obama is a DIKTATER! and here's Dr. Carson, the Tea-Pee-ers' hero, proposing something any dictator would envy:  Getting rid of the judges who don't rule as you wish!

As a politician, he's a very good surgeon.

It is amazing what intelligent men are capable of when they are infected with the desire for power and using the "good book" as their guide.

Did I mention voices from God heard in their head?

...may my pickle stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may it be wrong
for whenever gherkins are green they are not young

and may my sweet and sour do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than pickle-juicey
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one bite.

I don't suppose there's any hope we can get George Carlin to run for President?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Well George would certainly make more sense than Dr. Ben. Can we vote for a candidate posthumously?

Shaw Kenawe said...

RN, Dr. Ben felt the "finger of God" poking him to run for president. How is he able to tell the difference between poking to run for president or poking to get off the stage?

Les Carpenter said...

Good question Shaw. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that a poke to the right side ribs is a signal to run for president. A poke to the left side ribs is the signal to exit the stage.

So if my admittedly uneducated guess is correct we will know when the "finger of God" pokes Dr. Carson again.

We wait with baited breath.

The last conservative politician just retired and his recommendation was to throw all of them out and start fresh.

It is the belief of the democrats that it would benefit the country if they stole more money from the "rich" but no one seems to be able to say how that would help. What percentage is fair?

Wouldn't comprehensive tax reform be a better idea and eliminate All deductions for individuals or FAIR TAX.

Shaw Kenawe said...

who determines what a fair tax is?

Ducky's here said...

A fair tax?

Tax groups of people in proportion to the percentage of the wealth they control.
Of course this will bring the old Limbaugh line about the wealthy paying the bulk of the income tax while ignoring that the income tax is less only around half, maybe a little less of Federal revenue.

What we are seeing today in the huge shift of health upward which started with Saint Ronnie Raygun along with trade policy is harming the nation.

Dave Miller said...

Welcome back Skud... Now we can all ask questions of a conservative who, like the others, will not answer...

So, what Dem has advocated stealing money from the rich? Raising taxes maybe, but stealing? When Ike had the tax rate above 60% for big earners, did he call it stealing? When Reagan got the largest tax increase in US history passed, did conservatives call that stealing?

Words and terms like that, along with socialist, commie, libturd, and ovomit only serve to poison the well of discourse.

Why do you continue to use them? Debate the idea, don't just post a snarky unfounded comment and run away.

That's what adults do.

Here's an example...

One site today is defending Bobby Jindal and his use of the term "No go zones." In the post, it is stated while there are no actual no go zones, there are high crime areas where you would not go. So even though he used inaccurate words, he was not wrong, or lying.

That logic would never fly in a real discussion. But for folks who refuse to join an adult discussion, it is standard fare.

Us libs have those places too, but that is not here. Words have meaning here, as they should everywhere.

Why us that so hard for some to understand

skudrunner said...

There have been many studies on what percentage to be applied to a fair tax and how do you equal it out for lower income people, which has to be done.

The current tax code favors the rich, and not the 250k small business owner but the super rich like members of congress. They have the means to use loopholes and deductions to lower the taxes they pay. It also makes non-profits churches and charities a funnel for their leaders to skim without paying taxes.

Get rid of all deductions including to churches and other non-profits. The fair or consumption tax is revenue neutral but Politicians hate the idea because they lose power of the purse strings.

Perhaps, God was just giving Dr. Ben a postrate exam.

Les Carpenter said...

Fair is one of the most over used and subjective concepts there is. What is deemed "fair" by some will be deemed unfair by others.

IMO what is needed is a complete revamp of our complex tax code, simplification, elimination of loopholes and tax breaks for those who don't need them, tax incentives for American business to create jobs in the states, and establishing marginal tax rates that reasonable folks deem reasonable.

skudrunner, perhaps you could provide a bit more info on what you deem a comprehensive tax reform should look like.

From The Guardian:

"House members were due to vote on Thursday for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would have instituted a national ban on abortions in the 20th week of pregnancy and later. The legislation was expected to pass easily, as a similar ban did in 2013. But dissent from some of the party’s women drove the bill off the docket.

In the days leading up to the vote, Representative Renee Ellmers of North Carolina had said she opposed the bill, as did second-year congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana. Their rumblings helped provoke a meeting on Wednesday night with the House majority whip, Steve Scalise, and at least 10 other female Republican representatives. The GOP dropped the measure shortly after."

This is going to make Ben Carson sad.

Interesting that the representatives mentioned were from "red" North Carolina and Indiana. Liberal or conservative, women are tired of this crap.

Steve "Birth of a Nation" Scales is still around.

David,

"Words and terms like that, along with socialist, commie, libturd"
Why do you continue to use them?"

You must be thinking of someone else!

RN
As comprehensive tax reform goes, you pretty much nailed it up,nice job. It won't happen because the very people who write the reforms are the ones who abuse the deductions the most. How many in congress are not millionaires including princess warren?

Duck,

Why is success such a bad thing and what is a fair share?

Dave Miller said...

Skud, my question on those terms was more aimed towards conservatives in general.

As for the words you specifically use, I notice, contrary to what you posted about answering, again, no response was given.

Was it not posted?

If that is true, I am guessing your response must have come with a healthy does of snark.

Dave Miller said...

Skud... I should add Hildabeast to the list of terms that poison debate.

DO you ever use that term?

Ducky's here said...

@Skud -- Why is success such a bad thing and what is a fair share?

----
Please note a few things:

1. If you think I'm going to let you mold the terms of the conversation you're wrong. This isn't rabies media.

2. AT NO TIME did I say success was a bad thing. I suggested a reasonable tax policy.

3. A hedge fund manager who recently made a bet that oil prices would fall made a billion dollars and will be see it taxed as carried interest, this means that he will probably pay a long term capital gain rate even though he made the bet for a short period.

Now if you wish you can tell me:

1. What value did he generate for the economy.

2. Why shouldn't he at least pay the short term rate (i.e. same as income).

Let me know what you think but try to stay on point.

As much as I would like to take credit for hildebeast I have to give michelle o that credit.
"Michelle Obama and Valerie Jarrett, Their favorite bête noire was Hillary Clinton, whom they nicknamed “Hildebeest,”

As to the tax question, What would be a "fair" amount for the "rich" to pay. If I take something from you without your consent am I not stealing. If the government singles out a group solely to acquire their funds, is that not stealing?
Do you favor eliminating all deductions which mostly favor the "rich" including church and charitable deductions?

Well some on the right think liberals are afraid of Carson. Yeah. I remember when the righties thought liberals were afraid of Sarah Palin when they trotted her out as some right wing genius/savior. How'd that work out for them?

They never learn and they're determined to trot out another clueless pol who thinks he has a chance to win the presidency? What a joke.

C. Johnson the 3rd said...

"If I take something from you without your consent am I not stealing."

When the rich find loopholes and tax shelters so they don't pay taxes like everyone else, they're stealing because the rest of us have to make up for them hiding taxable income.

"If the government singles out a group solely to acquire their funds, is that not stealing?"

If rich people hire expensive tax lawyers to hide their money so they don't have to pay, isn't that cheating?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Free Twinkies, the right doesn't see Dr. Carson's ridiculous statements as foolish, but they eat that nonsense up. Stating that Obamacare is the worst thing since slavery, that the U.S. is now just like Nazi Germany, and that Congress should get rid of judges who rule on subjects he and his religious brethren disagree with is so inane and extremist that anyone with functioning brains cells should dismiss him as a political crackpot.

He is a good surgeon and should stick to what he knows. And he knows nothing about politics.

C. Johnson the 3rd said...

Remember how the right tried to overturn Obamacare? How's that working out for them?

Skud, you known darn well that repeating, regardless of from where it came, a term like Hildabeast, is demeaning and poisons the well...

My only point.

As for answering questions, again, you dodged, both mine and Ducky's questions.

Why should anyone here not consider you a troll?

Are you here to enter into a conversation, or just make debating points?

I'll admit I can snarky on other sites, but I try to at least answer the questions.

You? Hardly, and if you do, you'll usually include a little name calling.

Why do you persist in using a pejorative to describe HRC?

After reading Progressive blogs its very clear to me that not only are leftist snide horticulturist, but the ones who call themselves "Progressives" make it very hard for me to inspect any bed of zinnias because it makes me feel mentally unbalanced like a deranged macaroon, who keeps supporting empty seed packets.

Mr Obama was the only hope for us to put a stop to the tensions; but from how he has been governing, I believe he wants this unrest just like every other 3rd world dacron-shirt wearer does in their countries. I'm an idiot when it comes to verb-noun agreement because I am a Tea Party illiterate, you understand.

The rest of what I have to say is incoherent and full of hideous grammatical stupidity and nonsensical idiocy, but please read it anyway? Here it is:

"Progressives are no better for supporting a militant army of Obama thugs advocating murder or capture for money.

But then again look who the president is and his background and his past association with Farrakhan."

This is, of course, (see I do know how to use commas) pure bullcrap, but I need to get it out of my system somewhere. Thanks for listening and having pity on me.

Don't expect the Tea Party drones to see the irony in this. Obama is a dictator to them, but when Carson actually proposes a totalitarian solution to policies he doesn't like, the Tea Party falls over themselves not noticing the double standard.

It's either hypocrisy or stupidity or both.

Les Carpenter said...

Both methinks.

Reason and objective thinking may be an impossibilty fot the Teapot Tea Party drones.

David,

According to some, if you differ with the theme of a blog you are a troll.

Duck, In your cited example did he break the law, no, did he use the tax laws to his own advantage, yes. Why fault an individual for taking advantage of existing laws. Congress will not make meaningful changes to the tax system because they are the millionaires who benefit from it.
Any income, earned or not, is income so tax it as such. If you are going to contribute to charities then do it because you want to not because it is deductible. Mortgage interest is a joke and so are RE tax deductions. Being able to deduct a tax you paid from one you owe is insane.
Change the entire tax code or go to a FAIR TAX system.

Now back to my question, what is the percentage that would be fair?

Doc Ben sez even if Obamacare worked beautifully he would be against it becuz it's sochalismic!

We're so happy he'll never be preznit!!!!!

"He told the crowd that he's vehemently against the federal government diving further into health care. 'Even if it worked,' he said, he would oppose it."

Nice, Dr. Ben. Even if Obamacare helped millions of families, you'd still be against it.

You give Christianity a hellish name.
