Looney Tunes

UPDATE BELOW

The Northeast is bracing itself for historic winter storm, Juno.

America is bracing herself for historic looney tunes from some of the Tea Party's greatest clowns as the 2016 presidential contest begins:

First, we hear from one of the Tea-Pee-ers' perennial goofballs, Donald "My People in Hawaii Are Finding Amazing Things About Obama's Birth Certificate!" Trump:

Trump Keeps Trolling: I Woulda Beaten Obama, Might Run In 2016

Sure, sure, Mr. Purty Lips, you coulda been a contenda!  All 200 of your biggest fans are urging you to throw that dead squirrel you wear on your head into the ring and declare your candidacy. You've got the rugmentum!  Go for it Donny boy!  And pay no attention to this guy.

Next, we have John McCain's greatest gift to America's political cartoonists and comedy shows, the ex-half-term governor of Alaska and matriarch of  the drunken brawlin' Palin clan, Sarah "I Can See The Presidency From My House, AGAIN!" Palin.

She recently appeared at the Iowa Freedom Summit and apparently lost her notes as well as had the misfortune of having her teleprompter malfunction (yes, the little lady who makes fun of Obama using a teleprompter uses a teleprompter).  So with nothing more than her wits and soaring rhetorical skills, Sistah Sarah gave an impromptu speech, and she killed it!   The English language, that is.  But we expect nothing less than that when Palin opens her mouth and a tornado of sounds blunderingly spin their way into the room, enveloping her listeners in a vortex of nouns, verbs and "lamestream media."

Mrs. Palin's speechifying speech stunned the DNC whose spokesperson had only two words to say after her dizzying performance:   "Thank you."

Yes.  And thank you, again, John McCain, for giving the nascent Tea Partiers, way back when, an astounding political phenom whom they continue to pin their hopes, dreams, and dollars on, believing that it is she, and no one else, who will deliver the White House to the GOP  Yes, thank-you, and here's looking at you, Louie Gohmert, I understand Mrs. Palin sees you as nicely balancing her ticket: "Looney and Loonier."

From Liberals United, here are some of Mrs. Palin's droppings:

“The man can only ride you when your back is bent. So strengthen it! Then the man can’t ride you. America won’t get taken for a ride, because so much is at stake."

On Obamacare:

“What will they do to stop causing our pain, and start feeling it again?

 On Hillary:

“Now I’m ready for Hillary Are you? Are you coming?” “Now the press asks, the press asks, “Can anyone stop Hillary?” Again, this is to forego a conclusion, right? It’s to scare us off, to convince us that – a pantsuit can crush patriots?”

On 2016:

“Knowing what the media will do throughout 2016 to all of us, it’s going to take more than a village to beat Hillary…We the people, we realize that this is war, as I say, it is war for the solvency, the sovereignty of the United States of America. And we don’t sit on our thumbs this next time when one of our own is being crucified and falsely accused of whatever the hip activation of the day happens to be, right? Racism, sexism, whatever. Really, it’s kind of Orwellian observing how that works, that rule of Saul Alinsky’s I suppose, that the left employs. Disgusting charges from the left. You know, reverse them. It is they who point a finger who don’t realize they have triple that number of fingers pointing right back at them, revealing that they are the ones who really discriminate and divide.”

UPDATE:

From Andrew Sullivan's blog:

In Roger Simon’s words, the clown car became the clown van. The crowd egged on the far right to go further over the edge. The one candidate who might begin to appeal to more than the base – Bush – was a no-show. By all accounts, Scott Walker gave a bravura performance, which may be the only salient thing to last once the vapors have lifted (and he’s worth watching). But to have so many wackos deliver such red meat to a far right base – with Palin and The Donald delivering random strips of steak tartare – is not a basis for appealing to the broader middle any major party has to, if it wants to govern and not merely scream.

The Palin speech was truly a wonder – an Allan Ginsburg-style Republican “Howl”. I know that with respect to her, I’m an alcoholic who shouldn’t go near a bar – but I couldn’t help myself. Watching the stream of narcissistic, delusional consciousness was like downing three shots of Jäger at once. And there were times when it seemed as if she’d done the same thing (just pick any three minutes at random).

That Palin speech is a classic. It's beyond the usual word salad. It's like she fed a bunch of clichés through a meat grinder and stirred thoroughly.

I don't believe she's really going to run for President, but if she is, this will end it. Make Rick Perry sound like Socrates.

I read about her comments... As I read them, here are my thoughts...

If you just took them word for word, and pasted them unedited on a few of the conservative sites we all read, they would be right at home.

Seriously, those words, and the rambling incoherence could just as easily be any of a dozen of the commenters Ducky identifies as sock puppets.

Seriously, where is the difference?

Every day Palin is the face of part of the GOP, and given a national stage by the party and FOX, is a good day for Dems...

Infidel753, while we can laugh at the silliness of anyone taking Mrs. Palin seriously as a candidate or even a political pundit, the real tragedy is that there are groups of people in this country who really, really think she's the real deal. Dear Gourd!

This is exactly where our educational system has failed this country.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave, you're so right. I hadn't thought of that comparison. No wonder the sock puppets at that blog defend Mrs. Palin! She sounds just like them, speaks their language!

Actually, she's a few points higher on the IQ continuum than most of those folks, whose IQs are comparable to grapefruit juice.

"Former Republican Congressman and 'Morning Joe' host Joe Scarborough said on Monday morning that Sarah Palin's rambling speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit was 'a tragedy,' marveling at how far the former Republican vice presidential nominee had fallen from her 2008 heyday."

Dear Joe,

The problem is that the Tea-Pee-ers refused to look at Mrs. Palin and see her for what she really is. That's the tragedy: People who refuse to see what is in front of their noses. Palin was never brilliant, never smart, and certainly liberals were never afraid of her.

Unfortunately, we live in a country where certain types of people glorify grifters like Palin and nincompoops like Trump.

There you go again ... offending grapefruits.

Shaw... Joe is not the only one... many conservative pundits are finally seeing what we all saw that fateful night she froze when asked what newspapers she read...

An empty, blank stare, devoid of real thought.

What I find interesting is that some are still blaming the media for her demise. As if they forced her to not prepare for the public spotlight.

Non related... while you hunker down with the impending blizzardageddon, I'll be heading south to Oaxaca...

Stay warm, and safe...

Dave, thanks. No fear. I escaped to the sunshine state 4 days ago.

Good grief can you at least wait till a candidate is chosen so you can save all your fury for them?

Shaw Kenawe said...

To the Anonymous idiot who keeps leaving comments with links in them. Save your energy for picking the fleas out of the hair on your palms, pal. The links don't work in comment moderation, so we don't see them, and your incessant attempts to get on this blog will never work.

@Anonymous 4:34PM,

Are you one of those Tea-Pee-ers who visits his/her fury on all things Obama on a daily basis on conservative blogs?

BTW, what fury are you talking about?
I'm laughing at Trump and Palin in this blog post.

Don't you know the difference?

If I were a liberal I would be hopping with glee if see were to run. But Infidel75 is probably right, she won't run. I mean she can't really be THAT stupid. Or can she?

The GOP should politely tell her she is welcome to continue paying membership dues but they are no longer going to give a stage or even a bit part.

We have our 6 year old grandson every other weekend and believe me he has more serious thoughts running through his mind than Palin probably does on her good days.

RN - " But Infidel75 is probably right, she won't run. I mean she can't really be THAT stupid."

She already is THAT stupid.

The real question is "Can the GOP be stupid enough to nominate her as their presidential candidate?"

Les Carpenter said...

Likely not Jerry.

I really don't think she's rstupid, just incredibly lazy when it comes to the hard work of thinking.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... maybe it's piling on, but I can't help myself...

To all those who are sure Pres Obama is wrecking America, and that only those in the mold of Sarah Palin or Mike Huckabee can right the ship, the hits just keep coming..

Today it was announced the deficit will be lower than when Obama took office and then this, from the non-partisan [at least it is when it agrees with the GOP] CBO that says "Obamacare" will cost 20% less than previously thought.

Oh, yeah, and the number of uninsured continues to drop...

"Sam Clovis, a professor from Morningside College in Sioux City, wasn't impressed.

He said Palin's speech lacked structure, which means she missed an opportunity to shine at the Iowa Freedom Summit.

'Palin was a sad story Saturday. With every speech she gives, she gets worse and worse. If one were playing a political cliche drinking game, no one would have been sober after the first 15 minutes of an interminable ramble. It was really painful,' he said."

Jerry Critter said...

LOL!!! "The hard work of thinking". Boy are we in trouble when thinking becomes hard work! I think you nailed it, RN.

What I meant was, Palin is no longer actually a politician. She's a celebrity, whose notoriety is based on a former, truncated political career and the belief of her fans that she is still, at least potentially, a politician. She's created a lucrative career for herself as a cult figure for a certain sub-set of Republicans, and she has no reason to try to change that situation.

To keep her celebrity status, though, from time to time she has to act as though she's about to re-enter real politics, to keep the fans interested. But that's all it is. The speech cited here is a good example. She can give better speeches than this; she has in the past. If she were actually going to run for President, she would have taken the trouble to make it more coherent. To merely keep her celebrity status among her fans, though, no such extra effort was necessary. She just has to throw out buzzwords and clichés that excite the rubes.

This was not the speech of a serious candidate. It was a performance more like Lindsey Lohan having a "wardrobe malfunction" or Justin Bieber acting like an asshole in public -- just hogging the limelight enough to keep the fans buying her "books", going to her public appearances, and so forth for a while longer.

You should be scared of Palin and the rest of the clowns the TPs offer up as potential candidates. We all should be afraid of the sort of people who think Palin or Trump or Gohmert are qualified to be in positions of power. Those people are not sane.

Ducky's here said...

The one to be frightened of is Scott Walker. He knows how to keep a low profile and not pull a Ben Carson.

He'll have an organization in place and strike when it is opportune. A real snake.

This storm doesn't seem as bad as Nemo but it still sucks.

Infidel753: "This was not the speech of a serious candidate. It was a performance more like Lindsey Lohan ..."

A fair and accurate assessment. Nevertheless, we should remind ourselves that the Personality Cult of Huckster and Palin, et. al., are part of larger phenomenon that includes sitting office holders in state legislatures and Congress with a determined agenda.

Witness recent legislative initiatives that would allow businesses to discriminate against LGBTs on the basis of “religious freedom;” that would withhold the salary of any county clerk who issues a gay marriage license, that would dismisses any judge who rules against the Inquisitors, that would amend the Constitution and make discrimination legal, that would confer legal personhood status upon fetuses with more legal rights than the women carrying them – thus turning half the population into mere incubators.

I propose a redefinition of the GOP acronym: Govern, Oppress, and Persecute.

Sounds more like fundamentalist reactionary religionists rather than a political party's policies. They have this skewed idea that a majority of Americans share their oppressive ideas of legislating religious taboos into law.

Rather Talibanish I would say.
