Big middle fingers right now for everyone who wanted to “shake things up” and "stick it to the libtards."

The people who voted on that premise and for an idiot are now part of the coronavirus exposure. Happy with yourselves?

RD... they'd answer yes they are happy... because they view the virus as a liberal hoax, a plot from North Korea, a mediavirus and nothing more than the flu or a cold for most people.

Aside from the glaringly obvious hypocrisy of Lindsay G. and almost the entire GOP, as well as the embarrassing incompetence of Dotard there wouldn't be much exciting going on these days. Other than trying to find TP, sanitizer, wipes, and alcohol that is.

Don't you wonder if this is just a great experiment to see how the media can cause a panic at any given time. There have been fewer cases of coronavirus in the same time frame as the flu and fewer deaths. Now people are in a panic because the media tells you you should be in a panic. The stock market sucks, there are long lines to buy everything, unemployment is increasing at a rapid rate and the media is in the background laughing. Not the reporters because they are to ignorant to know when they are being played as are the majority of the American people.
The flock marches in lock step because they are told to without considering how many of their associates have contracted the virus and how many have died, probably zero. How many have contracted the flu, probably several yet this is far worse. Sixty thousand died of the flu last year in the US yet 6500 have died from the coronavirus WORLDWIDE but the coronavirus is much worse. The swine flu killed over 12000 Americans yet no one closed the borders or made speeches to shelter in place and panic.
The news media is winning this round and with the help from the alarmists may prevail. I would blame this on pelosi because they couldn't over throw trump in any other way but she is not that smart and doesn't realize she is a pawn.

Hey stud! Is Trump contributing to what you call a”panic” because his presser today sounded like he’s finally beginning to take this crisis seriously. And so should you. Leave your conspiracies and partisan comments behind and join the rest of America and take this seriously.

Does your resident troll believe this is just media hype?:

"Scientists tracking the spread of the coronavirus reported on Monday that, for every confirmed case, there are most likely another five to 10 people in the community with undetected infections. These often-milder cases are, on average, about half as infectious as confirmed ones, but are responsible for nearly 80 percent of new cases, according to the report, which was based on data from China.

The researchers modeled the virus’s natural spread in China before the government instituted a travel ban and an aggressive testing policy. During that time, from December of last year through late January, about 6 in 7 cases went undetected. That situation is analogous to the current state of affairs in the United States and other Western countries, where tests are not widely available, the researchers said.

“If we have 3,500 confirmed cases in the U.S., you might be looking at 35,000 in reality,” said Jeffrey Shaman, an epidemiologist at Columbia University and the senior author of the new report, which was posted by the journal Science.

The report is among the first to address two of the most pressing questions about the pandemic: How many people are walking around with unrecognized infections, and how infectious are they? As American policymakers have begun taking more aggressive measures to slow transmission, such as canceling events and closing restaurants, access to tests for the virus has been difficult or nonexistent in much of the country."

Ask yourself why the markets didn’t tank during Ebola, Swine Flu, and SARS.

The answer is simple.

We had competent leadership.

Dave Miller said...

Ray... or they weren't being artificially stimulated by a crazy administration.

skudrunner said...

Not really Ray we just didn't have all the media hype and a president that wasn't hated by the press.

Ms. Shaw, I am taking precautions and being careful about gatherings with people I don't know which is the responsible thing to do. I don't have a six month supply of toilet paper and the stores are all sole out but I will be fine. Thanks for caring.

I do believe there are thousands of cases that are going undetected but it is hard to test for something when there are no tests. I know it is trumps fault there were no tests There were 13 million cases of the flue last year, 280,000 hospitalized and 16,000 deaths

Dave Miller said...

Skud... is our president lying now? He is saying the same thing the media has been saying for weeks.

This is a crisis.

Do you expect the media to not report a crisis? Finally, yesterday, President Trump seemed to show that he gets it. Would we be at this point if the media had not been diligent in reporting on Covid-19?

If you were king of the media, how would you have reported on this as it unfolded, people around the globe died, it came to the US, the political right, you included, called it noting more dangerous than the flu, and finally, in areas like Washington and New York, started to kill US citizens?

skudrunner said...

Rev, what is the definition of a crisis. Is it 2500 people affected out of 330 million and less than 100 deaths of people with compromised immune systems.
The definition of a depression is when your neighbor looses their job compared to a recession is where you lose yours. This is not a crisis by any measure.

Should the media report, of course but they are partly responsible for a panic which is not needed. Did they create a panic during the swine flu, no nor did they create a panic during flu season. They report what steps should be taken to keep yourself safe not mass hysteria that the sky is falling. We don't hold our media in much esteem and that is warranted because they have an agenda to push and they do a good job of pushing it.
How much have they said about trump protecting our borders and receiving pushback from the left. How are cities dealing with street residents during this "crisis". Not a word.
We now know that China and Hong Cong are coming alive and we will do the same. Time will tell the extent of this "crisis" and if it bad they will point out that those of reason were wrong, if it is not all that bad, crickets.

Dave Miller said...

Skud says... This is not a crisis by any measure and asks what is the definition of a crisis?

Here's how presidential historian Jon Meacham defines the word crisis..."The word crisis is from Greek, from Hippocrates [of the oath]. It's the point in medicine where the patient either lives, or dies. It's supposed to be an inflection point, a turning point. This is as genuine a crisis as there is."

Skud, if this is not a crisis, nothing is. Medical professionals are scared to death. Scientists are scared to death. The media did not do that to them. They looked at the evidence and made a call, based on their expertise. Then the media reported on that.

Here's the rub... when the medical community is in near unanimity with their advice, and people disregard it, what should we do? In this case, local, state and federal governments decided to "provide for the common good" and set down a series of recommendations for the American people.

But many don't like, or believe the Feds have that role, or the power to enforce that role.

As for our crisis, here's what I think will happen... we will all generally be alright. It will not be as bad as people warned. Some will say that's because the threat was overblown. The sharps, the professionals, will know better. They will know that their warnings changed behavior, flattened the curve and saved the day. And sadly, the conspiracy ppl, the naysayers and nonbelievers in science will not believe them.

Because they live in a world where their "common sense" means more to them than objective facts.

Dave Miller said...

Skud... tell us how you go to a site that posts stuff like this and you see no issues with the GOP partisans or blogging loonies?

I’M THINKING THAT TRUMP SHOULD STIR THE POT AND DECLARE THE ELECTION IN NOVEMBER DELAYED BECAUSE OF THE VIRUS. BET THAT MAKES IT DISAPPEAR OVERNIGHT!
Seriously, I’m not sure that might not be the great cure! 🙂
ALSO: Some are afraid capitalists could PROFITEER on this virus. I’m all for profiteering! In a Socialist country, who’d care?
In the debate the other night, Sanders said:
“THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR PROFITEERING!”
No, Mr. Sanders….THIS IS EXACTLY THE TIME FOR PROFITEERING AND GOD BLESS THEM ALL!”

Mind you, the person writing this teaches at a high school. And is frequently wondering why young people are so brainwashed and stupid these days.

Really? profiteering is good? It's good when people are vulnerable? This is the kind of person you cheer on.

And that's before we get to the idea that a president should postpone an election just to piss ppl off. Yes, the ppl who for months accused President Obama of wanting to cancel the last elections, are okay with this person's suggestion?

What a bunch of real Americans and patriotic people all of you are.

Les Carpenter said...

Skud... look up PANDEMIC.

The actions being taken skud are to impede transmision of the virus by interupting and stopping if possible community spread. This virus in South Korea, who has been much more proactive and agressive in testing, is experiencing a .06% mortality rate. Our effortd are to keep our population even safer. Whether YOU wish to believe this virus is serious with the POTENTIAL of killing people in the millions if the spread in not interupted and blunted is, your choice. However the smart thing to do is LISTEN TO THE SCIENTIC MEDICAL COMMUNITY who understands the potential of human destruction this virus carries with it.

Shaw add to what Miller posted this was found on a far right blog:

"On a bright note, perhaps the Coronavirus may very well reduce the number of homeless living and ruining cities on the west coast...keep your fingers crossed

Funny! I had that SAME thought a day or two ago, Rusty.

Glad you posted it. Thanks!

God really DOES wrk in mysterious ways. ;-)"

So the above two Trumpers are actually hoping that some of the most vulnerable, down-trodden Americans DIE! from the coronavirus. I'm not making this up, it's on the WYD blog!

These same people pretend to be Christians and post a lot about Jesus and God and Love. I've never seen anything like this in my life. Trumpers hoping Americans die!

They're monsters.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Ray, Dave, and RN, I just don't understand where that kind of misanthropic hate comes from. Usually happy, well adjusted people feel compassion for those who are in trouble and need help. I don't understand people who wish death on Americans who are in financial trouble and homeless. And I don't understand people who think it's funny to let the haves PROFIT off the have-nots.

Have we become that depraved and uncaring? Has trump sucked the humanity out of 30% of our population?

Dave Miller said...

Literally just in. At midnight tonight, PST, all slot machines in Nevada will be shut down. Tomorrow at noon, all casinos, gambling establishments, hotels and every single non essential business must, under order by the governor, close for a minimum of 30 days.

Since the day Las Vegas was founded, the slots have run 24/7.

Tomorrow? Nothing.

The entire tourism business here is down. What will people do to pay their bills? Rent? How does food get on the table?

But at least as Skud has said, this is not a crisis.

Craig said...

THIS IS EXACTLY THE TIME FOR PROFITEERING AND GOD BLESS THEM ALL!”

Dave, It's obvious Mz Z doesn't know the difference between profiting and profiteering (price gouging). Or, maybe she does and thinks charging exorbitant prices for scarce items is the American way. She's either ignorant or cruel.

Skud, The DemoRats and their media accomplices have managed to shut down most of Europe, cause overwhelmed Italian doctors to have to choose who gets a respirator and who doesn't ( who lives or dies), disrupt global supply chains, cause a worldwide economic meltdown, and fool medical experts all over the world. They did it all to get rid of Trump. You might be giving them a little too much power.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Craig and Dave, I think folks like skud are upset that this crisis happened during a Republican administration, and not just a normal Republican administration, but one headed by a complete incompetent, liar, cheat, and fraud. Therefore, folks like skud need to deflect and dissemble, and blame the media.

As I've read in several opinion pieces (mostly by conservatives), Trump did not cause this pandemic, but his lying and dismissal of its severity endangered people's lives. For that, Trump and his administration is responsible.

Dave, a friend of my sister, (they both live in Florida), just came back from a long weekend gambling in Biloxi, Mississippi. This "friend" wants to join my sister and her other friends in their weekly mahjong game. All of these women are in their 70s and 80s. And my sister is on chemo shots for the rest of her life! I might add that this is Florida, and the majority of her friends are Trumpers. They don't believe this scourge is serious!

This is another reason for being so angry with Trump: He downplayed the severity of this disease for months which, in turn, allowed poeple like my sister's "friend" to spread and infect other people she is in contact with.

Trump thought he could b.s. this pandemic away.

Les Carpenter said...

It must be shocking for Trump. To find out he ain't that all knowledgeable and powerful person he as always envisioned himself to be.

skudrunner said...

Ms Shaw, There is a difference between a crisis and panic and the press has created a panic. This is good for them but bad for the American people. Granted trump did not heed the advice of many but that is typical for him because in his mind no one is smarter.

A significant percentage of Americans form their opinions from media reports and the media said PANIC which they are doing. I'll go slow with this so even RN can understand. A reasoned approach from the media is to inform what to do to keep people safe instead of panic them to buying a years worth of TP and 12 dozen eggs.

Now after joey wins the election and we have a female president who are you going to blame for everything. No one blamed the swell guy for the 13000 deaths from swine flu or the thousands of lives lost to ISIS so I guess she will be blameless as well.

People didn't vote because they didn't want a women president. They voted because they didn't want that women president.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... as everyone here knows, I travel in evangelical circles. That crowd is in a fix. As recently as a few days ago I was told repeatedly by a good friend that this is nothing more than the flu, that the panic is all overblown and we should be cautious, but not crazy in how we live our lives.

When I asked that person about what medical professionals were saying that was contrary that opinion, I was told that he was listening to other people. I presume those were FOX News ppl.

Those beliefs forced them to live in less safe ways, ignoring recommended safeguards. Like those folks in Florida.

Here's the deal though... if the measures we are taking now succeed in flattening the curve, and we don't see a cataclysmic result, those same science doubters will say "See! We were right. It wasn't all that bad." Of course they will be unable to consider that perhaps our extreme response was responsible for the good results.

Because then you'd have to admit it really was a crisis.
