General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

Lindsey Graham @LindseyGrahamSC: "If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.......and we will deserve it."

David Axelrod

“...As Trump sits and watches the criminal trial he hoped to avoid unfold, he must know that a potential reckoning he has spent a lifetime eluding could be coming. He has been reduced to a criminal defendant in a courtroom where someone else has absolute power and the rules very definitely apply. The weariness and vulnerability captured in those courtroom images betray a growing recognition that he could wind up as the thing his old man most reviled:”

 A convicted criminal? No, worse.

A loser.”

Writer Fiona Webster:

"To those who’ve known DJT a long time, or who used to work for him, it’s no surprise the gravity & process of this criminal trial would uniquely & severely grate on him. Stephanie Grisham, Trump's former WH press secretary, commented on his complaints of the courtroom being cold, saying, 'In his normal world, someone would have jumped up & run, not walked, to get the temperature perfect for him. This entire experience must be beyond uncomfortable for him—not just the fact that it dives into such personal details, but that he has absolutely no control for probably the 1st time since he was a young child.' ”

"When Trump would see disaster strike around the country, it’s the President’s job sign these disaster declarations and send federal aid.. but if a disaster happened in a blue state, Trump saw an opportunity because he was like ‘this is the state where the governor doesn’t like me, people who didn’t vote for me, maybe I don’t sign that disaster declaration or maybe I call up the governor and see if he’s willing to cut me a deal.’ That was his mindset and we saw that happen in several circumstances. We talked him off of it but it’s the type of thing that will happen in a second term."

Tell us, Senator Rubio, HOW DID YOU FALL INTO THE TRUMP TRAP?

And there it is... Trump is, in addition to his other character flaws, a control freak on steriods.

I have a strong feeling this will end the way Trump's impeachments did. No consequences for Trump. Probably be a hung jury and he will claim vindication. Michael Cohen will get screwed over as usual. It's more of an indictment of the justice system that is easily maneuvered by the powerful to delay and get away with pretty much anything. We're still waiting for the Supreme Court to decide if a president has immunity.

I have to believe in this:

"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."

Les,

Bad actors often DO escape justice, but not forever. I am disheartened by my fellow Americans who still support this terrible human being despite all the evidence of his malign deeds and personality disorder.

Trump wanted to know why authorities couldn't just shoot protestors! This is just one example of his despotic thinking and complete ignorance of our Constitutionally guaranteed rights.

And a great many Americans see nothing wrong with putting this monster back in the Oval Office. Just read the comments at Geeez and weep.

Can't make myself go there Shaw. Funny how their thoughts have not evolved with time. During the Viet Nam era you couldn't get a cogent argument from them either. They'd just get mad and yell "don't you understand?" They love Trump cause he "gets it." They can't even explain what he gets. Not without exposing their on bigotry and ignorance of any issue. It's my respect for you as my adopted big sister that keeps me coming here despite to nonsense spewed by our friend from the right with many accounts.

Joe101, You seem to hold our legal system in less regard than I do and that is tough. He will be convicted of something but probably not the majority because the democrat justice department threw everything against the wall hoping something sticks. They would have been far better off focusing on what they can win and they won't win them all.

Dave Miller said...

First to JoeBama... I get it, really I do. However it's great to see you here and I for one hope this is a long ride here after the old "Zone" days.

Skud posits an interesting thought line, that Trump will get tripped up somewhere.

I'm not so sure.

First, DOJ waited way too long to pull the trigger, so to speak. They should have known that Trump would throw every delay tactic in the book and brought their indictments earlier. It appears they were shamed into acting by the Congressional hearings, preferring instead to sit out the Trump drama.

So here we are.

Whether Trump wins or loses the State of NY case, he will not go to jail. Best case scenario? Probation. No judge in America is jailing a former president. Not. A. One. Period.

With that, Trump will crow about his innocence, even if found guilty, all they way to November and the elections. And if he gets off, it will be even worse. Either way I believe he'll win the election and then direct "his" DOJ to drop all the federal cases.

Easy peasy.

So I think Skud is incorrect and JoeBama is more accurate.

Trump will win or lose here in NY. but not go to jail. He will win the election in November. DOJ will drop all charges, and the J6 boys, if not already released by the SCOTUS, will be pardoned.

Me?

I'll be sipping mezcal at my coffee/pastry/mezcal/cigar bar on the beach in southern Mexico, enjoying time with my wife, friends, tlayudas and the warm waters of the Pacific.

And I'll have an extra room if any of you folks want to visit.

I'm pretty sure Trump will lose again. The only issue he had then was Biden is old. People vote against far more often than vote for. The abortion issue should destroy him. Abortion is a personal issue best left to the individual. The people that don't feel that way were going to vote Trump no matter what. It should bring out the occasional voter.

skudrunner said...

Rev, I think the election is a toss up and the one who is the spoiler is RFK, Jr because he will get a portion of the votes. I would say he will take more away from sleepy joe but with so many voters disgusted by the two candidates he will take away from both sides.

Trump does dominate the news in all categories and exposure, good or bad, keeps his name in the minds of the voter. Biden's handlers have two messages, abortion which is a big topic for a minority of voters and trump is bad, bad. His economic recovery message is hollow to most voters because inflation is so high even if he claims it is not his fault. Unless you lost your job due to covid his creating jobs message does not apply. Most informed voters know the jobs created are just recovered jobs from the pandemic and not really created.

It will be a turbulent time come September and your idea of watching from the beach is a good one.
No matter who loses accusations will be rampant just look at looser lake.

My personal hope is the election is won by none of the above.

Tabloid Publisher Testifies Trump Asked Him to ‘Help the Campaign’
The jury heard testimony about what prosecutors say was a conspiracy to bury negative news, including a porn star’s claim of a sexual encounter with Donald Trump.

So, the inevitable is occuring. General acceptace of grift, insurrection, misogyny, infidelity, zenophobia, racism, infringements on individual rights.. especially reproductive and marital, as well as the host of negative character flaws not mentioned here.

America, if Joe and many others are right America has seen its better days and the future will be bleak for those who actually understand what liberty is ans is not...

Skud claims... "Most informed voters know the jobs created are just recovered jobs from the pandemic and not really created."

Really Skud?

Here's what Steve Rattner, who manages both the philanthropic and personal wealth of former GOP Mayor of New York City and worked as the counselor to the Sec Treas in the Obama Admin.

"Over the past three years, the country has gained an average of 410,000 jobs a month; even if jobs added as part of the Covid recovery are excluded, monthly job increases still averaged 289,000 a month. That’s more than the average number of jobs added by any president in history. Indeed, the economy has not lost jobs in any month since Biden took office. Concurrently, the unemployment rate, which was 6.4% when Biden took office, is now 3.7%. Its 24 consecutive months below 4% is the longest such stretch since the late 1960s.

But wait, there's more, as there always is.

Here's a great read from Bloomberg that includes quotes and links from JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas and the CBO. It's a great article on our job growth.

For some reason, almost all of our top US economic analysts disagree with you on whether we've "just recovered jobs from the pandemic" and we've not "really created" any new jobs.

I know you'd never write anything without having the links and evidence to back it up, so I'm willing to be convinced that everyone of the examples I've provided are wrong.

Just post the links for us. Because like all the groups I've cited, I guess we're just a bunch of uninformed voters.

Thanks...

Ms. Shaw, And the FBI withholding information on hunters laptop was OK. Common politics is a dirty game and both sides play with the same dirt. It is We The People who get mud on our face because of our corrupt system.

JoMala "Truth 101" Kelly said...

Politics has been a dirty game since politics was born. That being said, what does Hunter's laptop have to do with the economic stats Dave and Shaw presented Mr. Skuds? An average gain of 400 some thousand jobs a month and the best you can come back with is Hunter's laptop? I guess Hillary's emails have become passe. If you guys need help I can don my righty cap and go to bat for you my friend. It will still of course be nonsense but it will be entertaining with much thought provoking material.

Rev, Lets see what statistics say. Total full time employment March 2024 was 132 Million
Total full time employment 2019 was 130.6 million. Well it looks like you are correct with the employment up 1.4 million in 5 years. Add 28.1 part time employees and you have the biden bidenomics on employment. Of course that figure dropped to 123 million in 2021 due to the government mandated lock down but after all falsi made millions and the dems were celebrated by the teachers union. So by your and joey b's estimates he added 9 million jobs.

Amazing what you can do with statistics. His created more jobs than anyone is in point true but most of those jobs are recovery. You can do a victory lap but people trying to support a family on two jobs will not join you.

Population 2020 331 million,
Population 2023 339 million

JoeB, I was responding to Ms Shaws remark "Tabloid Publisher Testifies Trump Asked Him to ‘Help the Campaign’" Can't see what her post has to do with economics but I think she was trying to make a point about collusion. When the unemployment rate is almost 7% to 15% and 11 to 23 million unemployed there is a lot of upside.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud: "Can't see what her post has to do with economics but I think she was trying to make a point about collusion..."

The point is that Pecker testified UNDER OATH, UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY, that Trump asked him to bury stories about his adulteries in order to help his campaign. That's what's on trial:

Trump is accused of directing a payoff, and then falsifying business records, to cover up a potential sex scandal involving a porn star and an 9-month affair with a playboy bunny.

(Interesting to note: Trump cheated on the women he was having an affair with and had a one-night stand with a porn star, all of that cheating while cheating on his WIFE who just had a baby! Imagine so many Americans wanting that cheating, lying cheater as POTUS again!)

Alvin Bragg, the district attorney in Manhattan, has argued that the case is about something much bigger: that the payment, made to Stormy Daniels, was part of an effort to hide information from voters ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

“It’s an election interference case,”

Trump started his presidency by election interference and ended it in 2021 by election interference -- the January 6 insurrection he incited to overturn a free and fair election!

JoMala "Truth 101" Kelly said...

So the point my good friend Skudrunner is making is that Trump's failures were to make Biden look good. So Biden should be thanking Trump. Feel free to use that on one of the goofball sites if you wish. If JoeC or FJ use it and it gets traced back here they can claim JoeBama is one of their monikers also so they don't get a mean tweet or get banned for quoting a lefty. Just glad to help.

Dave Miller said...

Skud... Yes, as I said, the US has added 3.5 million full time jobs since 2019, right in line with the results since 1990, excepting the 2008 and 2020 recessions.

Add in part time jobs and the numbers look even better.

Just ask Pro Publica.

BTW, please cite your source for your "28.1 part time employees" stat.

Dave Miller said...

Joe, there's no making sense with this crowd...

Here's a little screed from someone commenting on the current Trump, citing an article she "just" saw on FOX. An article reporting on the trial.

"And now THERE ARE MORE THINGS TRUMP DID WRONG and we’re just now hearing about them."

She's upset that as a loyal FOX News and NEWSMAX watcher, she's just now learning that Trump is on trial. How is that humanly possible? There was nothing new. She's just willfully ignorant.

How do we converse with folks like that?

Dave M.

I checked in on the Mother Ship and read this by the Captain:

"MAL, I’m no lawyer but all I’m hearing (except on CNN, where it’s a cottage industry to slam Trump) is there is NO CRIME on the NY Case…. you’re right

MUSTANG: Hoping to remind of the hypocrisy in the sleeping around of JFK and Clinton and Roosevelt, and so many others we may not know about…..but THIS GUY TRUMP MUST GO because of it!?"

They're listening to FAUX NOOZ, and they're using their own powers of "reasoning" to declare that there is no crime in covering up an illicit affair. They really, really think that is all there is to this trial because FAUX NOOZ fed that lie to them, and they didn't bother to look at it any further to find what the crime REALLY is.

Trump is not on trial just for trying to hide two illicit affairs from his 3rd wife who just gave birth. What Trump did is a crime because HE CONSPIRED WITH COHEN AND PECKER TO HIDE INFORMATION FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT WOULD HAVE HAD AN IMPACT ON HIS CANDIDACY. That's election interference and the payoffs involved in covering his adulteries up was falsifying business records, and THAT'S A CRIME IN NEW YORK.

The people on the Mother Ship are ordinary Americans -- older Americans -- who get their information from FAUX NOOZ and Newsmax and believe what those outlets report.

We all know that FAUX NOOZ has admitted that its viewers should not take everything they report seriously, and yet millions of average Americans like the folks who comment at Geeez continue to get their information from unreliable and untruthful cable news sources.
