RUSSIA AND SOCIALISM MORE POPULAR THAN TEA PARTY -- NEW WASHINGTON POST/ABC POLL SHOWS

Shamelessly copied from Green Eagle [who's always a step ahead of us all on important news such as this.]

"Perhaps There's Some Hope

In this news:

'New Washington Post/ABC Poll: Americans View Tea Party Less Favorably Than Russia, Socialism'

The Tea Party scored about the same as Saudi Arabia."

More from firdoglake:

"Americans have been watching the Teabaggers for almost two years now, and as it turns out, unbridled, spittle-producing rage isn’t very popular.

52 percent of Americans now hold unfavorable views of the tea party, a new high. Nearly three-quarters of Democrats – including as many moderate and conservative as liberal members of the party – have negative views of the political movement, as do half of all independents.

Only 35% of Americans like the Teabaggers, about the same number that like Saudi Arabia. Kinda figures. Both love to drill for oil, hate gays, and believe in theocracy.

Russia, on the other hand — the country that Republicans still love to demagogue — has a net-positive 47/45 favorable rating.

As for socialism, it’s viewed favorably by 36% of Americans, a fact which will just make Teabaggers even angrier and crazier."

AND A NEW POLL ON THE ACA THAT THE GOP TRIED TO REPEAL:

"More Americans want to keep the sweeping health care reform legislation passed last year than want to repeal it, according to a new CBS News/New York Times survey. Forty-eight percent of Americans say they want to keep the law in place, while 40 percent want to see it repealed. "

No, I'm sure they haven't read this, they're too busy mocking Mrs. Obama's fashion choices and watching Sarah's favorability numbers tank.

LOL!

I'd much rather party with Russian Socialists.

i guess russia has taken a back seat to the war on terror and the war on drugs.

will there ever be a war on poverty?

Ah, Billy, the only honest man in literature and perhaps America.

There was a war on poverty, and poverty apparently won.

It never occurred to me before to compare Americans' respect for the teabaggers with their respect for the Russians, but it's a valid comparison.

The teabaggers compare Obama to Hitler and Stalin because of garden-variety political differences, and because of tax hikes and a "government take-over" of health care, both of which are imaginary. The Russians had to contend with the actual Hitler and Stalin, with real tyranny and oppression.

It would be interesting to hear some teabagger who claims he's resisting fascism, compare notes with a Russian veteran of Stalingrad. I know which one I'd have more respect for, and that's putting it mildly. Perhaps the same comparison occurred to some of the people who were polled.

More signs of HOPE?

Glenn Beck And Sean Hannity Dropped From Philadelphia Radio Station

"Yesterday, hate radio hosts Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity had their nationally syndicated radio shows dropped from WPHT in Philadelphia, which is the second radio station to drop both of the conservative commentators. The moves were scheduled back in November 2010, and Marc Rayfield, market manager for CBS Radio in Philadelphia and senior vice president, said that WPHT wants to become 'more of a locally based station.'"

I think opposition to the wealthcare bill will go way up when the Medicare cuts and the fines for people who can't afford to pay for health insurance kick in later.

No disrespect meant, perhaps I am misreading this, but it gives me the sense of... Tell the people a lie often enough and eventually they will come to believe it.

I have a problem with socialism in general and more specifically Russian style socialism.

Perhaps I just fail to get the point.

This is America, perhaps it is time we crafted real American style creative solutions to our problems.

Discounting serious conservative thought for knee jerk progressive thought is just as foolish as discounting serious progressive thought for knew jerk conservative thought.

just my two cents worth.

It makes as much sense to say that one has trouble with Russian-style capitalism as socialism: Russia has no form of government recognizable as democracy.

The word "socialism" gets thrown around without any real understanding of it. When applied in Europe -- usually in health care -- it's a matter of pragmatism, not ideology. Ireland has socialized medicine, but the Heritage Foundation ranks Ireland as having more of their definition of economic freedom than the United States...

The ACA does not cut Medicare benefits. In fact, by closing the doughnut hole, it increases them. It does introduce some desperately needed efficiencies, albeit not enough of them to stave off Medicare's severe fiscal problems. These include rewarding value-based care instead of volume of service, encouraging the forming of Accountable Care Organizations, penalizing hospitals with high rates of hospital-acquired conditions, and reducing unnecessary readmissions, and improved outcome reporting measures.

Every one of these is a Good Thing that addresses key areas of inefficiency in the developed world's most inefficient health care system.

The people who pay fines will be those who would rather have extra beer money. There's plenty of assistance for anyone who needs it. That being said, an improvement would be to require insurance companies to base premiums on community ratings and to sell basic health plans on a nonprofit basis.

We should take the ACA for what it is: An important first step on the road to true health care reform.
