Martin Richard

“My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack on Boston. My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries. We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers. I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin. We also ask for your patience and for privacy as we work to simultaneously grieve and recover. Thank you.”

I wish God's comfort and courage for the Richard family, and for their son the grace of peaceful rest especially due innocent children lost to mad, evil violence.

Sickening. The person who did this is truly a monster.

Please don't take this comment in a way unintended by me....

Haven't children died in several attacks here in the United States? To name two such attacks: Oklahoma City and 9/11.

It is recent Internet technology which has placed a face on Martin Richard.

Now, I'm not saying that it's a bad thing to mourn Martin Richard. Not at all!

But I am concerned that technology first puts a face on victims -- a good thing -- but later we as a society become inured to those pictures -- a bad thing.

Perhaps, AOW. And perhaps we'll just become used to this sort of slaughter.

I put up Martin's photo because he and his family were known by people who live in my neighborhood.

NEWSFLASH!:

A NEW explosion -- apparently even worse than the latest Boston Massacre -- has just occurred at a FERTILIZER FACTORY in WACO, TEXAS on the day before the 20th Anniversary of the Wholesale Slaughter of Innocent Women, Children and their Menfolk by Government Thugs ordered by then-Attorney General Janet Reno against The Branch Davidian Compound.

Now isn't THAT a strange coincidence?

"If a piece of the Continent is washed away, Europe is the less.
Ask not for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee."

Mourn for poor little Martin Richards, of course, but in truth the child may be better off than those left behind. I shudder to think of what he undoubtedly would have had to face if he'd lived to maturity.

Humanity banned MURDER thousands of years ago, but that has never deterred determined fiends from wantonly committing senseless slaughter, has it?

We may ban War, ban The Bomb, ban all Guns, ban all Knives, ban Slingshots, ban the stockpiling of Stones, even the use of Clay or Ceramic Flower Pots, Hammers, Saws, Pliers, Garden Shears, Rakes, Hoes, Spades, Shovels, Chains, Pots, Pans, more than one piece of Crockery per person. We can ban the use of Fists, Baseball and Cricket Bats, Sticks, Twigs -- we can ban ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, but it will do nothing to stop the madness.

The "Enemy" IS "Us."

I'll be astonished if someone doesn't bring a bill before congress demanding a ban on the manufacture of FERTILIZER before the week is out.

Let's see what could ban next -- FIRE? GAS STOVES? COOKING OIL? CHARCOAL GRILLS? LAMPS? TABLES? PICTURES? MIRRORS? VASES? TABLES? CHAIRS? KNICK KNACKS? GARDEN STATUES? PRESCRIPTION DRUGS? AUTOMOBILES? AIRPLANES? TRUCKS? TRAINS?

The list could endless, because there is NOTHING that cannot be abused, and NOTHING that cannot be turned into a weapon.

We do not need more LEGISLATION. What we need instead is mental, moral and spiritual REJUVENATION and of goals, values and mores a new PRIORITIZATION.

Shaw,
I was in no way criticizing you for putting up the photo of Martin Richard.

AOW, Oh, I knew that. I was just explaining why I put it up, and not the other victims. I suppose I should have done so.

Anyway. Too bad comments can't convey tone of voice.

I'm beyond horrified:

A haunting image emerged today showing one of the suspected Boston bombers lurking right behind eight-year-old Martin Richard moments before apparently planting the explosive that killed him.

The suspect, named today as 19-year-old Dzhokhar A Tsarnaev, is seen just feet away from the youngster holding a rucksack believed to contain one of two bombs which killed three and injured 176 others.

Martin had been waiting to give his father a big hug to congratulate him for finishing the race, but never got the chance as the twin blasts ripped through the city centre.

Pictures and CCTV images released in the aftermath of the explosions show how Dzhokhar and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev brazenly mingled with the crowds so they could watch the terror unfold before their eyes....

It's a kind of evil I cannot fathom.
