Awesome, except that the ACA was upheld by SCOTUS in June 2012, not 2013.

J.C., and let's not forget what Mitch McConnell told the country was the GOP's first and most important goal:

Making Mr. Obama a one-term president.

How did that work out, Senator McConnell?

Carl Bernstein Slams Media Coverage of the Shutdown:

Longtime journalist Carl Bernstein on Tuesday called on the press to abandon the false equivalence that's colored much of the coverage of the government shutdown.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," the man who helped break the Watergate scandal said that the current budget impasse is not a two-sided matter. "This is about the Republican Party and what it's going to be," Bernstein said.

"Is it going to conduct a fact-based, philosophical argument in our political system or is it going to be nihilistic, hateful, asymmetrical in terms of facts and the truth part of the party, as in Joe McCarthy?"

(…)

"It's about demagoguery and it needs to be viewed that way," Bernstein said.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Thanks (O)CT(O)PUS, I've put up the video you linked to.

Someone had to tear the false mask of "equivalence" off of the media. Let's hope more journalists like Bernstein call the TeaPublicans what they truly are: Anarchists and a menace to the security of the United States.

Right now herpes is more popular with the American people then the teaPUBLICANS. if you can stomach reading any of the con blogs you'll see they're all stamping their feet because the rest of the country sees them as destructive little 2 year olds. luckily this will damage the asshats but good.

Anarchy is what this country was founded on and it is only anarchy if you disagree.

We are now into the current administration saying SS check may be stopped, we will default on our debt. He has been successful at lowering the US rating once so the second time is a non-issue.

Maybe both sides should tell the truth for once and work toward the best interest of the American people. The attitude of I don't care how long the shutdown lasts because we a winning is not wise coming from the "leaders" camp.

With the thousands of non-essential government employees getting a paid vacation you can't why would they want it to end.

skud: "Anarchy is what this country was founded on and it is only anarchy if you disagree."

"Anarchy is what this country was founded on...," says skud--a situation of confusion and wild behavior in which people in the colonies were not controlled by rules or laws--a state of lawlessness due to the absence of governmental authority or any established order.

Then he introduces the possibility that maybe the country was NOT founded on anarchy because if you disagree with some existential "something" --he doesn't say what-- then it wasn't.

This is why the TeaPublican Party is nuts. People who have no grasp of history and who are illogical belong to it.

PS. The French Revolution was an example of anarchy; the American Revolution was an example of rebellion.

And would you tolerate someone coming to your blog and posting all sorts of atheist sayings about nonbelief?

“Religion has convinced people that there's an invisible man ... living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money.”

FACT: Over 800,000 government employees have been furloughed and will not receive a paycheck until the shutdown ends. Many of them have mortgages, medical expenses, college loans, childcare costs, and other bills to pay … and many of them, like so many middle class Americans, live from paycheck to paycheck. For them, this is NO VACATION!

My daughter is a high-ranking officer at the Pentagon, and her husband – my son-in-law – is one of these furloughed government employees. Right now, their income is less than half what it was a week ago, and they are STRUGGLING!

IN FACT....IT DOES RELATE to the Republican stance no matter how much he postulates otherwise...it is Republican intransience that is shutting down our political process. Many are using deflection and misdirection to lay the blame on Obama, or using the lame blame, 'both sides'....but it all comes off like a drunk who beats his children and then blames his wife, cause, 'she pissed me off'.

I am tired of fools.

Agreed. Knowing "fallacious facts" requires faith and the desire to look for instances that support your world view, hoping readers have the same desire to support their world view using your "fallacious facts."

One's pay and position in the new fangled think tanks of the far right merely depends on knowing the fallacious facts and spreading them around thus reinforcing the boss' worldview.

Tea Party (with apologies to Edna St. Vincent Millay)

For what purpose, Tea Party, do you exist?
Legislation is not enough.
You can no longer amuse me with the redness
Of your rage spreading stickily.
I know what I know.
The sun is hot on my neck as I observe
The spite of your leaders.
The stench of your lies is rancid.
It is apparent that there is no reason.
But what does that signify?
Not only under ground are the brains of men
Eaten by maggots.
Your existence in itself
Is nothing,
An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.
It is not enough that since 2010, down this Capitol hill,
you and your insane followers
Come like idiots, babbling and shrieking anarchy .

Party versus patriotism?

There's a rumor floating around. If Boehner allows a CR vote, and a handful of moderate Republicans vote with the Democrats, the rumor is that the GOP may splinter into two parties. Who cares! The country will never accept a party of blackmailers, extortionists, hijackers, and hostage-takers. So Boehner's choice is: Harm the country or harm the party.

I will assume the learn-id people that read this blog know that the government shutdown is Reid's doing at the instruction of Obama.

The house allocated the necessary funds to keep the government running but wanted a delay in Obamacare. Obama and Reid did not get what they wanted so the shut the government down and blamed the GOP as is their norm.

Shaw Kenawe said...

On October 1, 2013, the United States federal government entered a government shutdown, forcing furloughs of 800,000 workers and suspension of services not exempted by the Antideficiency Act.

Because Congress did not enact regular appropriations or a continuing resolution for the 2014 fiscal year, appropriations have lapsed and about 800,000 federal employees were indefinitely furloughed without pay, while another 1.3 million were required to report to work without pay until an appropriations bill is passed or their function is no longer excepted.

A "funding gap" was created when the two chambers of Congress failed to agree to a compromise continuing resolution. The Republican-led House of Representatives, pressured by conservative groups such as Heritage Action, offered a continuing resolution with language delaying or defunding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly known as Obamacare).

The Democratic-led Senate stripped the Obamacare language from their version of the measure. Congress was unable to reconcile the bill, allowed funding to lapse and a full-government shutdown began.

IOW, Anon@3:28 is spreading partisan crap where it is not wanted.

The fact is, Anon, that the A.C.A. was passed by both houses of Congress and litigated by the SCOTUS. It was passed the way all bills become LAW in this Republic.

The problem comes when the psychos in the TeaPublican Party will not accept the American way of governance.

They want it THEIR WAY or no way.

Good for President Obama for not letting a minority of a minority blackmail him and the sane citizens in this country into undoing what the American people elected him to do.

You foolish, destructive mobsters can't accept that Barack Hussein Obama was elected TWICE. TWICE. TWICE. by a comfortable margin by the American people, and by that fact, his programs were voted in, one of which was the A.C.A.

Mitt Romeny promised America to repeal the A.C.A. the day he was elected. The American people kicked his ass to the curb and voted to keep the guy who gave us the A.C.A.

You and the rest of your dishonest zombie-TeaPublicans won't accept the will of the American people, and so you've taken to extorting the American form of government to get concessions the majority of the American people don't want. How do I know? See the election of 2012.

Now please don't bother coming back here to spread more of your horseshit.

Thank you.

And have a nice day.

Shaw Kenawe said...

But just in case you feel compelled to return and leave more of the same, let me allow the redoubable Capt. Fogg of The Swash Zone to set your crooked little mind straight.

Capt. Fogg, responding to another Anonymous commenter over at The Swash Zone, who thinks the TeaPublicans are being resonable:

Take it away Captain:

"One more time, you insisted that this was just a case of two equally valid positions held by intransigent partisans and nothing more. That's not true. ITS A CASE OF THE LAW BEING IGNORED, SCOFFED AT AND OBSTRUCTED BY PARTISANS IGNORING THE DUTIES OF THEIR OFFICE AND BEING PAYED TO DO SO BY PARTIES FOR WHOM THE LAW IS INCONVENIENT. Because this is not true, you are wrong and you lose the argument, if we can call it one.

1. ITS THE GODDAMN LAW PASSED BY CONGRESS, SIGNED BY THE PRESIDENT AND CERTIFIED BY THE SUPREME COURT.

2. YOU DON'T GET TO BARGAIN THE LAW INTO GOING AWAY OR CHANGING. TO SUIT THE PARTY THAT FAILED TO BLOCK IT IN CONGRESS.

3. THE LAW IS NOT OPTIONAL AND APPLIES TO EVERYONE, LIKE IT OR NOT.

4. LEGAL MEANS EXISTS FOR THE REPUBLICANS TO HAVE REPEALED THE LAW BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE VOTES OR THE POPULAR SUPPORT. YOU LOSE MEANS YOU LOST.

THEREFORE, FINALLY AND QUOD ERAT DEMONSTRANDUM, IT IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY MAKING DEMANDS THAT THE LAW BE IGNORED OR ILLEGALLY NULLIFIED BY A PRESIDENT WHO ACTUALLY HAS NO POWER TO DO SO. A demand that the law be implemented is not a partisan position. A demand that the law be ignored is not only a partisan position, it's pissing on Democracy. Even a dust mite can understand this and if you don't it's because you're a partisan parrot and incapable of admitting you've lost this argument because you never had one to argue.

How can I shout it so even the pinhead TeaTwits can understand? The law is, ipso facto a demand. The law is the law, you obey it or else: you pay your taxes whether you like what the government is doing with the money or not.

Of course the answer is that you're not honest and you're not making an honest case or a case consistent with the American system of American values. You're making the same detestable arguments behind the Nullification movement, the Civil war. Is it because you're too damned ignorant or too damned dishonest -- or that you, as I suggested think we're all stupid?

You are free to vote, free to campaign. You are even free to lie, but you are not free to demand that the law be set aside because you or your Confederate friends don't like it.
