On the day after we honored the memory of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr...

...we read this:

Joshua Black, a Republican candidate for Florida House District 68, sent out a tweet on Martin Luther King day calling for President Obama to be hung for “war crimes.”

“I’m past impeachment,” Black wrote on Twitter. “It’s time to arrest and hang him high.”

Chris Latvala, a fellow Republican running for Florida House District 67, replied via Twitter:

“You aren’t seriously calling for the killing of Obama are you? I know you are crazy but good heavens. U R an embarrassment.”

Joshua Black:  “He should be executed for treason,” Black said. “I think the appropriate punishment is death. They killed Benedict Arnold. (Obama) shouldn’t be allowed to kill Americans without a trial.”

Latvala later tweeted to Black that he should “go take his medicine.”

Black responded that he isn’t “intimidated” by the Secret Service and called Latvala a “criminal politician.”

I read trash similar to this every day on rightwing blogs.

(But...but...Sarah Palin says Mr. Obama should stop "playing the race card!")

It is one thing to have ordinary people saying such things on blogs, but to have someone running for office on the state level for a major political party is say such things is amazing.

Oh how the republicans have fallen! The Grand Old Party is not so grand anymore.

Jerry, he's not the only Gee Oh Pee-er to brashly suggest such treasonous actions.

well, Mr. Black sure has his facts together. Benedict Arnold died in London in 1801.

Sarah who?>

Blessed are the idiots for they amuse us greatly.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Happily, this particular idiot, Joshua Black, will have a very brief political career. The point is, though, why does the Gee Oh Pee-ers attract these ninnyhammers.

Sounds out there beyond the edge.
Checked out his campaign site and
understandably, he is an evangelical fundie. Prior to his
murderous rant, I found this quote
among his statements:
"Republicans have a serious communication problem. Everything we say sounds like spears."
...yep.

Off topic:

Some person who doesn't know the difference between "Ladies" and "Lady's" wrote a hilarious diatribe about the " 'Progressive' Ladies"[sic] blog. Some of this hilarity was stolen from HERE, but when the writing veers into illiteracy, we know it's the person angry with the "Progressive Ladies" blog.

It's been a difficult few days here at P.E. for reasons I won't go into, and we're looking at having to deal with yet another snow storm. But thank you Anonymous person who hates the "Progressive Ladies" blog for giving me something to smile about.

Oh, yes, this. You're having a sad because you claim I've lost readership?

According to my counter, I average about 500 views a day. When I started this blog I averaged about 10 a day.

The highest number of views was 1,500 on one recent post.

So you needn't have a sad for me Anonymous person who hates the "Progressive Ladies" blog.

PS. Only one "Lady" writes this blog.

Ironic that Mr. Black is indeed black?

"Florida got the most of them,
Boy they've got a host of them ..."
(with apologies to Frank Zappa)

At least we know that the Cuckoo Bananas Party is indeed inclusive.

"In subsequent tweets, Black clarified that Obama should first be convicted of treason by the U.S. Senate and jury. He also later issued an apology — for slandering Benedict Arnold."

Joshua Black: Part of the Republican Party's "Outreach to Minorities" program. They must've figured that if a black guy called for another black guy's lynching, then that'd be "fair and balanced."

He makes Alan West look sane.

I see him up in the polls in Floriduh.

This story gets weirder and weirder. Joshua Black's Democratic opponent's name is Dwight Dudley.

I think Dudley should do right and call the [Joshua] Black guy out!

Wait. He has. And man is he ANGRY!

Dudley:

"It's dangerous and unbecoming for someone who wants to lead to call for such violence and extremist action," he said. "Wow. I'm stunned."

I just don't understand why the GOP wastes the REALLY STRONG candidates like Joshua Black on a house race???

Shouldn't he be going for the Senate?

Maybe a vp pick, even, for 2016?

Cruz/Black

I think the GOP has a winnah!

The Bob McDonnell case looks interesting.

WASHINGTON, Dec 31 (Reuters) - The company at the heart of a scandal involving the Virginia governor's promotion of one of its dietary supplement products, has received a warning from the Food and Drug Administration, the agency said on Tuesday.

The FDA sent a letter to Star Scientific Inc on Dec. 20, saying it was making claims on its website about the supplement, Anatabloc, that would require its approval as a drug, the FDA said on its website.

Star Scientific has been at the center of a scandal involving Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell, a Republican whose term ends next month.

Federal authorities are investigating the relationship between McDonnell and Star Scientific founder and former Chief Executive Jonnie Williams Sr, who sought state help promoting Anatabloc.

... Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, a Republican, also apologized in September for accepting about $18,000 in gifts from Williams and gave that amount to a charity.

Those scamps.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Yes, Ducky, this is another real scandal involving Republicans.

But look! Over there!

Obama said something about RACE!

BB-Idaho said...

The McDonnell affaire adversely
affected Star Scientific as well;
thecompany ceo has stepped down and they are seeking to change their name.
The produce an odd product, a skin cremm which contains a nictotine homolog derived from tobacco...supposedly an anti
inflammatory, but unproven, eliciting a warning to the company by the FDA.

Shaw Kenawe said...

BB-Idaho,

It's difficult to believe the Republican governor could have entangled himself into something as common and corrupt as this.

And yet, he did.

As usual, the low-IQers on the right get it exactly wrong:

Obama blames racism for his Bad Approval ratings

“There’s no doubt that there’s some folks who just really dislike me because they don’t like the idea of a black president,”
Same excuse different day.
What a pathetic scumbag!

Obama's actual quote:

“There’s no doubt that there’s some folks who just really dislike me because they don’t like the idea of a black president,” Obama said in the article by David Remnick, appearing in the magazine’s Jan. 27 edition.

“Now, the flip side of it is there are some black folks and maybe some white folks who really like me and give me the benefit of the doubt precisely because I’m a black president,” Obama said in his most direct comments on how race has affected his political standing since he’s been in office.

Perfectly reasonable observation.

But the morons who have no understanding about anything and who are driven by stupidity and hatred will deliberately misunderstand.

Coriolanus,

This is a perfect quote from Shakespeare's play "Coriolanus" that applies to the crazy wingers:

"What's the matter, you dissentious rogues,
That, rubbing the poor itch of your opinion,
Make yourselves scabs?"

RN: "Alan West is sane. The fact you and others disagree with him does not make him otherwise.

There was, is, and never will be anything sane about a man who barely escaped prosecution as a war criminal. There is nothing sane about a man who accuses 80+ colleagues in Congress - who just happen to be Democrats - of being communists. And nothing sane about a man who advocates the outright oppression of women and regards them as little more than cattle.

Frankly, I am getting damn sick and tired of pandering, polemics, smear and jeer without end, and the ugly McCarthy streak that runs in GOP politics.

I find it incomprehensible how one political party can attract so many demagogues, each trying to outdo the other with mindlessly intemperate speech.

RN, you totally miss the point of this post.

Ummmmmm...Just for the Record? Benedict Arnold was NOT killed. The British made him a Colonel, gave him 6000 pounds sterling and lifetime pension of 360 pounds sterling.

It sure would be nice if these RW asses could at least get the historical context correct.

DerFarm said...

Correction: The British made Arnold a GENERAL, not a colonel.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Thank you DerFarm for your input.

People like Joshua Black generally don't care about facts, they care only for the attention their stupid tweets or rants attract.

What's good about this incident is that Joshua Black's brief political career is over.

No, sir, I most certainly do NOT. My comment was NOT motivated by an intolerance to other opinion. What I find incomprehensible are conflicting views and inconsistencies from the same commenter, i.e. blowing hot and cold, seemingly rational on alternate days while decidedly partisan on even days. One never knows what you believe from one moment to the next.

RN: “Well Rusty [responding a comment that refers to the Fort Lee traffic jam as a “tempest in a teapot”], given the media attention and negative posts on many sites I'd have to say, YES” (Tue Jan 14, 03:27:00 PM EST).

RN: “if the investigation conclusively shows that Christie was aware of and sanctioned the actions that resulted in the four day long lane closures then he deserves to be toast and his political aspirations shattered … He does not deserve an automatic pass" (Wed Jan 15, 04:33:00 AM EST).

Since I doubt you can see your own inconsistency, I’ll spell it out for you: You assume Christie’s innocence in one reflexive, knee jerk comment; then more cautiously and thoughtfully concur that an investigation is warranted.

The title of your post implies a different attitude: As the Liberal/Progressive Media and Blogosphere Attempt To Destroy Governor Chris Christie.

In other words, here is one more imagined liberal plot to smear Christie, when in fact this is a story with legs having profound implications regarding abuses of power. So which is it? Is Christie innocent? Or guilty? Is the Fort Lee incident an abuse of power? Or a tempest in a teapot? Or both depending upon context, commenter, or how you feel from moment to moment … as you bang words together without forethought as to consistency or meaning. No, the issue here has nothing to do with some inordinate need of mine to have you agree with me. The question is: Can you agree with yourself? Do you know your own mind?
