National embarrassment and publicity hog,

George Zimmerman, has had his pathetic dream of making money off of the death of his victim, teenagerTreyvon Martin, cancelled.

So there's reason to believe there is some hope for this celebrity-crazed culture, and perhaps Zimmerman will finally descend into the ignominy he so richly deserves.

"A victory was earned today for the memory of Trayvon Martin, as promoter Damon Feldman announced today that due to public outrage, the George Zimmerman celebrity boxing match has been canceled."

 Feldman tweeted:

"Featuring George Zimmerman in the ring fighting an African American opponent was an attempt to exploit racial tensions for profit. It was also the height of disrespect to Trayvon Martin.

Turning a young man’s murder into a cash grab was wrong. Zimmerman said that he would donate his cut of the purse to charity, but he still stood to profit off of the fight.

It is obvious that Zimmerman is looking for ways to cash in on killing Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman wants to advance his celebrity, and the media attention that he would have gained from this fight would have done exactly that.

Only a group of heartless sociopaths could cook up a scheme like this, but hundreds of thousands of people stood up for decency. You said no. You put the pressure on, and you were successful.

It looks like George Zimmerman is going to have to get a regular job to pay his bills, because millions of Americans aren’t going to let him make money off of the fact that he shot and killed Trayvon Martin."

The right-wingers made Zimmerman into a national hero before they actually knew anything about his wretched character. Now they're stuck with their worship of a POS.

Anon, your blanket stereotypical statement is bullshit.

Having said that this fiscal conservative is QUITE pleased Zimmerman won't be cashing in.

Let the low life dig sewers to support himself and pay his bills.

OK, so I can see preventing Zimmerman from trying to profit off murder. I just want to be clear on that.

But, are you kidding? This is DMX. Five years ago, he was in prison, and beat up a prison guard because he didn't appreciate the food.

He would've been up against Zimmerman, who:
a. would not have had a gun, and
b. would not have been facing an unarmed teenager.

Assuming Zimmerman lived, he would've left behind a video of the most embarrassing beating anyone has ever taken in the history of mankind.

It would've been a slaughter. And I might even have watched it, just to get the chance to giggle like a psychotic schoolgirl.

N.C. even though we've missed the chance to see G.Z. properly humiliated in front of the country, we're still happy the publicity hog will not make money off of a tragedy.

RN, see above. I think G.Z. is having problems trying to pay off his legal bills, so he was desperate to do anything. Or he's just a tasteless publicity hog.

S.T., many, not all, right-wingers supported G.Z. during the Treyvon Martin trial, and I agree that most of them refused to see what a troubled human being he is. Since the trial, he's been in the news several times for embarrassing reasons. IMO, he'll continue to make a fool of himself until he gets some psycho-therapy.

I vote both Shaw.

Oh, another thing, perhaps Zimmerman would be a logical candidate for a frontal lobotomy?

Good news. Couldn't happen to a more deserving creep.

Although I would have preferred a prison sentence, the prospect of DMX beating the "celebrity" out of George Zimmerman has - shall we say - a certain appeal.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Yes, it does, (O)CT(O), but Zimmerman would have still made lots of money out of his humiliation, and that's why I'm glad it was cancelled. I'm fairly certain another opportunity for Zimmerman to make an ass of himself is in the future.

I think the proposed match was, well, obscene. As was the trial verdict. And the Iraq war...

...but I am not adverse to a boxing match....say Rush Limbaugh and Dennis Rodman. lip to lip action....

Perhaps the match should go on:
proceeds to charity. Bong-Round 1
Zimmerman, stand your ground.

RN: Having said that this fiscal conservative is QUITE pleased Zimmerman won't be cashing in.

But he already has cashed in. He has other schemes besides this boxing thing. Zimmerman is also an "artist" who sold one of his paintings for mucho dinero. A Time story reports the following...

"Watch out, George W. Bush. Another man has joined the former president atop the list of America's most beguiling painters: George Zimmerman".

The story says Zimmerman "sold a blue, latex paint illustration of the American flag with the text God One Nation with Liberty and Justice For All for $100,099.99 on the auction site eBay".

His latest painting, titled "Angie", is a red and orange illustration of the special prosecutor involved in his case, Florida State Attorney Angela Corey. (The AP says it is a copy of one of their photos and is demanding Zimmerman cease and desist).

According to the Time article, Zimmerman's art is "primitive" and "appalling". "Andrew Russeth, art critic for the New York Observer [said] It looks like someone is doing paint by number".

In response to a possible lawsuit, Zimmerman tweeted the following...

No worries AP, I'll just take whatever U sue me for off your tab when I'm done suing you :-)

Shaw Kenawe said...

Zimmerman's flag "painting" was a steal from an already designed poster of the flag.

He's just a publicity-seeking gnome.

re: the last few comments. I am not as astute, legally, as some, but wouldn't the Martin family have recourse, ala OJ Simpson case, to sue Zimmerman in civil court for wrongful death. Burden of proof is less rigid.

anyone know?

okjimm,
If not a civil suit, perhaps an uncivil Halloween suit that will scare the bejeezus out of him.

okjimm: [couldn't] the Martin family... sue Zimmerman in civil court for wrongful death.

I don't know if this is the latest news, but this story from 4/5/2013 says "Trayvon Martin's family has reached a settlement in a wrongful death suit they filed against the homeowners association of the sub-division where Martin was killed ... [the settlement] figure is believed to be in excess of $1 million. The settlement does, however, state that Zimmerman is not part of the agreement. Lawyers for Martin's family have made it clear that they still plan to file a civil claim against Zimmerman at a later point".

Another article from 7/18/3013 says "Stand Your Ground... presents a significant hurdle to proving Zimmerman's liability for Martin's death... According to the statute... a person whose self defense claim is found lawful is immune from... civil action...".

If they did bring a lawsuit "it could... lead to the Martin family owing money to the man who killed their son" if the judge ruled Zimmerman was immune.

You're point is Mr. Sanders? Other than your usual attempt to beat a dead horse or start a new argument

Good night Bonzo...

Dervish Z Sanders said...

RN, your (and dmarks') lame putdown of beating dead horses is fine for your blog (where you're in charge), but why are you attempting to export it to other blogs? I don't even know what the hell you're talking about.

My first reply was on topic and my second comment was to answer a question by okjimm. As far as quoting you goes... I only did that because you talked about cashing in, and I had just read the "Zimmerman artist" story.

That was my point... that he IS cashing in (100k for a paint-by-number "work of art" isn't bad).

Given that my comment could in no way be characterized as you attempted to characterize it - and the fact that I'll bet everyone else got what my point was - I'll assume you meant to write "good night bozo" and you were talking to yourself.

D Sanders....thanks for the info.

My understanding was that the jury was disposed to convicet..but because of the wording of the 'stand your ground'..the acquited.

I still believe that had the race roles been reversed...there would have been a solid conviction.

Similair statues in othe states need strong revision. It is another of those situations where a minority now feels justified in using extreme violence, lethal violence, when at all confronted.

I am loathe to complain to the neighbors for repeated excessive noise.
