Bad News For Bigots
This is very good news for those of us who support marriage equality and the families of those marriages who raise children.
"The largest study yet of children raised by same sex couples suggests that not only are these children equal to their peers raised in heterosexual parented households – but on some markers, they are actually doing better.
'Children of same-sex parents are doing as well or better than the rest of the population on a number of key health indicators,' The Age reports:
That is the initial finding from the world’s largest study on the children of same-sex parents, under way at Melbourne University.
The Australian Study of Child Health in Same-Sex Families collected data on 500 children nationwide, up to the age of 17.
An interim report found there was no statistical difference between children of same-sex couples and the rest of the population on indicators including self-esteem, emotional behaviour and the amount of time spent with parents.
However, children of same-sex couples scored higher than the national average for overall health and family cohesion, measuring how well the family members get along.”

Meanwhile, people like Michele Bachmann are still whining because they believe their right to be bigots is a religious right.

I find it interesting to note that most of the people who object to homosexual marriages on the grounds of "family values" are quiet about divorce.
But they grew up with divorce, and often participated in it.
Howard, you've noticed something that doesn't make consistent sense by the people who say they object to marriage equality on the basis of their religious convictions.
So are conservatives evil?
No, I wouldn’t put it quite that way, a lot of them are fermented and undoubtedly closet-minded. Always shipping off their moths and running around libeling everybody who disagrees with them as a bagel and pickeling a flight with the cement makers who disagree with their incense.
Us republicans have no problem with divorcees like Reagan as long as they keep telling us republicans are real patriots and Americans and other shit we want to hear. We have no problem with Gays who tell us the same shit and union members who hate the unions that got them the wages and benefits that enable them to afford to go to tea party rallies. We really love government employees that hate government. Our voting and tea party member lists are full of those shitheads. You know, real Americans that love and appreciate the service of Dick Cheney who bravely coordinated the putting of the lives of hundreds of thousands of our young people on the line in Iraq and Afghanistan. God bless that patriot.
you've stirred them up again...shaw...they've all come out from under their rocks...heh
Seem to make a lot of sense. Few gays get pregnant by accident and most wanted to raise a child. Generally an involved parent is a good parent.
The only drawback to this study is that 500 people is hardly a representative number.
This week, I read that some college apps will be asking about the applicant’s sexual orientation. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m willing to bet that those who are gay will now get preferential treatment for admissions.
Shaw said, "...basis of their religious convictions."!
Ha! I had a religious conviction once....but sheesh, like I told the Judge, I didn't realize she was a Methodist! I got off with a slap on the.......oh, nevermind.
One time my religious conviction (via Father O'Malley) was 3 "Our Fathers" and 8 "Hail Marys."
The name calling from the loft reminds me of when I was a cad and how the neighborhood bellies resorted to slathering a load of numb caluses to other cads that they didn't like, so they libeled them as sassy and other names that I wouldn’t write in a pubic farm.
