Planned Parenthood Killer Apprehended

Planned Parenthood Shooting Suspect Robert Lewis Dear Apprehended

At least one police officer and two others have been killed and nearly a dozen wounded after a man reportedly armed with an AK-47 hit a Colorado Planned Parenthood. At 11:38 AM on Friday, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of an active shooter situation at the local Planned Parenthood clinic. According to a suspect description relayed over the police scanner, the shooter was a white man with a “white beard,” wearing a long coat and a hunting hat with flaps on the side.

The man allegedly behind the shooting was later identified as Robert Lewis Dear, 59. Over seven hours later, after the shooter had been apprehended, CSPD spokesperson Lieutenant Catherine Buckley conveyed the tragic news: one University of Colorado police officer and two civilians were dead. Several more had been injured. What occurred in the interim was a horrific, hours-long standoff between the armed man inside the clinic and police outside of it.

Robert Lewis Dear, cop killer, and hero to the Christians on the right who are praising his killing spree at Planned Parenthood.

Christian Conservatives Celebrate Colorado Planned Parenthood Shooting
by Michael Stone

Some anti-abortion Christian conservatives are celebrating the shooting at a Colorado Planned Parenthood that left three people dead and nine others injured. Calling the shooter, Robert Lewis Dear, a hero for attacking the Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado, some social conservatives came out on social media to declare their support for what appears to be a terrorist attack inspired by anti-abortion propaganda promoted by the GOP and Christian conservatives. The following is a selection of depressing if not surprising social media posts praising the Planned Parenthood shooting:

It obviously wasn't terrorism - the perpetrator was white!

I wonder if Carly Fiorina and the rest of the right wing PP haters are happy that their hateful rhetoric and lies got a Colorado cop and others killed by a white terrorist.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Howard, it is curious that a black man walking AWAY from the police (he did have a 2 or 3 inch knife he used to slash tires) was slaughtered with 16 bullets in 15 seconds, but this white brute in Colorado, who killed a cop and at least two other people, was taken into custody unharmed.

I wonder what the difference was between these two cases.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Anon @9:34 those people never think they should be responsible for their hateful rhetoric, even if it inspires domestic terrorists.

I wonder what the difference was between these these two cases.

No doubt The Stench Trench would have an answer to that question.

The shooter is white, wheewww!

Ducky's here said...

Where do you start?

1. The proliferation of guns in the culture.

2. Fiorina's stirring up the base with lies.

3. Hate sites like Breitfart publishing the doctored videos.

Yet I am certain that there will be a right wing effort to spin this
into a narrative about Planned Parenthood.
They are never responsible.

Les Carpenter said...

Ulimate responsibility rests with the psychotic individual who pulled the trigger. The Breitfart types are accessories before and after the fact.

This problem is cultural as well as structural/institutional. Both components must be corrected for effective resolution. Just chipping away at one and ignoring the other seems a 1/2 effort.

Doing something may be better than doing nothing but lets do it the right and address both facets.

Whatever happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ?

Conservatives On Social Media Call The Planned Parenthood Shooter A ‘Hero’

Their hero killed a cop and two other people. Imagine them calling an African-American shooter who killed a cop a hero?

When we say the Rabid Righties are crazy, that's not an attack; that's a fact.

Cop killer HERO?!

RN: "No doubt The Stench Trench would have an answer to that question."

Stench Trench? More accurately called the Shit Pit, IMO, or the Shyte Blight for people who are more PC. The inmates of the Shit Pit aren't PC at all, so I'm sure they'd prefer that one.

Les Carpenter said...

In this case rabid christian fundamentalist righties. I intentionally did not capitalize christian because those folks are not Christian.

Infidel753 said...

Muslims worldwide condemned the Paris terrorist attack. Now, extremist Christians (sorry, RN, but they are), hail their terrorist as a hero.

"Everything I need to know about Christianity, I learned from Colorado 28-11-2015."

But of course, to rabid right wingers, killing cops while attacking Planned Parkenthood doesn't count as terrorism .. They'll happily excuse this right wing cop killer because: fetuses!! Their philosophy must be this: if cops have to die while we make a statement about a lawful medical procedure so what? Jesus supports the killing of cops while we protect fetuses!!!

Les Carpenter said...

Infidel753, why do you assume I do not see them as extremists? You do know what assume results in, right? Furthermore, I have no religious affiliation; I am an atheist. Surprised you haven't figured that out already.

Infidel753 said...

RN: OK, enough of this bullshit.

You said: I intentionally did not capitalize christian because those folks are not Christian.

Note the words: "these folks are not Christian".

I said: extremist Christians (sorry, RN, but they are),

You told a flagrant, intentional lie by saying "these folks are not Christian."

I pointed out that you told a flagrant, intentional lie; that is, I pointed out that they are, in fact, Christian.

You are now pretending that you misunderstood what I said, by pretending to believe I was accusing you of denying that they were extremists. You know as well as everyone else that I was actually affirming that they are Christians, thus pointing out your lie that they are not Christians.

It is literally not possible that you are stupid enough to have misunderstood what I said in the way you pretended to misunderstand it.

Oh, and I have long known that you're an atheist, and nothing I've said here suggests otherwise, so your implication that I did is essentially another lie.

Shaw, sorry to belabor this point at such length, but it's necessary. RN is a master of the right-wing troll techniques of feigned misinterpretation and misdirection. I've had it with this nonsense. Time to tell the plain truth.

Colorado Springs Shooting Suspect Robert L. Dear Colorado Springs Police Department
But the sources stressed that Dear said many things to law enforcement and the extent to which the "baby parts" remark played into any decision to target the Planned Parenthood office was not yet clear. He also mentioned President Barack Obama in statements."

---------
I'm going out on a limb and saying that the videos and Fiorina's lies had a lot to do with
trigering this guy.

12 casualties and 8 of them police.
Even the high number of police casualties isn't slowing the right wing response.
Some actually feel this is justified.

Carson's and Cruz's responses should be especially enlightening.

From ThinkProgress -

"As of Friday night, none of the 14 Republican candidates had mentioned the shooting. President Obama has also not issued a formal statement at that point, though White House officials released a statement on Friday afternoon saying that Obama had been briefed on the situation.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), for example, sent out a tweet about his campaign merchandise.

Of course Obama has since made a statement.
Hillary and Bernie had also made statements. All expressing sympathy and also support for PP.

Further, I could not give a flying f**k that you erroneously perceive I lied.

Irony and sarcasm are, all too often, misunderstand forms of discourse. What is the difference in saying “this Christian is not behaving in a Christian-like manner” versus simply saying “the person is a hypocrite!” There are few shades of difference in meaning; yet an argument ensues over semantics. Frankly, the matter strikes me as a temper tantrum in a teapot.

So typical of humanoids: You can’t even agree on how to agree; yet look for any excuse to be disagreeable.

Humanoids: Pay attention! Sometimes you need to allow a little wiggle room for mood swings — and let people express their sorrow or their outrage in response to tragedy — each in their own way. If you humanoids can't even agree on minor stuff, how do you expect have any kind of future! Key words: Empathy, tolerance, and mutuality.

As friends in this forum over many years, I think Infidel owes RN an apology, and RN should accept. Fair enough?

Too much leftover chimpanzee DNA, I say.

The reality is that the extremist Christians, like any extreme religious sect, pick and choose which laws they will obey. Look at their reaction to the SCOTUS's decision on marriage equality. They defied the law and made themselves out to be victims and martyrs. They've been doing the same thing since Roe v Wade. Fighting against settled law. Like all extremist religionists, they believe they are doing their god's work by defying the law, and in doing so they've encouraged terrorists to kill. Which makes this all the more ridiculous -- they claim they're saving lives by killing people. Fanatics never understand their hypocrisies. Not a word about the living babies and children who are killed each year in the US by irresponsible gun owners, because 2nd Amendment rights are inviolate. That law they love. And it doesn't matter how many living babies and children are killed because of it.

Les Carpenter said...

@ Robert D - Egg-zack-lee! To paraphrase Barry Goldwater for this situation extremist fundamentalists would say Extremism in the pursuit of god's work is no vice. The big irony is that they fail to recognize the similarities with extreme fundamental Islam.

But, their Sh*t Pitters came here and copied it and are using it against Shaw's blog. Not surprised, They're too stupid to come up with a name on their own, so they steal whatever they think is really, really good. they can't seem to stay away fromn Shaw's blog and they copy everything she and her commenters post, because they're too stupid to come up with ideas on their own. At least they show a teeny bit of class by coming to a blog as smart as this one and copying whatever they see here that they obviously admire.

Imitation and copying is the sincerest form of flattery. They really really like shaw's blog.

They're playing off The Stench Trench moniker they were given. Simply their way of playing one upmanship. Their childish antics are quite hilarious actually.

There are few if any non bigoted, non racist, or non idiotic statements made by The Stench Trench crowd. Representing the worst of the worst they are a proud lot.

Marco Rubio: 'Ignore' Gay Marriage Decision Because 'God's Rules Always Win'

Can anyone tell me the difference between the statement made by Rubio and "Allahu Akbar?"

Dave Miller said...

Hank... to be fair, Rubio never said "Ignore" the gay marriage decision.

The Washington Post quotes him as saying we should respond by "Not ignoring it, but trying to change the law."

He did say we should ignore a law that causes us to personally sin, opining about a pastor being forced to marry a gay couple or stop preaching the Gospel.

I'm no fan of Rubio, but we can at least try and be accurate.

Call Me Hank said...

What does "God's rules always win" mean? Does it mean that if a civil law is in conflict with a religion's law that believes in a particular god, that civil law can be ignored? Because God's law always wins? There is more than one religion in this country, in fact, Hinduism believes in many gods, and in some religions eating animals is a sin. Here's how a pluralistic society like ours with many gods and religions should handle this problem: if you don't like abortions, don't get one, if you don't like gay marriage, don't gay marry, if your religion is against eating a particular food, don't eat it. IOW follow your own relion's rules as you wish, but don't demand those who are not your fellow religionists or no religion to agree with your god's rules. We are a secular country, not a Christian country.

Call Me Hank said...

Oh I forgot this: If you strongly believe that a legal medical procedure is an evil and is a sin against your god, then get it changed the legal way, through overturning the law, not by influencing people to shoot and kill cops. I haven't read one single far right blog write a thing about the cop who was murdered or the cops who were wounded by this anti-abortion, Obama hating killer. they're always the first to try to out-police-love anyone else on the internet when a cop is killed. This time? Nothing. I've seen nothing. Why is that? One reason could be that they see nothing wrong with killing cops in the service of destroying Planned Parenthood. Just a theory, but it certainly smells like they're okay with terrorists as long as they terrorize what they hate.

Dave, I deleted that comment from Anonymous about Kinzinger because I found it was from a satire site. I'll have to go back to comment moderation. I tried leaving the comment section open, but got a lot of spam and trolls. I deleted Anon's comment, and by accident yours as well. Sorry. I've been checking in only sporadically. I've been with family during the holiday weekend.

Dr. Brain Surgeon, I've enjoyed you funny comments in the past, but this latest one is over the top. Not all Christians, or what you call Crusaders for Christ, think cop killers are heroes! Come on guys. Can we try to be above this sort of thing?

thanks.

Words matter. When we dehumanize people – when we call them demons, monsters, and murderers – we make it easier for others to do them harm. Let’s not pretend that we don’t know that.[...]

The culture of hate against Planned Parenthood – an organization that serves mostly low-income women and provides legal, safe medical services – is so extreme that some felt it entirely appropriate to express their glee over the shootings on Friday, claiming that the people hurt had it coming. And while the gunman was still in the building, Representative Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois, went on CNN to criticize the organization, saying, “We saw those barbaric videos, and that was something many of us have a legitimate concern about.”

There are certain Rabid Right Wing blogs that host and encourage this culture of hate against Planned Parenthood.

Re the RN/Infidel disagreement... RN said "these folks are not Christian", but I'm not quite sure why RN (as an atheist) would care if Christians who condemn this terrorist act were slandered by being associated with christians who approve of this terrorist act. Would he also argue that "radical Muslims" aren't Muslims? I, as a self-identified Liberal Christian Democrat, agree with him on the former as well as the later (if he holds that consistent opinion).
