Lawfare's Benjamin Wittes: DONALD TRUMP It’s Time: Congress Needs to Open a Formal Impeachment Inquiry

(Still in the process of packing, moving, and unpacking.)

Please go to Infidel753's blog and read his indepth analysis:   "Some thoughts on impeachment."

Then read Benjamin Wittes' article from Lawfare below.

It’s Time: Congress Needs to Open a Formal Impeachment Inquiry

Last Tuesday, the New York Times published a foggy story noting that Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell "has mused about whether Mr. Trump will be in a position to lead the Republican Party into next year’s elections and beyond."

The time for musing has passed. It’s now time to begin a serious conversation about the impeachment and removal of President Trump by opening a formal impeachment inquiry.

The evidence of criminality on Trump’s part is little clearer today than it was a day, a week, or a month ago. But no conscientious member of the House of Representatives can at this stage fail to share McConnell’s doubts about Trump’s fundamental fitness for office.

As the Trump presidency enters its eighth month, those members of Congress who are serious about their oaths to "support and defend the Constitution" must confront a question. It’s not, in the first instance, whether the President should be removed from office, or even whether he should be impeached. It is merely this: whether given everything Trump has done, said, tweeted and indeed been since his inauguration, the House has a duty, as a body, to think about its obligations under the impeachment clauses of the Constitution—that is, whether the House needs to authorize the Judiciary Committee to open a formal inquiry into possible impeachment.

It’s not a hard question. Indeed, merely to ask it plainly is also to answer it.

Thanks for the link!

Enough "other shoes" have dropped on this to provision a centipede; the Republicans in Congress must surely realize by now that it will never get any better, as long as Trump is in the White House. It's a question of how soon their concerns about the hard-core Trumpanzees' reaction to impeachment are overridden by the sheer impossibility of subjecting the country to another three and a half years of this chaos, incompetence, drama, floundering, Twitter-tantrums, and dangerous international brinkmanship. Surely it can't be much longer.

Russiagate is coming together, piece by piece. But on some wingnut sites the posters are still telling each other that "there's no evidence" and "the Russia narrative has collapsed" and it's all "fake news". When reality finally intrudes in the form of actual Articles of Impeachment, we'd better be ready for a hundred Charlottesvilles across the country. These people don't do introspection.

It is possible, even probable, "those people" may not know what introspection mean's. I'd like to believe I'm wrong, but...

DJT needs to resign so Pence can get his agenda through because it is not going to happen with Trump as president.

Russiagate is a ruse but the fact is he cannot get out of his won way and probably never will means he cannot get anything done. He is fighting a battle he cannot win. The media is all about destroying him and the entire congress fears him because he wants them to do their jobs. We don't have a democrat or republican party, we have a unified party of crooks who want things to not change so they can keep their jobs and earn millions.

That is a no win combination.

That's what the Liar-in-Chief told tells his sheeple, and that's what they believe.

You actually think that Robert Mueller, the FBI and the dozens of investigators are on a fake investigation? A ruse?

As I've said many times before, you and your conferers at those rabid right wing blogs are terminal cases. There's no reason for anyone to try to reason with people who are living in an alternate universe of lies and self-deception.

The media aren't destroying Trump, they report on what he's said and done, and that's what's "destroying" the malignant narcissist and liar.

Where have all the intelligent, ethical, rational conservatives gone?

Answer... They reside in slightly red tint or blue states, .
