TRUMP OPENS GOVERNMENT FOR 3 WEEKS -- NO WALL

Trump Agrees to Reopen Government for 3 Weeks in Surprise Retreat From Wall

WASHINGTON — President Trump agreed Friday to reopen the federal government for three weeks while negotiations proceeded over how to secure the nation’s southwestern border, backing down after a monthlong standoff failed to force Democrats to give him billions of dollars for his long-promised wall. The decision paved the way for Congress to pass spending bills as soon as Friday that Mr. Trump will sign to restore normal operations at a series of federal agencies until Feb. 15 and begin paying again the 800,000 federal workers who have been furloughed or forced to work for free for 35 days.

The plan includes none of the money for the wall that he had demanded and was essentially the same approach that Mr. Trump rejected at the end of December, meaning he won nothing concrete during the impasse.

Trump "won nothing concrete during the impasse," but he did manage to make hundreds of thousands Americans miserable. He's a weak, incompetent, and ineffectual POTUS who has shown he cares nothing for "the forgotten Americans."

Pelosi showed everybody who's the boss now! The commenters on the right-wing sites are in a fury. They know who won and who lost.

I wouldn't worry about Coulter. She's a self-promoter who thrives on whipping up hysteria. This is just one more opportunity for her to steal a bit of the spotlight by out-outraging everybody else.

In three weeks Hair Furor Agolf Twitler will have a decision to make (assuming Pelosi hasn't offered any wall money) -- do another shutdown and go through this whole humiliating experience again, when the threat will have no credibility since he's already demonstrated he can't win; or let the government stay open with no wall; or declare a state of emergency, which will be tied up in the courts for a year or two. He's going to learn the true meaning of "Congressional oversight".

And millions of people who never gave it much thought before have learned that all those federal workers are, in fact, necessary to keep things working.

Les Carpenter said...

This is simply a yada, yada, yada moment. It is GOOD federal employees will receive the renumeration for work performed and back pay for those who COULDN'T work (those furloughed).

In three weeks expect another shutdown and be fully ready for Trump to dump full blame on democrats. This is perfectly orchestrated to Trump's political advantage.

Trump is a snake. A shrewd and disingenuous (evil) snake. Regardless, watch him come out on top after three weeks pass and the government partially shuts down AGAIN.

Only in America. The land where solutions arrived at through real compromise is considered unacceptable. It is now completely partisan and political. IE: Our way or the highway.

Trump, Republicans, and yes, even democrats, are guilty of the new normal.

It doesn't matter what Ann Coulter thinks about President Trump, I used to enjoy her commentary when Obama was in office, but now I think that she's unstable.
For a long time I wondered about Ann Coulter's stability and now I'm convinced she needs help. Her reaction to Trump agreeing to a three week cool down period in his negotiations with Nancy, and Chuckie is over the top.
But at least for now, Ann Coulter is irrelevant, but when she becomes the President, maybe I’ll change my mind. But for now, Shut Up and Dance!

Really, skud? So Ronald Reagan was an incompetent crook? Dwight D. Eisenhower was an incompetent crook? Abraham Lincoln was an incompetent crook?

Sounds like you've been eating too many sour grapes. All politicians are not incompetent crooks, but your cynical comment shows you're p.o.ed over what just happened with Trump, who actually IS an incompetent crook.

Ann Coulter has as much of a chance of being elected to the presidency as would a lying, cheating, incompetent, criminally connected fraud has...

Oh. Wait...

From my friend, Stephen B:

Ok, I know it's temporary. And I know it's a small victory.

Trump still controls the Senate and the courts. He and his crime family still causing a lot of damage they may never be undone, and he's going to do a lot more before he's gone; and even when is gone, his mob won't quit.

Also, I have no illusions about the Democratic party or speaker Pelosi - they ain't perfect. Better than Nazis is a low bar.

Still, it feels nice to win one, and the schadenfreude of Trump being bested by a strong woman is sweet.

Kudos to "Steel Slats" Pelosi. I call her Nancy.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Infidel753, I'm betting President Raindrop will NOT shut down the government again. He knows the damage he did to himself with the shutdown. I don't believe he'll do it again.

Oh, there I go again, thinking Trump learns anything from his stupid mistakes.

And yes, Speaker Pelosi won this round. That's what happens when you put a strong-willed, competent woman up against a blowhard know-nothing and ineffective baboon.

Shaw Kenawe said...

RN Let's hope Trump begins to understand that he's now up against a co-equal branch of the US government, and she won't be pushed around. That's something new for him.

skudrunner said...

Ms Shaw, I believe al those presidents you mentioned are no longer with us and trump is incompetent.
If Reagan wasn't president when he was we would all be speaking russian instead of investigating them. Fortunately the great one made russia back down unlike another president who had them pull him out of his mess.

Strong willed and competent describing madam pelosi is far fetched. She knew the news media would back her so she had nothing to lose. Her and lap dog chuckie won the first round now we will see if they try do solve the issue or if they force another shut down.

Ray Cranston said...

If you haven't been crying for your country during Trump's shutdown you will once you read what his crazy supporters say about it. Trump bragged about how he'd gladly would shut down the government and take full credit for it. This meatheads actually believe the Democrats should have given into tRump's blackmail while holding 800,000 Americans hostage. They are blaming Pelosi and Schumer for not giving into tRump! That's how far gone these ignorant little ideologues are. Anything tRump does to hurt America is the Dems fault and if they don't support his idiot ideas, it's the Dems fault. This is why our country is in shit trouble. Because of people who actually think like this:

From a Rabid foaming at the mouth right wing blogger:

"Here’s my take….he really thought the Democrats would feel so badly for the workers that they’d give in? HONESTLY? These people, Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, etc etc., are supposed to be the BIG HEARTED LEFT who cares so much about the PEOPLE? Yet, they didn’t give a damn! They just let it go on and on.;…continuing to blame Trump!
Perhaps Trump thinks more of these hideous Dem jerks than he should?

HE shouldn’t have done the shut down. And THEY should be exposed for not having given in TO GETTING WORKERS PAID……THE PEOPLE THEY SAY THEY CARE SO MUCH ABOUT. Utter B S.

AM I WRONG?"

JHC! "Am I wrong?" Not just wrong, this naive person is upset that tRump's blackmail didn't work! This person believes in government by blackmail and hostage taking!

Strong willed and competent ABOLUTELY describes Speaker Pelosi. She's the one who didn't fold like wet carboard, like Trump did. She has principles, unlike Trump who has no principles, no morals, no acquaintance with truth. How the hell you can still defend a supped leader who took hostages and used blackmail to get his way -- not by negotiating -- is astounding. That is the way authoritarian dictators operate. Our one saving grace is that we have THREE equal branches of government, and one of those branches, Madam Speaker, stood up to the liar, cheat, and incompetent fraud. Madam Speaker has been in the House for years. She knows how it works. She also knows how to deal with a 71 year old temper tantrum throwing charlatan.

Good for her.

BTW, skud. You deliberately and willfully ignore the fact that it isn't the media that backed her, it is A MAJORITY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Why do you persist in your false narratives when the truth is out there for anyone honest enough to seek it.

New poll shows a vast majority of Americans blame President Trump for shutdown

I don't understand why yoou and your fellow Trumpers refuse to face reality and instead blame other people or the media for Trump's failures. And this shutdown was a YUUUUUUUGE Trumpian failure.

Dave Miller said...

Certainly Anon... Coulter is only "over the top" when she's critical of Pres Trump.

You're exactly what is wrong with politics in America today. You have no problem with people being over the top and being critical of ppl you don't like or approve of, but once they turn their sights on your ppl, it's too much.

That's exactly what we call intellectual inconsistency or laziness.

But thanks for being open and upfront about it.

Shaw, Infidel, RN... I'm expecting the emergency declaration as a Valentine's Day Massacre of the GOP.

Apparently for skud and all tRumpers it mgs be in their genes.

Thankfully only just over 30 some percent of Americans are affected.

Skudrunner: Strong willed and competent describing madam pelosi is far fetched.

You guys go right on underestimating Pelosi. I'm cool with that. It worked really well for Trump. And after the last two years, I really need some more ignominious Republican defeats to keep my spirits up.

skudrunner said...

The fact that pelosi got the democrats to vote for a massive bill without seeing it doesn't show how great she is but how stupid the representatives that voted are. I was always under the assumption that our elected elite were suppose to represent the voters in their area. By voting for something that they never saw shows how corrupt they are. Pelosi said Vote for it or I will campaign against you and you will lose your multi million dollar job paid for by bribes.
You really should be proud of her and her stooges. Love seeing chuckie the lap dog by her side.

Now we need to make sure we have a strong leader for 2020 and it won't be djt. He will serve out his term but for 2020 it is NIKKI for President.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud, you obviously read only right wing propaganda and conspiracy sites.

Here are the FACTS on how the ACA was passed.

The ACA had 79 COMMITTEE HEARINGS BEFORE IT WAS PASSED. FACT.

Hearings and Public Testimony

According to Mark Peterson, chair of the UCLA Department of Public Policy, one easy metric by which to judge transparency is the number of hearings held during the development of a bill, as well as the different voices heard during those hearings. So far, the GOP repeal efforts have been subject to zero public hearings.

In contrast, the ACA was debated in three House committees and two Senate committees, and subject to hours of bipartisan debate that allowed for the introduction of amendments. Peterson told us in an e-mail that he “can’t recall any major piece of legislation that was completely devoid of public forums of any kind, and that were crafted outside of the normal committee and subcommittee structure to this extent”.

Another tool intended to promote transparency and open governance is an independent audit of the financial ramifications of a bill by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO). While numerous bills eventually coalesced into what became the ACA, the CBO provided numerous reports on multiple aspects of the law ahead of its vote in the Senate.

And Trump's AHCA?

"...the AHCA was forced through the House without a single hearing in relevant committees, no score by the Congressional Budget Office and admissions from members of the House GOP that they had not read the very bill they voted on."

Skud, please read the above paragraph over to yourself at least 10 times, and then promise yourself to never come here with those fake talking points about the passage of the ACA and Nancy Pelosi, EVER, EVER AGAIN!

Please try to inform yourself on both sides of the issues. What you wrote is a complete distortion of the truth. That is what Trump does and apparently his followers have no problem because they deal in half-truths, distortions, and lies as well.

As our good friend Ducky would say: "We're here to help you live the life of the mind."

And may I add -- not the mindless.

skudrunner said...

I was not referring to what djt said but what madam said and how her lemmings marched in line taking the American public with them. Remember that they are Representatives not Lemmings but they just don't act like they have an independent thought.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said of the Affordable Care Act, in 2010: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it."

That is from snopes so it must be true

So what did I say that wasn't true?

Grey One talks sass said...

skud... my name is Grey One, not GOO.

As usual your quote re: Nancy Pelosi is close but not correct.

Per Snopes:
What's True
Nancy Pelosi did utter the words attributed to her about the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

What's False
The infamous soundbite doesn't reflect the full context and meaning of her remarks.

The full quote is "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy." And then there are paragraphs of analysis but of course you didn't dig deeper because that would reflect intellectual honesty.

Ms Shaw's comment above explains the vetting undergone by the Obama Administration for the ACA, something neither the Trump administration nor GOP give him credit for or performed on their own pitiful attempt at replacement.

Here is a quote from Trump on February 27, 2017 "Nobody knew healthcare was so complicated".

I guess the dumb really doesn't roll far from the tree - eh skud?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Thank you Greu One talks sass for adding more facts to refute skud's inaccurate statement on Speaker Pelosi. However, I've given our friend skudrunner doezens of facts in the past, but he continues to insist that sound bites and selective quotes are reality.

That thirty percent of the voting public still support a liar, a cheat, and a fraud in the Oval Office shows how far they will go into the rabbit hole to avoid the truth of what Trump and the current GOP is.

Trump's latest harebrained idea is to insert "Bible literacy" into public schools. Obviously he's sucking up to the only people in America who think that's a great idea. Trump's too unacquainted with our Constitution to understand that if we introduce "Bible literacy" into the public schools we will have to allow "Koran literacy," Scientology literacy," "Mormon literacy," and even "Church of Satanliteracy." Trump has no idea of the principle this country was founded on. He's probably the most illiterat of all our presidents.

Thanks for stopping by.

Healthcare is difficult and is a multi billion dollar business which does not object to paying those who assist it. The only thing Our elected elite understand is there is gold in them there mines and I want mine.
Obamacare was a mess from the start with bribes and payoffs paid to secure a deal. It dis/does not serve the interests of the majority of the American people and didn't ever serve the people who needed the help. All this incompetence cost the American taxpayer billions and provided little.
When madam said you have to sign it in order to see it she didn't want anyone to question what was in it because it wouldn't pass.
