January 8, 2021

 UPDATE BELOW

After Trump incited his armed goons and thugs to commit insurrection against the United States of America and telling them he "loved them," he saw what letting loose the dogs of sedition created: Shock and revulsion among the majority of the American people, and incredulity in America's allies.

Trump's handlers must have gone to him and explained that his encouragement of his mobs to desecrate the citadel of American democracy in service to his lies about a stolen election was not setting well with non-Trumpian America. His incitement would destroy any legacy he might have had. But the idea that Trump had any kind of positive "legacy" leading up to January 6 is laughable. His legacy is one of corruption and stoking of right wing extremism that has damaged our country.

Trump didn't listen, nor did he care. He was too busy licking his wounded ego to be bothered with seeing the worst attack on the nation's capitol since 1812 and watching Congressmen and women huddling under their desks and in other locations as his beloved armed insurgents marauded and desecrated the building. It was sickeningly fascinating to watch. After the hordes of armed insurrectionists got inside the Capitol building, they didn't know what to do. They stole, broke, and acted like cretins -- a bit like the apes in Jane Goddall's book, when she described the apes that came into her camp and destroyed everything, including her lab.

Trump issued a statement yesterday that was as real as the furry thing he glues to his head and the orange glaze on his face. There was no sincerity in any of his grudgingly admitted acceptance of who won the presidency, nor in his call for a "smooth and orderly transition." He did not admit he lost, but he clearly stated that he won and that the facts prove it, but that there would be a new administration. That was not admission that he lost, only that he would no longer be president. He is keeping up the false narrative, continuing to delegitimize Biden’s win.

Calls for impeaching Trump again and/or using the 25th Amendment to get rid of him echoed through Congress, fearing for what the Maniac-in-Chief would do before January 20th. Will Trump face a second impeachment or get the 25th Amendment treatment? Who knows. After what happened on Wednesday, I would not be surprised at anything.

I do know this: Trump's cultists see nothing wrong with what he did, check out their blogs and read their conspiracy theories about who and what started the insurgency against America. They still cannot bring themselves to see what a monumental disaster Trump is (and always has been), and the indelible harm he has delivered to our country.

What happens over the next twelve days is anyone's guess. Who would have predicted what happened on Wednesday?

It's good to see the rats leaving the sinking ship and to not have had to read Trump's idiotically insane Tweets for a few days.

The Republican Party knowingly allowed this dysfunction to continue in a craven, desperate attempt to hold onto power.

Trump's presidency is over. And he will leave it the way he started it: In shameful lies, distortions, and dishonor.

Good riddance to the worst president in my lifetime.

UPDATE:

The worst president in my lifetime has announced he will not attend Joe Biden's inauguration.

Biggest, whiniest sore loser in American history.

But we're all ecstatic that he will not be there to sully a happy and glorious moment. We don't want garbage like him there.

Thank you Trump for promising to deprive us of your toxic, miserable presence!

Perhaps no one could have predicted the events of this past Wednesday. But they should have had at least an indication. If they didn't it is only because they WEREN'T listening.

If you look back at trump from the time he was given his millions from his father you would see how this would turn out. He was at the top of the world and never heard no. Even when he bankrupted his companies the banks gave him the money he needed to grow. He is like the little kid who's toy was taken away and he kicked his feet and screamed. I know the Rev and Ms Shaw know this about him and they need to get their licks in within 12 days because they will need to focus on praising the new administration.
Joey is taking over a mess. Unemployment is way up and the signs of a recession are starting to become a reality. The stock market is up because they know the new administration will pour massive amounts into give-a-ways. Although inflation is not coming soon our grandchildren will have to pay for our mistakes. Twitter/facebook/instagram and all the other incite sites need to blacklist trump.

A couple of questions for the learned pair.
After the peaceful demonstrations in DC and NYC is de-funding the police still a great idea?

Who is going to monitor the new administration since the media has stated they are hands off.

I had lunch with several friends all of which got stimulus checks. They are all retired and receive SS and all but one received a pension. How responsible is our government with our money to let this happen?

I do hope joey has a plan to administer 100 million doses in his first 100 days because the current plan is not working.

This was an event that was broadcast for a couple of weeks and the capital police were caught unprepared. That shows the level of competency in the federal government and the administrative skills of the bureaucrats. The same media that has campaigned for de-funding the police are outraged this took place. It's know wonder we have vaccines expiring because they are to slow to administer them.

Now we will have an administration who will pour trillions into a massive give-a-way program to benefit no one and in-debt our grandchildren and theirs.

We gave away a by the people for the people form of government decades ago and, short of a revolution, we need term limits and mandatory retirement age for our elected elite.

Please anon, stop making us laugh so hard our gut hurts. Your Orangne Turd is the incompetent hemroid that is responsible for attempting to destroy our democracy, our economy, and the respect we once enjoyed across the free democratic world.

Shits supporting the corrupt, completely dishonest Orange Turd are part of the problem. They are NOT part of the cure. Educate yourself with accurate credible information and give up on the lies, conspiracy BS,and reenter actual reality. You'll be glad you did. Eventually. Uness of course you're either incapable or unwilling to accept reality. In which case you're to be pitied.

AlterNet: "It's time to get violent": Far-right extremists are promising more violence after the U.S. Capitol invasion. (excerpt) Ron Russell, a Trump supporter from Ohio, told The Dispatch, "I see justice being done. This is our house, our house. We're taking it back. May not be today, but we will take this house back, guaranteed".

Robert Unterzuber, a friend of Russell, predicted that future attacks on the Capitol Building will be even more violent... "We're coming to the Capitol, and we're going to tear her down if necessary and drag them people out of there".

Report: Trump Agreed To Condemn Insurrection Only After Being Warned Of Potential Criminal Probe

The New York Times reported that Trump did not want to make the speech at first and was only convinced to do it after White House Counsel Pat Cipollone warned him on Wednesday night that he could face a criminal investigation for actively encouraging his supporters to storm the Capitol in a clash that left at least five people dead.

Only then did the President reluctantly agree to tape a video condemning his supporters’ attack even though he had privately enjoyed it, according to the Times. He had previously issued a statement praising the insurrections as “very special” and telling them “We love you.”

“The demonstrators who infiltrated the capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy,” Trump said in the new video while reading off a script. “To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country and to those who broke the law, you will pay.”

Dave Miller said...

There's lots of blame to go around for what happened Wednesday. A total breakdown by law enforcement, a President not acting to quell the violence, instead looking to flame the fires of insurrection and a host of Congressional quislings so enamored of power and looking to 2024 that they defile their oath to the Constitution.

But things changed early this morning with the death of a member of the Capitol Police. Now, as in any civil disturbance, any charge from this should include murder. These people participated in an event that caused the murder of a Federal Officer. Each person arrested and charged should also be charged with at least involuntary manslaughter.

And, as in any large civil disturbance, people who set the stage are also guilty. In this case, that should include Pres Trump, Rudy Giuliani and Don Jr., at a minimum. Well... them and Viking boy with the furs and horns.

I am sure that this week we will start to see conservative bloggers and commentators, who normally call for law, order, arrests and prison for looting a shoe store, calling for such charges. I'm sure. Because there's no way they will change their tune is there?

Well said. My alarm comes not so much from the Attack Dogs mindlessly willing to do a Master's bidding and failing to know what to do without a Handler once they got inside. The part that was chilling to me was the lack of preparation by our National Security and the infiltration of clearly many of it's members who not only invited the mob in to do whatever it was they hoped they do... but some were stupid enough {or felt emboldened enough} to take Selfies with the Domestic Terrorists. We don't really know how deep infiltration has gone up the Food Chain, do we? And the expendable Beasts they've created in their Mindless Followers is just the canon fodder for whatever chaos they want to instigate now, they know they have legions of them at their disposal... and that they're all so brainwashed and ginned up to be the disposable props they need them to be. Any outside Enemy need only to sit back and watch the inside Enemy weaken us to just the right point now... This deranged Lunatic has been a PINO, he was never fit but he is what they expected him to be... he is what he's always been, so no surprises really in the direction he took us... everything he touches dies.

Bohemian Apparently, the insurrectionists are planning more sedition against the United States. See the post from my friend Lee Arnold who copied and pasted what the Trump traitors are planning for inauguration week. (And I do believe many of the Capitol police were negligent on purpose during the siege of Washington on Wednesday.)

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave, I've read the reactions on the far right blogs. They sicken me. There is nothing Trump and his thugs can do that will convince them of his corruption and criminality in all of this.

They are as responsible for this chaos in their refusal to acknowledge Trump's and the other GOPers' complicity.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Derv We were told by the FBI, CIA, and other law enforcement agencies that white supremacists and far right militias are the biggest threat to our democracy. And we are seeing that play out now in real time.

Shaw Kenawe said...

RN that Anonymous doesn't understand "defund the police." It doesn't mean to take away financial resources, but to redirect them to other areas that should not involve police, like domestic arguments and other areas that require trained social workers and psychologists.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud: "Joey is taking over a mess."

At least you admit that Trump made a mess of America. And yes, it's up to another Democrat, as it was in 2008, to clean up after a miserably inept and incompetent Republican presidency.

Republicans don't know how to govern. The American people need to internalize that. Goopers only know power and addiction to totalitarians and proto-fascists like Trump.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... that final graphic, from Parler, should put to rest the fallacy that this was an act of Antifa.

But let's, for a minute, entertain the right wing fiction that it was indeed an "Antifa False Flag Operation"...

Are the people calling the invasion, destruction and subsequent murder of a Federal Agent the acts of a wanton group of Antifa protestors? If so, they should step forward, join us libs, and call for the arrest, prosecution and death penalty for all involved. Wouldn't that seem to fit their world view? And in this case, none of supposed "patriots" have anything to worry about. Because it wasn't them, rather the Antifa infiltrators.

These folks are too smart for me.

Breaking: Richard Barnett, who was seen sitting at a desk in Speaker Pelosi's office during the riot on the U.S. Capitol, has been arrested in Arkansas and charged with entering and remaining on restricting grounds, violent entry, and theft of public property.

Ray Cranston said...

Donald Trump fully deserves to be the first President in history to be impeached twice.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave, I've read enough right wing blogs to see that they still believe Trump was wronged. Apparently they didn't listen to his hour-long harangue on Jan. 6 when he invited his insurrectionists to go to the Capitol and kept repeating the lie that the election was a fraud.

The people on those blogs are irredeemable and naive in their childlike understanding of what happened. Nothing deters them from their worship of this monstrous man. And nothing will. To do that, they'd all need to be de-programmed, like cultists are de-programmed in order for them to come back to reality.

Anon seems to have forgotten the trillions tRUMP and friends gave to the corporations and billionaires. It past time to distribute a few trillion to the people that will spend the money and bring the economy back.

"Trump issued a statement yesterday that was as real as the furry thing he glues to his head and the orange glaze on his face."
Very well written. I like it!

Ray A president can be impeached just before he leaves office and then be put on trial after he's gone. I just read that.

Bluebullamerica said...

Ray, he's the first president in our history that deserves to rot in prison. Okay, I'd have thrown W into that mix too.

Trump needs to be impeached for the Congress to fulfill it's responsibility. I don't care if they vote that impeachment at 11:30 AM January 20th.

Biden's response to Trump saying he will not attend the inauguration - "Its the first thing Trump and I have ever agreed on."

skudrunner said...

Rev, It couldn't be ANTIFA because they are just an idea not a group. Blueballs, W seriously for for what cause, being to nice a guy.

We have 11 days before the new regime takes the throne and the way congress moves I doubt there would be time to impeach and I don't see the benefit at this late date. Impeachment should have happened a year or so ago but as always the republicans wimped out.

Ms Shaw, the disaster the prince took over was caused by his own maxine, criss and barney but yes he did take over a mess and then mishandled it. In his defense no one in his administration was ever convicted of a crime.

For lying about WMD and the resulting loss of innocent human lives. One thing has become certain in regards to the GOP... The party of LIARS, CHEATS, and CONS... tRump being the recognized king of them ALLL.

Bluebullamerica said...

Skidmark thinks he's funny but some of us, you know the REAL Patriots, remember how W told a lie (Seems to be a thing with right wingers) to get a war started. A war we're still losing people to, btw. But perhaps you were napping then..... That would explain so much about you and your weird ideas.

Dervish Sanders said...

I don't see the benefit at this late date.

There are two benefits. The first is that he can't issue pardons while being impeached (conviction not required). The second (though this one does require conviction) is not being able to run for public office again. Why even republicans might want to convict. Even after Joe Biden is sworn in.

btw, Minus has a YouTube up on his blog from some guy who is outraged that Nancy Pelosi "attempted a coup". By asking the military not to start a war or follow illegal orders.

skudrunner said...

Blueballs, You seem to be under the impression that presidents don't lie. In the case of WMD that just pointed out how horrible our intelligence capabilities are. You were fine with Saddam murdering thousands of his own citizens but not with taking him out. I was against the invasion but I do see the reason which it turned out to be flawed. Seems to be a pattern that your supreme leader was fine letting syria murder thousands of their own people while we turn the country over to russia. BTW in case you missed it we could not keep our own doctors and insurance.

Derv, Congress can't even order lunch in ten days but they may be able to rush a vote in to impeach him. You do have a valid point about trump not being able to pardon ivanka et al. A sad time in our history is soon to end if the media will let it which is doubtful. Maybe we can lable trump as American culture and cancel it.
