Republicans’ new Speaker, Mike Johnson: “We don’t live in a democracy,” we live in a “biblical” republic.

He's signaling the forced change to come when the Evangelical Christian Nationalists are in charge.

I look forward to the fight that will ensue.

He misspelled "banana". There's no such thing as a "Biblical republic". Representative government isn't mentioned in the Bible at all, even though contemporary Greece and Rome had either that or direct democracy in the same time frame. So Johnson can just define this non-existent term to mean whatever he wants it to mean.

Yes, and according to Huffington Post: "At the end of the day, the problem is the human heart,” Johnson told Fox News host Sean Hannity one day after a gunman killed at least 18 people and injured dozens more in Maine. “It’s not guns, it’s not the weapons.”

I don't know for sure, but I think people in other countries have human hearts and I don't see mass shootings almost every single day in any other country but the good ole U.S. of A.

Les, Infidel753, possum lady,

Mullah Michael Johnson is an insurrectionist who believes with all his crooked little heart that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen. He offers absolutely no evidence to back that up, because there isn’t any.

Mullah Michael is the kind of religionist who knows nothing about the foundations of our democratic republic. God is not mentioned in our Constitution, and our Constitution is where our secular laws come from, not the Bible.

Americans are free to read their Bibles and believe in their various gods, but the Speaker of the House cannot and will not turn our secular nation into a theocracy like Iran and Afghanistan, which governments he apparently admires.

Newly minted speaker NatC (aka Christian nationalist) Michael Johnson is also a huge fan of the faux historians David and Tim Barton (of Wallbuilder fame). David Barton is famous in certain circles for his fact free lectures about how there are full biblical verses in the Constitution or his interpretation of the First Amendment claiming the state is supposed to support and elevate the church. The guy is delusional but still gets paid the big bucks to support NatC fantasies.

Honestly none of the NatC's need evidence, their deity has spoken to them personally and the true believers eat this crap up for breakfast, lunch, and supper.

Operation Let Them Speak is going splendidly. I know the NatC's believe they speak for the majority but the truth is in the House secret vs public ballots. Folks are all about our democracy when they don't have to face or be held accountable by the MAGA mob.

Added note: I thought about using the title Mullah for Michael Johnson but it's a label used to denote a person well versed in Islamic culture and law. As much as I'd love to degrade Mr. Johnson I just can't do it if I'm casting aspersions on another faith. And truthfully, Michael Johnson will be doing enough aspersion casting himself every time he opens his mouth. To me he will always be a NatC.

Oh, oh. In a "biblical republic" there'll be no more shellfish and pork, not to mention executions for homosexuals. Oh, and slaves.

"The reality is - and no one can tell me otherwise - my (adopted Black) son Michael had a harder time than my (White) son Jack is going to have simply because of the color of his skin. And that’s a reality." ~ Speaker Mike Johnson

WHAT?? The Republican Speaker blurted out the central premise of Critical Race Theory? Well, then. That can only mean he is a MARXIST!

Mike's using government to shove Christianity in your face is sooooo annoying. It's almost as bad as having Woke antiracism, DEI and AGW shoved in your face by government every day...

Evangelicals and Woke Activists are two sides of the same coin.

A Christian Republic or a Gay Bar with free drag shows and hormone blockers for kids.... decisions, decisions...

Moralistic woke progressives, evangelicals on steroids.

Possum hints at the real issue in her comment about the human heart and other countries.

Are hearts in the rest of the mostly male, Caucasian world better than ours? Why, perhaps someone can tell us, do this shootings happen here at a more alarming rate, even controlling for population differences?

Are our hearts worse, or more hardened than say Norway, Denmark, Germany of Ireland?

Or could the reason these shootings keep happening here in the US be something other than a problem of the heart?

And if so, besides it being the fault of "joey b", what might that or those reasons be?

Well Dave D... some of the Mothership type of folks are none too happy about the remark you cited, that's for sure.

Shaw, I did not mean to tell you what to do on your blog. Been eating at me, like it does... I apologize for sounding harsh. Kindness which is my basic nature seems so far away these days.

Been doing some research on our new speaker. I thought I knew his name. He was one of the main lawyers for the ADF (Alliance Defense Fund formerly Alliance Defending Freedom). He fought against LGBTQA+ civil rights, believes dinosaurs were on the Ark with Noah (yes, he's a supporter of The Ark Encounter - thinks the state was crazy smart to build the thing.) and I'm sure there are a couple more things I could dig up that proves his horrible bona fides.

And as much as I despise everything he stands for I'm glad he is upfront and center representing today's GOP. He's everything they say they want... we will see..

Directly from Speaker Johnson, one of the architects of the failed J6 coup plot...

“In every election in American history, there’s some small element of fraud, irregularity, error. We just know that. You just accept that that’s the case,” acknowledged Johnson before pressing on:

But when you have it on a broad scale, when you have, you know a software system that is used all around the country that is suspect because it came from Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela. When you have, you know, testimonials of people like this but in large numbers, it begs to be litigated and investigated.

This is the view of the man second in line to the presidency. He's either a loon, a liar, wrong, or stupid because Hugo Chavez and Venezuela had nothing to do with scamming or throwing our elections.

But that is what you get when people who hold views like this... "I PERSONALLY don’t care what you Progressive Nuts think of the last election in my Honest Opinion there is NO Doubt in my mind that it was Rigged, and Fixed like many others were.", while citing no evidence, get a voice and a vote.

Les Carpenter said...

He's not wrong or stupid Dave. It's the naive (or stupid) public he's playing to. The MAGA base and the facist right. He knows perfectly well what words to choose. He knows no one will check the veracity of his utterances. Exactly like his messiah tRump.

Bullpuckey! Your comparison doesn't hold water.

Evangelicals tell people only their god is the true god and only those who believe what they believe will get to their heaven. Being "woke" does nothing even close to that.

Evangelicals blame LGBTQ people for any catastrophe -- the new Speaker, Trump's Johnson, even blamed school shootings on gays and women. He's nothing more than Pat Roberts in new skin. A raging anti-democracy theocrat. And not very bright.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dave M.

In a sane country, no one would put a man second in line to the presidency who helped plan an insurrection to overturn a free and fair election.

That is insane! I'm learning more and more about Johnson, and it's all bad.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Les, I've been reading about Johnson, and as I said to JoeCon/-FJ, he nothing more than Pat Roberts in new skin. He hold the same sort of whacko ideas about gays, women, trans, and other groups his religion hates.

Les Carpenter said...

@Shaw... I find it perplexing how many Christian Evangelicals support a liar, cheat (in more ways than one), and someone who is actually not religious or a practicing Christian in any sense of the word.

tRump must have some sort of mystical powers none of us understand.
