Years ago, Luciano Pavarotti was scheduled to sing Nessun Dorma on the Grammys. But that night he fell ill at the last minute and could not sing. With an orchestra ready to go, the producers were lost as to what to do.
Until Aretha Stepped forward and with no rehearsal, said "I can do it".
The rest as they say is history as she knocked it out of the park, even singing in Pavarotti's key.
Here's an old fashioned link to the performance...

Turandot is such a great Opera. I only saw it for the first time about a year ago.
And tenors are tenors. I can't really tell the difference.
I watched her performance many, many times, and I am still astounded by it.
I have the DVD of Turandot that was performed in The Forbidden City. Magnificent.
Sounds like quite the staging.
