Unless you add the Great Gatsby Costume Ball at Mar a Lago on Halloween Night, one day before SNAP food aid for innocent children gets cut off.

All of our politicians are derelict in this. But only one is spitting in the face of the least of these who can't just get a job, make their own meals and must live 100% dependent on others.

What should be asked is why, in the richest and most plentiful country in the world, why do we have 42 million people depending of food assistance to feed themselves and their families. Is it because, as Les believes, corporations serve no purpose except to exploit the people or is it people would rather rely on a government handout than get a job to pay their own way. Like most things it is probably a combinations of both.

The shutdown is entering another lengthy phase with both sides blaming the other. We The People should throw them all out and start fresh because this shows how stupid is is stupid does.

skud steps up to the plate, the crowd holds their breath, it's a swing and a resounding miss. The crowd collectively groans "How could they miss?"

Was it their implication that 42 million SNAP recipients are lazy bums? Was it their dig at workers who would rather get handouts than work? Was it their bothsiderisms? Why not all?

Fact: Until DOGE doged the records the SNAP program was resting at 3% fraud, the lowest of all assistance programs. Per the latest numbers AI is saying it's 24 - 25%, but their proof is sketchy as all get out and they only include the numbers for the 24/25 fiscal year. But as I said, DOGE did a number on the American reporting systems so who knows if the current numbers are accurate.

Fact: From 2000 to present the CEO to worker salary divide has floated at the high 200's to low 300 percentile range. This means the CEO class takes home 300% more than their regular workers on the floor.

That's just the hourly and doesn't take into account bonuses which are traditionally only paid at the executive level. I've met many CEO's. There is no way on this earth the work they do is 300 times more valuable than their lowest janitor. I don't see the CEO class taking out their own garbage, just saying.

Fact: Last Federal minimum wage increase was 2009 to $7.25/hour.

No where in the USA can a person afford two bedroom housing working 40 hours a week at Federal minimum wage. Per AI, for a two bedroom rental one must earn 28.58 nationally, and for a one bedroom rental $20.40/hour.

Fact: The biggest recipients of government handouts are corporations through tax breaks and public assistance of their workers (looking at you Amazon and Walmart although you aren't the only ones)

Perhaps they, as skud has suggested, don't want to work?

There is a reason Unions made the USA strong. The owner/CEO class are greedy cusses who really need an intervention. No one needs billions of dollars. No one.

First skud please link to where I said corporations serve purpose but to exploit people. I stand behind my statement that greed, the desire for more and more wealth, is what drives corporations. It is the greed that makes no sense. Not the products or services provided. I simply believe there is no need for folks to amass 1/2 trillion dollars and more. Greed indeed is the source of many of societies problems.

It is the minority of people who need aid that need it because they are lazy and don't want to work because they can get "free" stuff. That con meme is just so much BS.

And skud, term limits such as I posted in an earlier post that I believe supports your general position on term limits.

This shutdown could very easily be ended of tRump would back off his insistence on hurting people who can least afford it.

Facts mean little to cons. It's all about their uncompromising ideology. Even when it's basically an ignorant delusional path to greater suffering.

Skud opined... "What should be asked is why, in the richest and most plentiful country in the world, why do we have 42 million people depending of food assistance to feed themselves and their families."

It's a reasonable question Skud, one all of us should consider.

Is it the chicken or the egg Skud?

In 1980, the minimum wage in Las Vegas was $2.90 an hour. Working then for Carl's Jr/Hardee's, we paid our people $3.20 an hour so we could "compete" with tip income ppl got at the casinos.

Two ppl making minimum would have a gross salary of $240/week or $1040/month. An average 2 bdrm apartment then rented for $250.00/month, about 25% of a couple's gross monthly income.

Now two people making minimum in Vegas would get $900/week or about $3900/month. Rent for the SAME two bdrm I rented for $250 in 1979 is $2K. about 50% of a couple's gross monthly income.

How does a couple starting out make up that coin, that 25% difference in purchasing power?

i would argue Wall Street has kept wages low to benefit stock owners, 401K ppl and pension investors, at the expense of Main Street everyday folks like most of us who comment here.

Maybe Skud would agree, maybe not. But there can be no arguing with the fact that the same work today does not have the same purchasing power it once did.

Why is that?

Is it possible that the 42 million number, which is a disgusting number, is a logical outcome of a devalued purchasing power, a response to reality if you will and not because everyone is lazy and refuses to bootstrap themselves to a better economic level?

And, is it possible, or logical to believe the consolidation of extreme wealth in the hands of a few, along with an ability to manipulate the markets to their benefit, might be what's causing those 42 million folks to need help?
