Nicholas Kristof:

Nicholas Kristof

There have been a couple more developments in the case of Renee Good, shot dead by an ICE officer in Minneapolis.

First, a new video has been released showing the perspective of the ICE officer who shot Good. Administration officials seem to think it's exculpatory, but to me it's the opposite.  The officer walks around the car, and Renee Good greets him cheerfully and says, twice, "I'm not mad at you." Her demeanor is friendly, not that of a person who poses a threat. Then the officer walks around the front of the car.

She is clearly visible turning the steering wheel to the right, away from the ICE officer, and she starts to drive off. There is no thump or movement that indicates that he was hit. But he fires three times in quick succession and then -- with her perhaps already dead -- he appears to say, "Fucking bitch."

In other words, nothing in any of the videos indicates that Good is a crazed leftist or has any intention to harm anyone. She seems to be trying to leave the scene. It is the ICE officer who seems menacing and out of control.

The other development is that we've learned more about both Good and her killer. The ICE officer was apparently once injured when a vehicle dragged him about 100 yards, and that obviously may have made him particularly sensitive to vehicular threats. Then again, that obviously cannot excuse an execution on the street.

As for Good, what we learn is the opposite of the "crazed leftist" narrative presented by Kristi Noem and by Vice President Vance. Good had just dropped off her child at school. She reportedly is a Christian, a poet and the widow of an Air Force veteran, now married to a woman. She is a US citizen and does not appear to have any history of violence or to have been anything but a model citizen.

I'd also note that the Trump administration claims that it was necessary to send in ICE officers to protect US citizens. But the only killing of a US citizen in Minneapolis so far in 2026 was not by an undocumented immigrant but by an ICE officer.

I understand that law enforcement officers feel under threat and make difficult life-and-death decisions. But that is not a license to execute a friendly driver as she leaves the scene of a confrontation. And it is outrageous that ICE refused to allow a man identified as a doctor to try to treat Good at the scene. I am particularly troubled by the way the administration has lied about this case from the beginning, presenting this as self-defense from a crazed leftist, defaming Good as well as killing her. I've spent a lot of time covering dictatorships, and that is straight out of the authoritarian playbook. It's what I expect in Iran or Venezuela, not in the US.

I have no confidence in the ability of the feds to investigate the case, so I hope the Minnesota prosecutors will pursue the case (even though the feds have withheld evidence so far) and take it to a grand jury if appropriate. I don't want to prejudge the evidence here, but we need to protect citizens and we can't grant impunity to federal officers who shoot drivers in the head as they try to leave.

"Whenever any American's life is taken by another American unnecessarily - whether it is done in the name of the law or in the defiance of law... in an attack of violence or in response to violence - whenever we tear at the fabric of life which another man has woven for himself and his children, the whole nation is degraded." - Senator Robert F. Kennedy.

Let's remember Shaw... the Admin, led by Trump himself, before any evidence has been produced, totally maligned the character of Good, I'm sure, causing lots of undue pain and suffering to her family.

They've labeled her a domestic terrorist for crying out loud!

Tell us -FJ, Joe and Skud... was Good a domestic terrorist as Trump claims, or was he lying to the American people?

Since when does a United States President personally attack and lie about an American citizen with no evidence with the simple goal of maligning her or ginning up his own support?

Anyone, anyone at all have an answer?

When a US President does stuff like this, everyone, of all stripes and political parties should be able to stand up and criticize him. But apparently that a bridge too far for way too many people.

Since the death of Renee Good I've been sort of quiet. I say sort of because I've commented on both FB and IG when appropriate but nothing more.

I have a few statements about what happened and the fallout I've observed:
+ I am heartened by the number of my fellow citizens who are finally waking up.
+ At first I laughed at the eyerolls from the BIPOC and LBTQIA+ communities until they presented reams of papers detailing everyone summarily ended by the cops. And as they remind those of us late to the party, these are the ones we know about, who knows how many have been killed over the past fifty to one hundred years. Now my eyes are clear. No more laughing but certainly with the strengthening of my resolve, no more tears.
+ I found a couple of witchy sites and we are more aligned than I thought. Thus far our folks are out magicking their spell castors so there is that.

Conclusions:
- The intent was to get us to riot. We did not.
- The intent was to spread fear. We organized and pulled in close our communities. Fear cannot survive community, good foods, and the common goal of the safety of our neighbors.
- The intent was to spread disinformation (misinformation = oops, my bad I was wrong vs disinformation = deliberately saying what you know is incorrect to support your narrative). They failed because when one's phone is a mini recording studio everyone is a journalist.

Renee Good perished while telling her killer she wasn't mad at them. I don't know about the rest of anyone but I saw in her eyes and smile the face of her deity Jesus Christ when she told her killer that she wasn't mad at him. And for that the Nat-C's killed her because that was their intent all along.

I prefer not to predict what humans will or will not do, but the indicators all point to events not predicted by our current admin. What are they? Are you kidding me? I can't keep a secret to save my life so you know they don't tell me anything, only that stuff is in the works and I will be so proud of them. Oh babies, can't you feel my love through the ley lines? I'm already proud of y'all.

Sending loves your way my PE family. I urge you to remain safe and hydrated and to remember the fable of the half penny nail and how not having one was able to take down an empire. Just a thought.

Apparently and unfortunately the MAGA fascists don't see it that way. Why would they? They are blinded by blind loyalty to their Fuhrer

This quote is from RFK's speech “Mindless Menace of Violence” given April 5,1968, one day after MLK was shot and killed in Memphis.

Many consider it to be the best speech he ever gave.

I'm afraid we are seeing a preview of the actions and lies that Trump will exploit to impose martial law and the dictatorship he craves.

Yes Dave, it's only a matter of time. And the time will occur before the 2026 mid terms which will be cancelled, with congressional approval.
