Dear P.E. Readers,

The POTUS is a very sick, deteriorating man. How much longer will America keep up the pretense that Donald Trump is sane?

IMO, anyone still supporting this pathetic clown is as unstable as he is.

In the span of two hours last night, Trump went from attacking the Pope to declaring himself the Messiah. Thank gawd he didn't wear a tan suit, though!

After Criticizing Pope, Trump Posts Image of Himself as a Jesus-Like Figure

In any other country, if its leader published this garbage, his fellow countrymen and women would demand his stepping down for reasons of insanity.

Why does the Republican Party still keep this lunatic in office? Maybe the GOP leadership is as non compos mentis as Trump is?

"The president of Iran tagged Pope Leo XIV on Twitter (X)." Trump did that:

PS. On the defeat of Trump/Vance-backed authoritarian Viktor Orban:

"Orbán’s defeat capped a week of failure for Vance and Trump, a sign of Trump’s own diminishing power that may end in a midterm defeat as humiliating as Orbán’s. Trump, despite his bluster, looks smaller and more isolated than ever."--Eric Christiansen

Truly pathetic. Both with respect to trump and his trumpublican party. Especially his party of adoring faithless sheeple.

Turning a blind eye to his obvious and extremely serious cognitive decline and emotional/mental instability his party is actually doing great disservice to the People of America. As well as increasing instability on the world stage.

Ik Onkar!

The silver lining is he won't be winning any more fans and rapidly losing most of his Catholic supporters.

When he finally crashes and burns America will be celebrating. As will most of the planet.

From the Washington Post: Asked about the post Monday afternoon, Trump said he posted it.

“I thought it was me as a doctor, and had to do with Red Cross, as a Red Cross worker, which we support,” Trump said.

To quote Bugs Bunny--What a maroon!!!

Dave Miller said...

For some unknown reason, with no explantion from the president, the post depicting him as Jesus has been taken down. Additionally, Trump is reported to have said he's being portrayed as a doctor.

So... why take the image down? Because it was offensive? Blaphemous? poor taste? Why?

And if it is because ppl are/were offended, shouldn't the POTUS apologize for posting it in the first place?

Les Carpenter said...

The malignant narcissist NEVER apologizes. Afterall, he's never wrong, don'tcha know?

The "man' is nothing short of a certifiable idiot.

And the once respectable and credible Republican party has caved to his idiocy, fully supports it as he brings down the country.

Dave Miller said...

From the NY Times about the possibility of an apology from POTUS Trump... "As a rule, Mr. Trump does not apologize for doing and saying things that hurt or offend people, and officials in his White House characterize his behavior as radically refreshing and transparent."

He does not apologize for doing and saying things that hurt or offend people... interesting how alike Skud and POTUS Trump view offensive and/or hurtful statements.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Trump learned the “don’t ever apologize and never admit you’re wrong” from his mentor, the execrable Roy Cohn.

Shaw Kenawe said...

I read that Trump deleted that terrible meme of him depicting himself as Jesus Christ. People won’t forget, and the Internet is forever. We have to remind MAGA of the depth of his depravity in what he did, even if they tried to find excuses for it.

A bull in a China shop - not only did Italian leader Miloni, Italy's Trump, protest the Great Gauche, but even the Mothership is confused.

Dave Miller said...

No one can argue that Joe Biden was in tip top shape in the final years of his presidency. The same was true for FDR. But both of those men had competent people around them who ensured the US would not go off a cliff and would not be mocked around the world.

You can argue that some decisions did not get carried out well in each case, for example the Afghanistan withdrawal and the Malta conference, but the core mission of both those decisions was sound. Right now Trump cannot even explain what the core mission is in any of his decisions, Certainly not the Iran debacle.

It's to the point that anyone arguing for the continued presidency of Trump literally is rooting against America, albeit indirectly, or unknowingly.

POTUS Trump is embarrassing the US on the world stage and tarnishing our respect, something his supporters frequently said was important to them when Dems were in office.

POTUS Trump has ruined our relationships with countries within the NATO alliance, all long term strategic partners of the US. At the same time he has equivocated and not been resolute in dealings with the Chinese, North Korea and Russia.

Our economy is struggling. If you have a 401k, you're nervous as can be and if you have children, I bet they are struggling to either get a good job or buy a house.

POTUS has no Reagan style "kitchen cabinet". He has no VP he will listen to if he says "Boss, this is a bad idea." There is no James Baker guiding the hand of state. And there is no real pushback from anyone in his own party when he goes off the rails. Which is happening with increasing frequency these days.

His recent response to the Pope when he responded with a first grade "He said mean things about me" taunt shows it. His lies about why he posted the latest image, that it's him being a doctor, are not to be believed. Because they are the ass covering lies of a third grader trying to avoid blame from his teacher.

Did Biden, FDR and other presidents make mistakes? Sure they did. Were there failures in their admins? Yes, of course. But at this point, the emperor has no clothes. Yet his supporters keep seeing him through their rose colored MAGA glasses and propping him up.

It's time... though I can't believe I'm saying it.

JD Vance for president.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Except JD Vance was in Hungary last week propping up an anti-democracy authoritarian, Orban. Viktor Orbán steered Hungary toward an "illiberal democracy" by systematically consolidating power, weakening institutional checks, controlling media, and targeting minority rights since 2010. Key actions included packing the Constitutional Court, curbing judicial independence, restructuring electoral laws to favor his Fidesz party, and creating a government-aligned media network. He also attacked minorities, including LGBTQ communities.

JD Vance is also on record stating that Trump is America's Hitler. How does one go from comparing Trump to Hitler, and then serving him? I see Vance as an opportunistic man with no core values, except ambition.

Just recently he said the Pope should stick to speaking out on only moral subjects, not politics. Meanwhile, his boss, Trump, speaks out on nonpolitical subjects, and mocked the Christians' savior by pretending, through an internet meme, that he is Christ-like in his duties as POTUS.

JD Vance is a protege' of Peter Thiel. Vance went from being an author of a best selling book, to a less than 2 years serving US Senator to VP of the US.

Read about Thiel to understand how that happened.

"Peter Thiel does not explicitly "control" JD Vance in a formal sense, but he is widely regarded as his most significant benefactor, mentor, and financial supporter. Thiel provided key backing for Vance's career, including a record-breaking $15 million for his 2022 Senate run and prior mentorship in the tech sector.

$15 million is a heavy investment in Vance for future influence, IMO.

Les Carpenter said...

Why anyone questions the obvious incompetence and indecency of trump is a mystery.

He needs to go. But jd Vance would be but a Fascist Christian Zionist Nationalist light methinks. IOW, not much would change. Other than jd would be more decent while he continued with the Project 2025 and Evangelical Zionist Christian agenda.

2026 mid terms and the 2028 presidential elections will determine the type of nation the US will be for the foreseeable future.

If trumpublicans retain control the people of this nation are screwed.

Trump foreign policy faux pas -

Tension with Israel rose after shots near Italian troops
Israel says Rome's move will have no practical effect
Meloni distances herself from both Israel and Trump"

This is a very good explanation on what happened in Hungary:

"[We} have not won an ally so much as lost an adversary, which is a different and smaller thing."

Dave Miller said...

I get it Shaw, but at this point, anything is better than Trump. And if that anything, with a Congress and probably a Senate, which gets to vote on the next VP is dominated by the Dems, I'll take a Harvard educated Vance, chastened by the Dems, over a self aggrandizing mind addled Trump any day.

skudrunner said...

Dave, I find your comments interesting that if you do not apologize for speaking the truth and hurting someones feelings you are a bad person. Like liberals who cancel friendships because the person is a conservative. I have a number of conservative and liberal friends and the only ones who will cancel a friendship over politics are liberals.

Are the no paper border crosser's without an invitation offended by being called illegals or are you just making a point at my expense. I find it rude that you say I am a trump supporter and act like him I find that offensive. Do I call you a horrible person and should be blackballed from posting, no because you are entitled to your opinion.

Now what do you call someone who commits an illegal act. Are they not illegals?

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud, an ACT is illegal, but not the person. If someone commits a misdemeanor, would you call that person a "misdemeanor?" The act is a misdemeanor, not the person. A person cannot BE a "misdemeanor," a person COMMITS a misdemeanor. Words have meanings.

"It is generally accepted that the act of violating immigration laws is illegal, not the person, as no human being is inherently "illegal". While immigration laws (such as 8 U.S.C. § 1325) criminalize specific actions like illegal entry, the presence of an undocumented person is considered a civil infraction, not a criminal act."

A felon is defined by the legal, formal conviction of a serious crime (a felony), whereas "illegal" is a dehumanizing term applied to a person's existence rather than their actions. A person is called a felon after a court deems them guilty of a crime punishable by over a year in prison.

Do you understand the difference now?

Les Carpenter said...

Yes skud, as criminal as trump is it is not he that is illegal. It is the criminal activity he was found guilty of committing in a court of law that was illegal. trump the person, remains legal (person ='s life, always legal).

Same applies to undocumented individuals.

Dave Dubya said...

Skud is conflating "conservative" with MAGA. They are not the same, even though conservatives are generally more authoritarian and follow Trump. Conservatives with a conscience are not MAGA fascists.

Would a person still be your friend if he supported someone who hates you and calls you the "enemy within"?

Skud doesn't make the connection that a liberal would cut off a friendship with a conservative not because he's conservative, but for revealing himself to be a hateful fascist and willfully ignorant racist who would ignore everything he tried to say to him.

Any values they once shared would now be gone. Who needs friends like that?

skudrunner said...

Ms. Shaw, So a person that commits a crime is not a criminal because the act is criminal not the person. Trump is not a criminal just a person who was involved in a crime. A person who commits a murder is not a murderer because it is the act not the person. So Swalwell is not a rapist but is a person who committed rape and rapist is so dehumanizing. This is going to be very difficult to write anything and we should rewrite the textbooks.

BB-Idaho said...

I'm no lawyer, but Eric Swalwell's fall from grace pales compared to the sexcapades of the anointed apostle of Hades.

Dave Dubya said...

There's a reason Skud won't call Trump or his criminal cartel "illegals".

"Illegal" was never a noun until bigots and racists made it one.

Skud sides with their vile transformation of a word that has always been an adjective.

Merriam Webster: illegal

2 of 2
noun
plural illegals
often disparaging + offensive
: a person who enters or lives in a country without the documentation required for legal entry or residence

Shaw Kenawe said...

A person who commits a crime is a suspect. A person who is CONVICTED of a crime is a CRIMINAL. The same idea is in my answer to your post. A person who commits a felony is a suspect. A person who is convicted of a felony is a felon. Why is that so difficult to understand?

A person who crosses the border without documentation commits a misdemeanor FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE. No one calls someone who does that a "misdemeanor," do they.

What you seem to NOT understand is that we have a system of justice that says a person is innocent until proven GUILTY. You yourself have insisted on this American jurisprudent principle. So someone who commits murder is a murder suspect; and if he/she is CONVICTED by a jury of murder, that person is a murderer.

Now how does one call a person who crosses the border without documents an "illegal?" It makes no senses. A human being cannot be illegal. He/she may commit an illegal action, but he or she is not "illegal!"

Here's a lawyer's explanation based on THE LAW, not someone's "feelings."

"To be completely brief and blunt no, illegal is not the same as criminal. Although these two terms seem similar, and people often use them interchangeably and incorrectly, they are in no way the same thing.

Let us see if we can explain it a bit better. Not every illegal activity is a criminal activity, while, on the other hand, every activity that is deemed a criminal activity is always an illegal activity. For example, driving past the speed limit is an illegal activity, but it is not a criminal activity. On the other hand, committing a homicide is both a criminal activity and an illegal activity.

So, to sum up, illegal activities are all those activities that are punishable by law in a certain way. They can include various civil sanctions, but also various punishments imposed by criminal law. Criminal activities are only those activities that are punishable under criminal law.'

I hope this helps.

Yes. The MAGA Republicans need to sit this one out. They voted TWICE for a man who bragged about sexually assaulting women in the infamous Access Hollywood tape; 20+ women credibly accused Trump of SA, and an actual court of law found Trump to be liable for SA/rape (the judge's words), and yet the MAGA GOP were fine with that. They did not tell Trump to step away from the presidential campaign, nor did they tell him not to run again, EVEN WHEN A COURT OF LAW FOUND HIM TO BE LIABLE FOR SA/RAPE! A court of law also found Trump guilty of a felony. Trump is a convicted felon.

The Democrats got rid of Swalwell, as they should have, so he can fight this out in the courts and not turn the governor's race in California into a legal battle/circus.

The MAGA GOP made Trump the representative of their party and America.

Both parties are NOT the same.

Grey One talks sass said...

Concur with you Shaw that MAGA needs to take a step back in the Swalwell story. Their track record leaves a lot to be desired. If they decide to make amends I'll reconsider but not until amends are made. The promise of a MAGA is worth less than nothing right now.

Want to commend your answers to skud Shaw; as always you provide well reasoned factual responses which is why they will ignore everything you wrote and will continue to lie, move the goal-posts, and pivot everything towards MAGA (which they say they aren't and yet continue to spew MAGA talking points every time they comment. Gaslighting much?)

My own personal observations about the Swalwell issue is what took so long? Mrs. Frazzle had to coordinate with how many people in order to both protect the victims while getting the word out only to discover that everyone "knew" aka an open secret about Swalwells' shenanagins back in 2013!!!!??!!! And no one did anything, just business as usual. The coverup of the Trump-Epstein files makes more sense today.

Well, paradigm of boys will be boys and girls are always responsible is broken per the kids on the socials and they are not gentle when smashing the remaining pieces. I say good for them. I know I stayed quiet because of indifferent cops and a power system that blamed me more than the one who took without any concern of how it would affect me. I know the rage which remains in my heart even though the trauma was years ago and I see in the eyes of the kids a determination to educate humanity as to how one treats one's fellow humans.

Dave - JD Vance??? Really? Please take a closer look because whenever I think about the man I get the awful feeling he's holding back in order to not frighten the MAGA crowd. I truly believe if JD ever gets the presidency whatever vision Peter Theil has in mind will become reality (I think they side with the tech bros at the top and the rest of us as vassals in their dystopian vision of Data and Detention centers for everyone but I could be mistaken).

I've no idea what I did to make my comments go to publish instead of hit error but I'm glad my fingers did whatever was necessary to communicate again. I missed y'all. Sending loves because there isn't enough here/now.

Dave Miller said...

Skud asked... "Now what do you call someone who commits an illegal act. Are they not illegals?"

No Skud, they are not. The word "illegal" or "illegals" as a noun did not even exist in English until the 1930s. I, along with the great majority of linguists, view the word illegal as an adjective, unable to be plural and not a noun.

Most major news organizations have banned the word illegal as a noun or to describe people. Because it is offensive and seen as a racist term.

Further, if people here illegally are captured, they are presumed innocent until proven guilty under our Constitution.

Your statement about speaking truth is pure BS. Why? Because your logic is literally the same logic white southern racists used for years when they spoke of black people. "Why" they asked, "should we stop using the term ni**ger? It's the truth!"

But you don't care about any of that, choosing instead to make 4th grade Trumplike logic your intellectual calling card.

As for people crossing the border without an "invitation", there are at least two groups of people that may fall into this category. One includes people who cross without papers or permission with the intent of staying and working here. They broke a law and are here illegally. They are not illegals.

Two, we have asylum seekers. They also are "uninvited", but under American law have a right to present at a US border station and appeal for entry under our humanitarian laws. While their status is being reviewed, they then receive temporary legal status. So they are not here illegally.

I'm sorry you are offended by the comparisons to Trump. You voted for him at least once and honestly, your viewpoints on more than a few subjects are fully inline with his.

1. You use pejoratives to speak of minorities and immigrants, both legal and illegal.

2. You use infantile language to speak of past US presidents on a regular basis.

3. When you are shown to be wrong, you refuse to apologize and make corrections.

4. You frequently lie about the positions others, like myself, hold and when shown the evidence of your ways, refuse to even acknowledge your errors.

5. You have never shown an ounce of compassion to any of the "least of these" among us who are from outside of your tribe.

6. You show little of no humility on anything.

If you do not want to be compared to Trump, don't act like him.

Dave Miller said...

Grey... I get it on Vance. But at this point, I believe Trump has to go. So what are our options? Besides, as I noted, by the time this could happen, I believe we will have a Dem House and Senate, hearings, court trials and jail terms for many in the Trump, or former Trump Admin.

Dave Miller said...

Shaw... regarding the tendency of ppl like Skud to use the term "illegals" for people here in violation of our immigration laws.

This tendency to vilify people based on actions or skin color has been with us for a long time. As I noted earlier, there was a day when mostly souther whites defended using the word ni**er as a descriptor for black people. Black people of course objected, but those objections were rebuffed with "but it's the truth".

Italians came to this country and soon were called WOPs. That's essentially the present day illegals as WOPs stood for "without papers". Again, to the charge of WOP being offensive, people were met with "but it's the truth".

So we come to ppl like Skud, defending themselves with the same "but it's the truth" line, unwilling to concede or care about finding a more humane or accurate way to describe people.

It really is a choice, a choice to live peacefully and humanely in a multicultural, pluralistic society.

I've said for years there are many conservative ideas, like some Skud has shared, that could be good for America. But few liberals and a decreasing number of independents will ever hear those ideas because of decisions of conservatives to not care how they, or their words are perceived.

It never ceases to amaze why people would persist in using outdated and even offensive terms when those terms are offensive to so many people. It's not that we can't endure hearing those terms. It's more a question of why we should respect someone who chooses to use offensive language, once they've been informed.

That's not how you live in polite society.
