Dr. Fauci went into the hearing knowing Rand Paul had publicly stated that he wants Dr. Fauci in prison.
Dr. Fauci was right to follow his lawyer's advice to take the 5th, and Rand Paul is a disgrace for saying Dr. Fauci will face "repercussions" for invoking his Constitutionally guaranteed rights.
Today's hearing was a debacle.
"...show trials are bad for democracy and do nothing to get us closer to either truth or consensus. Hanging over every conversation about what happened during the pandemic of the recent past is anxiety about what might happen should we face a pandemic in the near future. In projecting all of a difficult era’s conflicts onto Dr. Fauci, Republicans evade the harder work of figuring out what we actually should learn from his, and our, mistakes." --Rachel Bedard, MD, New York Times

The trump train of distraction from truth and retribution for whomever the MAGA Fuhrer deems deserving of it.
America (Amerika today) has become just another Banana Republic under the trump MAGA regime.
An empire refusing to recognize its own decline and decent into authoritarian fascism under the trumpster.
trump, MAGA republicans, and ICE are following the Nazi playbook in a way that would make Hitler smile.
Show trials are part of our political system. Look at Kavanaugh, Garland and now falsi. It is all theater and nothing will be done in any of these. Lets see maxwell go to a public trial and just like falsi she will go free. The person who considers himself the doctor to the stars did nothing but harm the people he was suppose to help.
Dr. Fauci appeared before a Congressional HEARING, not a trial.
I assume you mean Ghislaine Maxwell. She was already convicted of sex trafficking of a minor, transporting a minor to participate in illegal sex acts, and related conspiracy charges for helping Jeffrey Epstein groom and abuse underage girls -- IOW, she is one of the lowest forms of life, trafficking children to rich and powerful people to rape.
The Trump administration's Department of Justice transferred Maxwell to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas, though her crimes and 20-year sentence remained unchanged. Her sentence was not reduced, but the move caused public and congressional outrage regarding preferential treatment because she was Trump's friend, and he wished her "well."
Imagine the president of the US wishing a child sex trafficker well!
Your accusation about Dr. Fauci as "the doctor to the stars did nothing but harm the people he was suppose[sic] to help" is an accusation not based in fact. It's your opinion, which you're entitled to.
You've swallowed the MAGA propaganda being sold to people who won't take the effort to find the facts. That's a real shame.
Meanwhile, surveys from sources like the Annenberg Public Policy Center indicate that more than 50% of Americans express trust in Dr. Fauci regarding public health matters.
While you are entitled to your own opinions, you are NOT entitled to your own facts.
Dr. Fauci is widely considered an exceptional and highly accomplished scientist within the scientific and medical communities, recognized for his extensive research in immunology and decades of public service leadership. He has authored or co-authored over 1,400 scientific publications and papers throughout his long career.
Sure, there are a lot of people who denigrate Dr. Fauci and think what he did was a crime. Those same people voted 3 times for a convicted felon, adjudicated sexual assaulter/rapist who wished a woman well who trafficked children to rich and powerful people to rape.
I'm with the scientists and others who admire Dr. Fauci for the work he's done in his long and successful career, not with the people who admire felons and sexual assaulters/rapists.
skud would make a great straight man in a fantasy comedy hour.
OT:
The sailors on the Mother Ship are having a conversation about using the word "F**k" in public as a Congressman did yesterday in the Dr. Fauci hearings and as Trump did in the Oval Office to a Fox News correspondent:
"Trump says US will 'beat the f------ s--- out of them' after Iran launches surprise missile strike."
Our frequent commenter, Joe Conservative, had this to say about Trump's profanity-laced comment:

Not saying the word “f*ck” today signals a LACK of authentic seriousness. Sorry Z.

That the office of the President is saying it DOUBLES its’ signaled seriousness."
I'm wondering if JoeCon and his other personas think Trump's "authenticity signaling" extends to the fact that he was authentically friends with child sex traffickers for decades (and is implicated many, many times in the Epstein files), and that his justice department "authentically" softened child sex trafficker, Maxwell"s, prison surroundings to minimum security -- something that has no precedence in The BOP. Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) rules generally disqualify inmates convicted of sex offenses from being placed in minimum-security prison camps.
I wonder what kind of "authenticity" Trump was going for in being lenient to a child sex trafficker? Was he going for the pedophilia demographic vote -- because, y'know, by NOT being nice and accommodating to child sex traffickers/rapists, signals a LACK of authentic seriousness.
-FJ/JC is cool with pedophiles and their abettors, as long as they are his fellow MAGA Republicans.
He's cool with filling concentration camps with kids and non-violent immigrants as well.
And why not? Sociopaths like him and Musk see empathy as weakness and delight in the suffering in people they hate. Who could nazi that all along?
Good questions. Perhaps the visiting MAGA's will address them.
The Trump administration is arguing in court that even a cancer diagnosis isn't enough to claim an exemption from his draconian new Medicaid work requirements.
Now this the "authentic seriousness" that -FJ/JC admires.
Well, it appears that there are people who believe that being a person of low, base, and vulgar character is a sign of authenticity. Maybe the MAGA political party should put up as its next candidate for high office a feral pig?
Oh. Wait.
I followed his instructions, had all the shots, wore a mask, stayed my distance. Never had Covid during the pandemic. Middle daughter a professor of virology and immunology thought he was great. R. Paul was an ophthalmologist and knowing nothing of viruses, caught the Covid himself. Just copy cat of revenge politics he learned from the Expert of Wall things.
Know what's draconian? A moral hazard like welfare/ Medicaid that perpetuates a viscious cycle of government dependency.
At the end of the day, I believe most people in government and medicine, Fauci included, were trying their best to keep Americans safe.
As someone who was traveling between the US and Mexico in the middle of Covid, I can attest that everywhere, it was a mess. No one seemed to have a good handle on much of anything.
We're there missteps? Yes there were. I lost friends who had their lungs blown apart as hospital staff in Mexico were learning how to use vents for the first time. Literally experimenting on patients, trying to save their lives.
The chattering classes on You Tube, outside the corner store, and yes, on a lot of blogs, for the most part knew, and know nothing. Except of course what they learned "doing their own research".
In reality, most of that research was aimed at finding the latest charlatan who would back up what they already believed.
Fauci did the best he could. Cuomo too. My governor and probably yours. Working doctors and nurses did also. Teachers as well.
If Congress was really interested in helping us be better prepared for the next pandemic, what we saw the other day is not what we need. We need some sober self reflection, hindsight evaluation and honest self critique.
But that will never happen in our current climate.
All I can say is that in early March 2020, my entire family was pretty scared. And that included many former and current nurses. Covid was not a hoax, and if you'd like, I'll give you my list of dead friends.
It was deadly, serious and everywhere.
Humanity did the best we could and we failed. We still are in my opinion. At least in the US.
Perhaps a warthog as their next candidate?
You know the moral hazard we are witnessing and living through as I type this?
The Iran War. I won't list the insane reasons we were dragged into it. But to say Medicaid is a moral hazard is absurd.
The Iran War is a war of choice.
Americans who are on Medicaid are, for the most part, there because of our cruel and inhuman health care system that punishes the poor and middle class, IOW, a majority of Americans. The rich never have to worry about catastrophic illnesses or accidents. This is a scandal.
The main recipients of Medicaid are children, lower-income adults, and people with disabilities or senior citizens. The program provides joint federal-state health coverage to more than 70 million low-income Americans.
Children: Make up the single largest group of enrollees at roughly 38% to 47% of all participants, covering nearly 40% of all children in the U.S. and paying for about 2 in 5 births nationwide.
Are American children "moral hazards?" Should the richest country in the world tell poor and even middle class children, "Tough!" You're sick? You're hurt? And your parents can't cover the health care costs? Well. Tough. You should've been born rich, and you wouldn't have a problem!
Non-Elderly Low-Income Adults: Includes parents, pregnant people, and low-income adults covered heavily through ACA expansion guidelines.
People with Disabilities and Older Adults (Seniors): Comprise about 22% of total enrollees but use over half of all program expenditures due to high requirements for nursing homes and long-term care supports.
This post is about the disgraceful attack on Dr. Fauci yesterday by the MAGA cultists.
I did the same. I did get COVID in December 2022, but it was nothing worse than a cold. No fever, no headaches, sore throat, no cough, nothing but stuffy nose and sneezing.
the Mothership seems to have the opposite opinion.
On the bright side one of the Goa'uld got angry with
