A commenter here on P.E. posted, "The dems have stated that they are going prosecute trump and bring impeachment proceedings as their main objective so there will be fireworks and get nothing done which with the total incompetence of congress is not a bad thing."
Should we let Trump get away with what he's done in the first two years of his second term? And if so, why?
Would the commenter -- who apparently thinks it's a waste of time to bring a president to accountability for high crimes and misdemeanors -- would that commenter feel the same way if a Democratic POTUS had done what Trump has done while president?

President Trump recently acknowledged that the monuments rising from his architectural ambitions in Washington are, at least in part, monuments to himself.
When asked about it, he replied: “That’s true. Nobody will do it once I’m gone. When I leave here, nobody will.”
Perhaps that is precisely the point.
George Washington did not build the Washington Monument.
Abraham Lincoln did not commission the Lincoln Memorial. Thomas Jefferson did not erect the Jefferson Memorial. Those monuments were built after they were gone, by a grateful nation that had time to judge their accomplishments, their character and their place in history.
Great leaders do not need to build monuments to themselves. They build a record and leave the judgment to generations that follow.
There is something profoundly revealing about a president who apparently fears that if he does not construct his own monuments while he possesses the power to do so, no one will build them after he is gone.
Monuments are supposed to represent the gratitude of a nation, not the vanity of the person occupying its highest office.
So when Mr. Trump says, “Nobody will do it once I’m gone,” maybe he should ask himself why.
And perhaps the rest of us should remember:
The greatest monument a president can leave behind is not made of marble, stone or gold.
It is a country made better because he was there.

It's a waste of time because there is no possibility of the Senate voting to remove him, which would take 67 votes. He's done plenty of things that deserve impeachment, but as long as he can't actually be removed, it would be just meaningless symbolism and posturing.
If the Democrats win Congress, they need to focus on the issues voters care about, like grocery prices, housing costs, and data centers. Actually doing something about those will require some degree of cooperation with Trump (or Vance, assuming he takes over at some point in the next two years). That's just how the system works. The activist fringe wants to see a bunch of posturing and scorched-earth political infighting, but mainstream voters want practical results on real issues.

Oh, that's adorable. The second time you say? DHS and ICE have defied and ignored over a hundred court orders demanding they cease and desist in kidnapping innocent people and deporting them without due process. That's one hundred court orders just this year. According to every legal source I've read that's an unheard of number. And those numbers are just for the immigrants. There are more for the US Citizens snatched off the streets for the crime of existing while BIPOC.
This reminds me of the time when skud and I were arguing back and forth when Trump was running the first time. They kept bringing up That ONE time Obama "lied" (you can keep your doctor) a statement that was correct when he made it but wasn't reflected in the bill which passed. Obama made amends and never said it again. Contrast that to Trumps claim to fame of not only lying so much that the fact checkers created the Pinocchio rating system but then had to retire it when Trumps lies numbered in the thousands.
As far as I can tell the young folks posting about politics aren't a one issue person. They are all about everything all the time. It's housing and food while also going after the corruption which brought us here/now. As I see it the way my fellow olds have practiced politics is over. Kids have a new game and they are crushing it already.

I did not vote for trump and if I was a republican I still would not vote for him. I am always looking for a competent candidate but that is getting difficult because both parties have bat shi- crazy nominees.

Unfortunately you are correct. There are far to many voters on both sides who vote for the party and not the person. There is to much money spent on elections it has become raise enough money and you can buy your seat. Limit the total amount spent on elections would be a good start.

A situation where billionaire and multi-millionaires can purchase the elections that gives them the power to further enrich themselves and the corporations they control.
All while advocating for and supporting the dissolution of the safety nets millions upon millions of less fortunate people depend on.
Afterall, it's so very important that the presnit trump could make 2.3 billion since assuming office again, that Stinkon Musk hit the trillionaire mark, that the country has spent 40 billion (and rising) fighting trump's war of choice with Iran, that the national debt stands at 40 trillion and continues to reach for new heights, etc. All while more and more Americans struggle to make ends meet.
