If you visit right wing blogs and news sites, you'll see them making excuses and dismissing the attempted coup d'etat by Trump's insurrectionists. They refuse to see what happened on Jan. 6 for what it was. Instigated by Trump, the insurrectionists wanted to overthrow the government of the  United States, TRUMP'S OWN GOVERNMENT! And give Trump the presidency that HE LOST.

The bloggers and news sites refuse to see the truth of what Trump and his armed thugs were trying to accomplish.

Trump needs to be impeached and found guilty and never be allowed to hold political office again.

What he really has coming to him is prison time for what he incited. Many of the folks who participated in the January 6 insurrection will go to jail. For a long, long time.

America has laws that punish people who try to overthrow the U.S. government. And we have names for people who do that: TRAITORS.

Self-styled militia members planned on storming the U.S. Capitol days in advance of Jan. 6 attack, court documents say “You are executing citizen’s arrest. 

Arrest this assembly, we have probable cause for acts of treason, election fraud,” a man replied, according to audio recordings of communications between Watkins and others during the incursion. “We are in the main dome right now. We are rocking it. They are throwing grenades, they are fricking shooting people with paint balls. But we are in here,” a woman believed to be Watkins said, according to court documents. 

A man then responds, “Get it, Jess,” adding, “This is . . . everything we f---ing trained for!” 

The FBI said it recovered the exchange from Zello, a push-to-talk, two-way radio phone app. FBI charging papers against Caldwell, Watkins and a third person, former U.S. Marine Donovan Crowl, 50, allege that Caldwell and others coordinated in advance to disrupt Congress, scouted for lodging and recruited Oath Keepers members from North Carolina and like-minded groups from the Shenandoah Valley. 

The group claims thousands of members who assert the right to defy government orders they deem improper. The plotters both anticipated violence and continued to act in concert after the break-in, investigators alleged in court documents. FBI papers also say that Caldwell suggested a similar event at the local level after the attack, saying in a message: “Lets storm the capitol in Ohio. Tell me when!”

BIDEN DISCOVERS TRUMP ADMIN HAD NO VACCINE PLAN 

Pres. Biden delivers remarks on his administration’s immediate efforts to combat the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 400,000 Americans and infected more than 24 million others. 

Yesterday, three of the more than a dozen executive actions Biden signed were regarding coronavirus. He launched a nationwide 100-day mask mandate, moved to rejoin the World Health Organization, and reinstated the Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense—the pandemic preparedness team organized by the Obama administration following the Ebola outbreak but then dismantled by the Trump administration. 

One of Biden’s focal points on battling the virus is to increase the rate of vaccinations across the country, saying that he hopes to vaccinate 100 million Americans in his first 100 days. However, sources close to the administration told CNN that yesterday, Biden and others learned that the Trump administration did not leave any vaccine distribution plans. 

‘There is nothing for us to rework,’ one source explained. ‘We are going to have to build everything from scratch.’

 The chief usher was sacked, and the staff was sent home early Wednesday, which may explain why the Bidens arrived to find the doors to the North Portico closed.

One of Donald and Melania Trump’s final small acts in a presidential transition charitably described as grudging was to send White House ushers home for the day on Wednesday morning, leaving the new first family to fend for themselves upon entering, according to several informed sources.

“The Trumps sent the butlers home when they left so there would be no one to help the Bidens when they arrived,” a well-placed official not associated with the incoming Biden team told National Journal. “So petty.”

The no-shows apparently included chief usher Timothy Harleth. Sources familiar with what happened confirm that Harleth, a former executive of Trump Hotels hired by Melania Trump, was summarily fired by the Trumps before they left—not by the Bidens, as has been widely reported.

Harleth was shown the door before the Bidens reached the door at the North Portico on Wednesday afternoon for their first official entrance as president and first lady. Video of their arrival showed them waving to photographers and hugging for the cameras for more than a minute—longer than typical presidential photo ops—before approaching the entrance with their family. The heavy doors swung open from within about 15 seconds later.

“It’s a big protocol breach for the president to ever stand in front of a closed door at the White House,” a veteran White House social expert said.

That same source suggested Harleth’s sacking might be to blame: "That may be why there was nobody to open the doors to the Bidens. You couldn’t expect the Biden staff to know to do that. Doors are opened and closed by ushers. There are rules about all these things and everyone has their job.”

“It doesn’t strike me as strange at all that the doors were closed as it made for a nicer photo for the Bidens, which I bet the advance team requested,” another former senior White House official added. “But what should have happened is that a Biden staff member should have alerted the usher or staff person on the other side of that door that it was time to open it. That was a staff mistake.”

Sidelining the ushers and sacking their boss amidst the most chaotic, intense several hours for any White House—moving one president and his family out and another in—was perhaps the final break with precedent at the end of a wholly unorthodox transition, several sources confirmed. Neither Trump met with the Bidens, transition meetings were delayed by several weeks, and Trump administration officials withheld sensitive foreign policy and national security information.

Harleth was considered an unabashed Trump loyalist in White House circles but had told associates he was hoping to stay on with the new regime. That was never going to happen beyond a decent interval, insiders told National Journal, mainly because of his close ties to the Trumps and ongoing friction between him and the scrupulously nonpartisan household staff. In November, he fired some long-serving residence staff, depriving Jill Biden and her East Wing team of more institutional experience and complicating the transition.

Former spokespersons from the Trump White House had no information about the matter. Trump representatives in Florida and Harleth could not be reached for comment. Biden White House officials had no comment.

As of Thursday, “the [usher] staff is back in place,” an official familiar with the kerfuffle confirmed.

 Emerson once said of Lincoln’s presidency “an institution is the lengthened shadow of a man.” He was right. Trump’s cruelty, division, insurrection, treason and corruption are unrivaled in history. He is the nadir of presidential leadership. He was enabled by the weak, the venal, the desperate, and the compromised. 

It was empowered by voices normalizing and rationalizing his evils. His abuse of power should come as no surprise. There are no better angels in Donald Trump’s nature. There was never a bottom. There was never any maturation, self-reflection, or a “day he became president.” 

 It would always end this way. 

 A life free of consequence, accountability, justice, or moral reckonings put a man in charge of this nation with no guiderails, no boundaries, no ethical compass. 

The American carnage from his inaugural address was real, and he embodied every iota of it. 

The claque of his sycophants will haunt us for a generation. They will try to clean up his philosophy and embody his authoritarianism while wearing better suits and waving credentials. 

His cult will await the second coming and his spawn will run for office. 

For all that, he is defeated. 

A pariah, a failure, and a traitor the the Constitution and the country. 

Good won over evil. 

It’s that simple. 

Decency won over indecency. 

America checked a hard slide into the darkness, blessed by providence or luck.

January 19, 2021 Part II

We will soon have a president who listens to scientists instead of conspiracy theorists, experts instead of provocateurs, and trusted legal minds instead of pillow salesmen.

Our new president will consider the human toll of the raging pandemic before his political posturing.

Our new president will defend the values of liberal democracy, instead of abandoning our allies and cozying up to autocrats and oppressors.

Our new president will work for all Americans—not just himself and the priveleged few.

Reaching this day was years in the making. November’s election did not occur in a vacuum.

It took all of you Patriots in this coalition to fight for democracy and deliver Joe Biden’s victory.

It took millions of Americans standing up for what is right versus what is so clearly wrong.

This is our time.

And this is our new president.

The white supremacist terrorist and Trump supporter, Peter Stager of Arkansas, who beat a cop with the American flag, is arrested:

"To Trump’s cult “Blue Lives Matter” is meaningless. Obviously, so is the American Flag, the Capitol, and the rule of law. An Arkansas man accused of beating a police officer with a pole flying a U.S. flag during last week’s riot at the U.S. Capitol has been arrested. In an arrest affidavit filed Thursday in federal court in Washington, an FBI agent said Peter Francis Stager is shown in video and photographs striking a prone police officer repeatedly with the flagpole after rioters dragged the officer down the Capitol’s west stairs. 

The affidavit says confidential informants had recognized Stager in riot video and photographs and alerted authorities, who have charged Stager with interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder. A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Little Rock, Arkansas, confirmed Stager was in custody Thursday. No attorney was listed for Stager in court records. " --Lee Arnold, via AP News

A Capitol Police officer was forced to dodge a chair hurled at him while he was trying to bring down a security door as rioters flooded into the Capitol. But the pro-Trump rioters stopped the door from locking into place, allowing them to continue rushing in. 

As the officer turned to move away from the scene, a voice can be heard shouting “You’re scared now, motherfucker.”
