WHY DOES THE GOP KEEP SUPPORTING IDIOTS LIKE MICHELE BACHMANN?

UPDATE FROM (O)CT(O)PUS BELOW.

Bachmann actually got up in front of people and said the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery?

This is grindingly cringe-worthy idiocy.  But not for the Tea Party--which apparently rewards stupidity and actually encourages it.

If my child came home from school and said his American history teacher claimed what Bachmann claimed, I would demand that teacher be fired as a monumental incompetent.   Yet this stupid woman is appearing in Iowa with the hope of being nominated as her party's candidate for president?

What has happened to this country that people as illiterate and dumb as Michele Bachmann can attain not just the position of US Representative but, incredibly, entertain the hope of being president without having the slightest understanding of the history of this country?

But more important, what about the people of the 6th Congressional district of Minnesota?  They are the ones who contine to keep this dunderhead in office.  Can an entire congressional district be that soft-witted?  Apparently, yes.  I guess even gormless people need representation too, and Bachmann is their choice.
The Tea Party, which supports this irredeemable dunce, should be ashamed of  going within 10 feet of this jerk, let alone supporting and encouraging her to seek high office.

The Tea Party cannot be considered a serious movement so long as they continue to support people like Carl Paladino, Sarah Palin, and Michele Bachmann--people who are ignorant and proud of their ignorance and who have no intention of correcting their imbecility.

Here's the video of this unfortunate woman making an ass of herself for all the world to witness.  These are the kinds of pols the Tea Party admires:  Jabbering idiots.

Please link to this post by our friend (O)CT(O)PUS over at TSZ, which supplies more details on the Bachmann debacle.

Pathetic. No wonder we are a nation of ignoramuses, present company excepted of course.

To answer your initial question: because they are skeered little boys, even the girls.

According to C&L, CNN is going to carry her remarks after Obama's speech.

Shaw Kenawe said...

tnlib,

That has never happened in cable news history--that any cable news station would broadcast a splinter group's rebuttal to a SOTUS.

Why are they carrying it for this moron?

maybe the stupids in our population need a representative to rebut the president's address, and michele bachmann is the perfect stupid to do it?

Yes. Just like Abraham Lincoln worked tirelessly to ensure that the United States would be the first country to put a man on the Moon.

Yet this stupid woman is appearing in Iowa with the hope of being nominated as her party's candidate for president?

Hope isn't the same as possibility. Don't forget all the people confined in rooms with rubber wallpaper who firmly believe that they already are President.

Why are they carrying it for this moron?

Because Palin proved that there's a market for media coverage of photogenic idiots. Astrology is way stupider than anything Bachmann says, and the media have been running horoscopes since forever. It's all a matter of what they think can get an audience.

INFIDEL: "It's all a matter of what they think can get an audience."

This is the essence of why Palin and Bachmann get coverage by media each time they come out with a foolish comment--it gets an audience.

The Palinbots like to say we liberals are "afraid" of Sarah, or that she makes our heads explode.

In a sense we are afraid of her--but in this sense: Would anyone with a functioning brain allow a intellectually-challenged know-nothing the codes to nuclear weapons?

As for our heads exploding, they do that, for sure, but they explode with hilarity each time she opens her mouth and makes an unintelligble statement or an outrageously silly lie.

Being "afraid" of Palin is like being "afraid" of a squirrel--annoying? yes, but terrifying? no.

Shaw Kenawe said...

J Mopper,

We can send the "false fact" file to our friend "Lisa" who is proud to post them on her blog.

It astounds me when the Tea Partiers promote people like Bachmann. The TPs dress up like the Founding Fathers and talk about the Constitution in reverent terms, yet they adore nitwits like Bachmann who clearly know nothing about the Founding Fathers or the Constitution.

This is why I don't take the TPs seriously as a movement--they don't take themselves seriously, otherwise, they'd shun charlatans like Bachmann and Palin.

I agree, it's crazy to broadcast a rebuttal from a fringe group to SOTU, and the news media is just giving them legitimacy.....and don't you just think it's driving the GOP regulars nuts?

Usually fringe lunatics who get media exposure end up exposing themselves, ala Joe McCarthy, George Wallace, and David Duke.....so let it be with Bachmann, Palin & Company.

BTW....if any Rightie fans of Michelle are reading this, please forward the following idea for a Christmas present for the Congresswoman; THE CIVIL WAR by Ken Burns. You can find it at PBS.com.

Oh...I forgot....those guys want to do away with PBS.

My bad.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Hugh,

You are so right. The more exposure these people get the more emboldened they become to express their ignorance to the wide world.

Palin couldn't keep her mouth shut in the aftermath of the Tucson shooting and as a result, her numbers tanked. Toe nail fungus is more popular than she is right now.

Hmmmmm.

Let Bachmann, Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity and the rest of the fringies talk and talk.

Leslie Parsley said...

OTOH, the more exposure these people get, the better likelihood that most people will see them for the idiots they are. Palin has tripped herself up by over-exercising her mouth. MB will do the same.

billy pilgrim said...

perhaps cnn just wanted to give her enough rope to hang herself.

give these fools enough exposure and maybe more people will see them for what they are.

Sue said...

Billy makes a good point, sometimes the liberal leaning hosts will let a moron wingnut like Bachmann talk and talk and talk, and it's just for that reason, the more the country hears their stupidity the faster they fall from grace. Or we can hope! Bachmanns re-election wins speaks volumes about her constituents. Dumber than dirt!

mebbe she was dropped on her hears at birth so much so that it effected her brain

I listened to Michele's comments several times just to make sure I heard what I thought I heard.

I think Billy's right. In addition to allowing Michele Bachmann to expose her stupidity and provide SNL with free material, CNN's airing of her response to the SOTU also illustrates how fractured the GOP is right now.

Shaw,
Last night, I rewrote a post to reflect Rachel Maddow's latest revelation concerning CNN's airing of Bachmann's Tea Party Express speech. What Dr. Maddow uncovered: Bachmann's speech was a PR placement, not a legitimate news story. The implication points to a fundamental conflict of interest that compromises the integrity of cable news journalism.

I am bringing this to the attention of readers with hopes that our extended netroots communities might focus on this issue and raise a big stink.

How can we maintain a viable democracy when propagandists and hacks game the system? There is much at stake here. If the American public cannot rely on accurate and honest news, then our entire system of governance is at risk.

Les Carpenter said...

I am not all that convinced Bachmann is stupid. Playing to an uneducated group of admirers perhaps but blame that score on the failure of the system to actually educate.

Bachmann is an opportunist capitalizing on the situation to gain an advantage.

Conservatives, independent or otherwise who think view these comments in the context they should be taken.

Bachmann has no chance of winning the nomination let alone the Presidency.

As to her limited government position, that is what she ought to stick with.

Shaw Kenawe said...

"I am not all that convinced Bachmann is stupid."--RN-USA

I don't know how else to describe a person who thinks the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery.

Or when she refused to back down from her claim [which was false] that President Obama was going to spend $200 million dollars a day for his trip to India.

Or this lie:

"Speaker Pelosi ... has been busy sticking the taxpayer with her $100,000 bar tab for alcohol on the military jets that she's flying." --M.Bachmann

How would one describe all of Bachmann's lies and misstatements?

Slow to learn or understand; obtuse?
Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish?
Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes?

Those are all definitions of "stupid."

I've listened to a lot of conservatives say with conviction and without a scintilla of doubt that Mr. Obama is a socialist, despite evidence to the contrary.

But I've yet to hear any conservative with the courage to call out dimwits like Bachmann, even with evidence all over the place to prove her lack of intelligence and worse, her willingness to repeat lies.

Shaw,
Taking tnlib's lead, I visited the CNN website and found a John King video that asked, "What do you think of Michelle Bachmann?"

There were only 6 'defanged' comments under the video followed by this message: Comments have been closed for this article.

It appears CNN will give our side absolutely no voice whatsoever, not even by posting our comments.

I am done with CNN. And with Comcast taking over NBC, where will we go from here? Shall I ask Canada for political asylum?

With respect to that tired "socialism' trope, it is merely a PR invention, and the Ryan memorandum says it all: Corporate America wants to shift the tax burden onto the middle class and win more tax breaks for the wealthy and themselves.

Sue said...

Is CNN turning into another Faux Nooz?? John King interviewed all republicans before Obamas SOTU speech. Well, before I turned it off, it was one republican after another...

Sorry OT. It's not getting reported in the press yet but a Limbaugh fan sent a racist death threat to a California Congress. The letter is on Daily Kos for anyone to see.

Shaw Kenawe said...

kid,

Can you provide a link? I went to dailykos, but couldn't find it. I'm going to try to google it.

Shaw Kenawe said...

kid,

Found it at ThinkProgress:

California Lawmaker Receives Racist Death Threat Warning ‘Rush Limbaugh Will Kick Your Ch-nk Ass’
Last week, California State Sen. Leland Yee (D) called on right-wing hate radio host Rush Limbaugh to apologize for mocking Chinese President Hu Jintao and the Chinese language by speaking gibberish “ching chong chang” Chinese on his radio program. Yee, who is Chinese-American and chairs the state Senate Select Committee on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, said Limbaugh owes the Chinese-American community an apology for his “pointless and ugly offense.” Naturally, Limbaugh did not apologize, and instead railed against Yee the following day on his radio, calling him out repeatedly by name.

Yee’s call for civility did not sit well with one Limbaugh fan, who responded by sending several racist death threats to Yee’s office this week. “Rush Limbaugh will kick your chink ass and expose you for the fool you are,” the faxes read, threatening him with “death” (warning, contains racial expletives):

Let's see. Beck tells his audience to shoot liberals in the head, Palin puts gunsights over Congressinal representative's head, Angle talks about Second Amendment solutions if she doesn't win, and Limbaugh has a dittohead threatening, with racist language, a Congressman?

What more do the American people need as evidence of these unhinged people?

Are these the sort of people we want in leadership positions?

Have we lost our minds?

Shaw,
Here is the statement by Rachel Maddow that makes CNN a co-conspirator in the Tea Party Express scam:

"CNN presented an alternate reality of their own making, one in which their debate partner officially speaks for the Tea Party and in which the Tea Party is a co-equal third party of equal stature to the Democrats and the Republicans. And CNN has a competitive and potential financial interest in selling you that alternate reality as if it is news."

It should also be point out that Sal Russo, the PR guy heading the TPE, received donations from citizens who believed the TPE was a 501C non-profit charity when in fact all funds went into the coffers of his PR firm ... meaning Russo was fraudulently lining his own pockets.

What a slimy stink hole CNN got itself suckered into!

Shaw Kenawe said...

(O)CT(O),

I think the current conservative movement, excluding a few brave souls, are wallowing in that stink hole and will remain there until they grow big enough cajones to reject swine like Limbaugh (see my newest blog post), Beck, and the half-wits like Bachmann and Palin.
