When we look at the individuals who make up the base of the GOP--the Tea Party crowd,--we see people who cheer when a governor brags about executing people, we witness people who whoop loudly at the suggestion that an uninsured man should be left to die; and most recently, we see these "Support The Troops" yeehaws BOO! a soldier serving in Iraq, because that soldier is teh gaii.
If those horrors aren't enough to curdle your kidneys, then the latest nincompoopery from the NRA will:
Wayne LaPierre, one of the NRA’s highest-profile leaders, speaking at the CPAC:
“[The Obama campaign] will say gun owners — they’ll say they left them alone,”
Possibly. And if the Obama campaign were to say that, it would be the truth. But LaPierre adds this:
“In public, he’ll remind us that he’s put off calls from his party to renew the Clinton [assault weapons] ban, he hasn’t pushed for new gun control laws… "
Another truth. So what is LaPierre's point?
"The president will offer the 2nd Amendment lip service and hit the campaign trail saying he's actually been good for the 2nd Amendment.”
Which, of course he has. President Obama has actually e x p a n d e d gun rights.
LaPierre surely knows this, but he can't get his NRA members to keep sending in those checks if the president he opposes actually, y'know, is not doing anything to endager the 2nd Amendment, not even hinting at it but, in FACT, expanding gun rights for Americans. So where does that leave Mr. LaPierre?
LaPierre has decided to buy himself one of the biggest, ugliest, homes in Crazy Town and here's the address:
“But it’s a big fat stinking lie!” the NRA leader exclaimed. “It’s all part of a massive Obama conspiracy to deceive voters and destroy the 2nd Amendment in our country.
Whoa! LaPierre is asserting that because President Obama is NOT doing a thing to curtail gun rights it means that he is actually in a conspiracy to destroy gun rights. Got that?
But wait, LaPierre explains how this works:
“Obama himself is no fool. So when he got elected, they concocted a scheme to stay away from the gun issue, lull gun owners to sleep and play us for fools in 2012. Well, gun owners are not fools and we are not fooled."
“… President Obama and his cohorts, yeah, they’re going to deny their conspiracy to fool gun owners. Some in the liberal media, they are already probably blogging about it. But we don’t care because the lying, conniving Obama crowd can kiss our Constitution!”
So in LaPierre's twisted paranoia, if Mr. Obama were to suggest that everyone's guns be taken away, that would really mean that Mr. Obama is SUPPORTING gun owners' rights? And he'd be qualified to be the president of the NRA?
BTW, I just realized that Mr. Obama has recently said nothing about kidnapping college Republicans and eating their brains on the White House balconey, so it's obvious that's exactly what he will do!
Someone, quick, call Glenn Beck!

LaPierre, to my knowledge, has not announced his intention to check himself into some facility where qualified mental-health professionals could try to treat him for his delusional thinking. So he may very well be planning on doing just that.
It would certainly be a good idea, anyway.
I often wonder which one is the more dishonest shithead. Wayne LaPierre or Grover Norquist.
This is a tactic that the NRA has used since the Waco fiasco. I used to belong to them but stopped renewing my membership when it became clear that reality had little to do with their fundraising pitches. They actually do some great things with teaching gun safety and encouraging hunting, but they have gotten so far from reality with their politics that it is just ridiculous.
Infidel753,
If I, too, had't heard of LaPierre's non-announcement, does that mean a tree didn't fall in the forest?
Truth101,
Apparently LaPierre is getting his information by reading pig intestines, and we all know what's in pig intestines.
Time,
LaPierre always panders to gun hysteria--it's all about raising money.
Sorry. That last comment should be addressed to "Tim," not "Time." Fingers not so nimble today.
ya, I have heard shit like that before.... if guns are outlawed.... the squirrels and rabbits will get 'em from us and shoot us!
So Shaw, were you at those early meetings? Hmmm, you seem to fit right in... trying to trick us with facts again... are you being paid?
And if you are not, can you prove you are not being paid as part of this conspiracy?
LOL...
Apparently some crazy email about a UN treaty that would repeal the 2nd Amendment has been ciruclating in the conservative/Tea Party universe. Both PolitiFact and FactCheck.org have refuted the claim, but that doesn't stop the low-information crazies from promoting the lie that Mr. Obama wants to take away Americans' guns.
The fact that two fact finding organizations debunk this buncomb doesn't deter them from believing the fantasy.
Most of these people wouldn't understand a fact if it sat on their faces.
Here's an example of their hysteria.
These are the sorts of people who believe Bachmann, Perry, and Palin are "brilliant."
buncombE
Shaw, nice try on the facts on that blog.
The problem is that when people are convinced that something bad will happen, they are able to concoct a path to that perceived disaster in a matter of minutes.
I am sure you will either get a response calling you names, or just be ignored, because there is no real rational response.
It would be like if I was say if we elect a Republican to White House they will work to dismantle Social Security.
Oh wait, that's actually true...
My bad...
