‘I Never Foresaw So Much Hate Coming From The President’ --Robert Zimmerman

The father of the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, Robert Zimmerman, was interviewed recently; and while speaking about his son's involvment in the tragedy and the firestorm that has surrounded it, he stated: "I never foresaw so much hate coming from the president."

Below are President Obama's remarks on the Trayvon Martin killing in response to a reporter's direct question to him about the matter:

From the Miami Herald:

"Noting that his attorney general is looking into the case, the president prefaced his remarks by saying it was important he was not “impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now.”

“I can only imagine what these parents are going through,” the president said, adding that he couldn’t help but think about his daughters. “I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this.

“My main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin,” he added. “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon. I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.”

The president said he was pleased to hear that Florida Gov. Rick Scott has appointed a task force to look into the incident. “I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen,”

I challenge anyone to find an ounce of "hate" in that statement by the president.

There isn't any, of course. In fact, George Zimmerman isn't even mentioned in it, so where does his father get the idea that the president is promoting hate toward him? This is the massive problem with the rightwingers. They've decided that this president is evil, hateful, and any other pejorative they can fling at him despite all evidence to the contrary.

You can see with your own eyes what Mr. Obama said, and then understand, when you read Robert Zimmerman's statement, why this country is so divided. The rightwingers' devotion to "false facts" and imaginary outrages are the problem, not a president who was careful in his statement and wholly human when he imagined his son would have looked like Trayvon.

We've become a nation of finger-pointing self-victimizers, looking for the slightest, and even imaginary, reasons to hate each other.

I'm sick of it.

if obama had a son i think his ears would be bigger than trayvon's.

Yeah, I'm sick of it also. Unfortunately most of the left and right wing ideologues fail to see themselves as part of the larger problem.

Oh well, I've given up any hope they will find a mirror. Let alone looking into to if they by chance found find one...

How is being saddened and outraged at Treyvon's death a problem RN?

okjimm said...

OK. I have read RN's comments...and disagreed with them in other places and other blogs... but I have read his comments on The Travesty in FL. I believe his comments here may have been misconstrued. I believe he is as outraged at the incident as I am....and many of his comments lately seem to state that he feels the nutwing right has gone overboard. I think Rand is a potatoe head, too, but I also believe fair is fair.

If you ever noticed it's the left who get on the band wagon all the time. The right only gets on it to counter their "supposed" outrage when it is a "white" Hispanic on "black Crime". Spike Lee Much?
Forget about the majority of black on black crime thanks to the hell holes liberals created for them to live in.

By the way the parents of those 2 Brits who were killed by the black teenager, not in self defense mind you but for the mere pleasure of it, are very upset that the president didn't even offer as much as condolences to them. So much for one of our "closest allies"
But then again he many have to admit that the shooter would look like him if he had a son.

Read my posts in the subject. Then answer your own question.

okjimm - Thank you... Your have understood my thinking quite correctly.

Well said Shaw! In addition to being pathetic and desperate, I think the right-wing's attempts to smear Trayvon Martin are because President Obama spoke out about it. Because he expressed compassion towards Trayvon and his parents, the right-wing is now hell-bent on destroying Trayvon.

It doesn't matter what President Obama says, the right-wing nuts will twist it into something ugly. If he had given the "Tear down this wall!" speech, they'd accuse him of promoting wanton destruction!

Anonymous, I dont allow commenters to attack other commenters. Your attack on RN was uncalled for.

Sorry, RN, for not getting to it sooner. I'm out of town and only just now checked my blog.

Lisa, as usual, you don't address the topic of this post, which is that the elder Zimmerman accused the president of "hate" when, clearly, none is evident in Mr. Obama's remarks.

You've missed the point and jumped onto the victimization wagon.

Why dont YOU blog about this instead of posting cartoons or coming here to give us your inappropriate opinions that have nothing to do with the subject?

Robert Zimmerman is a liar for accusing the president of using "hate." An amazing thing to hear from a so-called jurist! His partisanship has subverted his judgment.

Shaw, no need to apologize, simply knowing your position suffices. You are a class act.

Thank you.

I agree. The senator from Kentucky should be barred from making any votes on social security until he stops calling it 'So Security'.

I wouldn't even worry about what Zimmerman senior says. He's seeing the possible indictment against his son for crimes for which he probably believes his son didn't do. There are death threats targeted against junior and possibly his family. He's probably also looking lawyers fees that will put him in the hole for the rest of his life. He is drowning...and you know what they say about a drowning man will clutch at any straw.

The Zimmerman case is starting to remind me of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway (Aruba) in 2005. In the Holloway case, the father of the accused (Joran van der Sloot) was in the process of applying for a judgeship in Aruba. In the Zimmerman case, the father is a retired magistrate from the state of Virginia. In both cases, it appears, there is family involvement in a cover-up to protect the son. And in both cases, a father with knowledge of the court system is in a position to influence the course of any police investigation.

Please recall, five years to the day after the Holloway disappearance, Joran van der Sloot was accused of a second murder for which he is now serving 28 years in a Peruvian prison.

With regards to the shooting of Trayvon Martin, none of the evidence released thus far supports Zimmerman's side of the story.

Lisa, with all respect... please be quiet.

I am sure I speak for all here, conservatives and liberals alike, when we say you are always welcome to discuss the issues of the post.

By refusing to do that, instead choosing to try and obfuscate the issue by bringing up non related stuff, you show you are interested in any real dialogue.

No one here is opposed to the type of discussion that is open and honest and relates to the post at hand.

You however, seem to be.

TRUTH, I don't think RN is disturbed by the outpouring of emotion over the TM shooting, just the rush to judgment. HOWEVER, we know who the shooter is, what has to be determined is why Zimmerman shot Martin, and why the Sanford police acted the way they did after the shooting.

Malcolm, the right's knee-jerk reaction to anything this president says is to call him a "thug" or a "Commie." IOW, their reaction is absurd.

Curious, I agree. It appears that Zimmerman Sr. is trying to protect a son who's been in trouble, more than once, with the police.

(O)CT(O), yes, none of the facts that have come out support Zimmerman's story, but for some reason, certain people on the right don't want to understand that. It is they who've made this into a "them vs. us" issue.

Dave, it is useless to try to reason with Lisa. Seriously, these are the sorts of people she hangs with at her blog and she agrees with them:

Shaw Kenawe Mar 28, 2012 07:58 PM That is vigilante justice. Zimmerman took it upon himself to judge the kid and then kill him for being black.

I can't believe nobody caught this.

Chaw you truly are a despicable POS. You are lower, and far more revolting than the giant ring around a sewage tank. Make the world a better place - go dive into a woodchipper. It'll certainly give me a little extra spring in my step.

Those are the comments that she attracts to her blog.

It's gotten worse over the last few months since she's tolerated the likes of these characters.

We really should ignore her, since it is clear what she admires and who her friends are. That's what passes as "discussion" for her.

It's probably the only sort of discourse she understands.

Comments such as you highlighted from Lisa's site are from deeply disturbed individuals Shaw. Ignoring such individuals, and sites that promote or accept such garbage is the sane thing to do. Which is why I wasn't' aware of the specific comments you highlighted.

I won't waste my time on such sites. There is nothing of any value to be found.

RN, (O)CT(O) has given me the same advice many times, but I've always been optimistic that if we showed Lisa facts to counter the misinformation she reads that may she'll come to understand that everything Glenn Beck or Michael Savage or Sarah Palin is not true.

Those comments are posted by one or two sock puppets that keep showing up under different names.

You're right RN, they are deeply disturbed individuals. However, I always thought there was a spark of humanity in Lisa. I was wrong.

Indeed Lisa, so why don't you set higher standards for your conservative blog? By not doing so you reflect poorly on authentic conservative principles.
