Stephen Colbert is always funny, incisive, witty, but in addition to that, I've always been aware of his inherent goodness that shines through, even when he is at his biting, comedic best. He wants us to know that his mother had a lot to do with that. She must have been a remarkable woman.

Stephen Colbert's Beautiful Tribute to His Mother
Stephen Colbert is always funny, incisive, witty, but in addition to that, I've always been aware of his inherent goodness that shines through, even when he is at his biting, comedic best. He wants us to know that his mother had a lot to do with that. She must have been a remarkable woman.

aw fuck, now you made me cry. I miss my Mom... and Dad. I think I need go have a beer for Dad... Mom didn't drink... she said it was to leave more for her dearest.
Magnificent tribute!
Thank you for posting this. I don't often watch Colbert's show.
Sorry. I couldn't get the video to work. From the little I've seen of Stephen Colbert in the past, however, I can't say I find myself attracted to him. The "smart ass," or "wise guy" style has never appealed to me.
But then, I'm admittedly a proud reactionary and have rejected pretty much everything "pop" since the advent of Rock 'n Roll, Mort Sahl and Lenny Bruce.
The old pop culture may have been inane (most of it it was!) but at least it wasn't septic.
However, out of respect for you, Ms Shaw, I regret not being able to play this video. Unlike most people possessed of a definite turn of mind I try to remain open to the possibility of emending my views when confronted with clear and convincing evidence that I have been wrong.
Sorry you couldn't play the video, Mr. Free Thinke, perhaps you're lacking the proper flash player. It was a very moving tribute.
That was a very loving tribute. There was something very special about that generation that kept families together. I am afraid that I shall never be able to take up the mantle that my mother always has born so easily and naturally. She is the glue that holds my family, so widely spread across the U.S.A., together as one cohesive unit. She still writes letters. She loves to laugh. She loves me more than I love myself. No one is more right and regular than my mom. And Stephen is right to credit his mother for the gift of humanity that she bestowed upon him. It's really wonderful. Dads can be wonderful too. And each one of us can try to be the same inspiration for the young ones in our own families. But the mothers and fathers from that generation, as well as their parents, set a very high standard indeed.
