Ebola Lunacy

The lunatic wing of the GOP urges Americans and the military to assassinate President Obama, because he wants everyone to die of Ebola:

And this gigantic arsebag, who's their favorite arsebag, leads all the rest:

Rush Limbaugh Says Obama Is Letting Ebola into America as Payback for Slavery

Klayman: Obama Must Be 'Taken Alive' For Bringing Ebola To America To Afflict White People

TPM:  A Republican Missouri lawmaker said that she meant "no ill intent" toward President Obama when she asked on her Facebook page if the U.S. military was able to oust the president. In a Facebook post last week, Jefferson County Recorder of Deeds Debbie Dunnegan referred to Obama as "our domestic enemy," according to a screenshot published by Progress Missouri.

"I have a question for all my friends who have served or are currently serving in our military … having not put on a uniform nor taken any type military oath, there has to be something that I am just not aware of. But I cannot and do not understand why no action is being taken against our domestic enemy. I know he is supposedly the commander in chief, but the constitution gives you the authority," she wrote in the post.

"What am I missing? Thank you for your bravery and may God keep you safe." Dunnegan, who is up for re-election in November, said that her question was taken out of context, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

GOP Congressman: Obama Wants Ebola To Spread So He Can 'Take Control' Of Everything

Fox News host Gretchen Carlson managed to wrap Ebola, the Secret Service scandal, the Veterans Affairs scandal, Obamacare, the IRS and Benghazi into one long string of questions on competence and safety on her Monday show:

"Time now for my take. So, should we trust the government to keep us all safe from Ebola? With the government's recent track record not being so hot, well, we learned we couldn't trust the IRS, after the targeting of conservative groups. The Secret Service, after an armed man made his way into the White House. The VA, after reports men and women who served this country died waiting to get health care. We couldn't trust the promise that Obamacare that we could keep our doctors that we wanted. And do we trust that we know all the answers yet about Benghazi? What more and more people seem to be asking about Ebola now isn't that they're necessarily scared about actually getting the disease, but that they're scared the government agencies responsible with helping us if we do get sick might not be up to the task. So if Ebola becomes a bigger issue the question still remains, will we be safe?"

John Nolte: "The administration would cover this up"Breitbart News's John Nolte also invoked Benghazi and the Mexican border crisis to explain his distrust of the Obama administration on Ebola.

"In a situation where an Ebola outbreak could in some way hurt President Obama's popularity numbers or agenda, do I believe the Obama Administration is morally corrupt to the point where they would put politics above the safety of the public?" he wrote in August. "I'd tell you to ask our Libyan ambassador and three other foreign services workers that question, but they're all dead."

As Charlie Pierce would say, "Here's some Stupid for lunch (and dinner).  This guy is beyond help. Where does FAUX find these idiots?

Fox News Contributor Claims Obama Wants Ebola To Spread In US Because He Hates America

"During an appearance on Fox News Radio’s The John Gibson Show Tuesday, Fox News contributor and psychiatrist Keith Ablow claimed that President Obama wants the Ebola virus to spread in the United States because “his affiliations are with” Africa. Ablow also stated that Obama considers himself the leader of Africa and not the President of the United States. The member of Fox News’ ‘Medical A-Team’ also went on a rant about the United States only electing Obama because the country was suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. In Ablow’s opinion, Americans thought if we elected a black man with a name that sounded like a mix of Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein that we would no longer be attacked by terrorists. Seriously, he actually said this."

Then the lunatic fringies of the GOP pretend their people are NOT politicizing the Ebola crisis:

"This morning, I’m hearing a leftist on FOX saying Republicans are using EBOLA as a wedge issue in the Midterms. WHEN? HOW did this get politicized?"

...when the fact that they are is right under their noses.

VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF EVIDENCE:

Family that lived with Texas Ebola victim showing no symptoms, mayor says

And to the hysterical bloggers who've been out of their minds for weeks over Ebola, here's one of your own on your favorite HATE OBAMA ALL THE TIME cable news programs telling you what colossal derps you are by doing ALL EBOLA ALL THE TIME:

 Shepherd Smith of Fox News:

"You should have no concerns about Ebola at all. None. I promise," stated Smith. He went on to tell viewers, "Do not listen to the hysterical voices on the radio and the television or read the fear-provoking words online.

The people who say and write hysterical things are being very irresponsible." He explained: "We do not have an outbreak of Ebola in the United States. Nowhere. We do have two healthcare workers who contracted the disease from a dying man.

They are isolated.

There is no information to suggest that the virus has spread to anyone in the general population in America. Not one person in the general population in the United States."

New York Times:

"The risk of Ebola infection remains vanishingly small in this country...in some years, the flu kills more than 30,000 people in the United States.  Yet this causes little anxiety."

And yet the right wing blogs continue promoting their hysteria.  Why? Perhaps because they're hoping there WILL be an epidemic in this country so that their irrational fears will prove to be correct and so that they can continue to BLAME OBAMA for EBOLA!

Hey what happened to their hysterics over beheadings?

They're at the point now where anything that comes along is going to be turned to the purpose of fomenting hysterics about Obama, and Ebola is tailor-made to trigger the contamination/purity metaphor which dominates the far-right word-view.

Will the fools and knaves who always react to these insanities by implying that "both parties are equally bad", or it's just that this is how politics has become, finally have the decency and mental clarity to recognize that it's the Republican party specifically that is crazy? I doubt it.

While the right wing bloggers and pundits continue to blame Obama for the two Ebola cases in the US, more information is coming out about how the Texas hospital failed to protect the medical staff who were treating Duncan:

"Health care workers treating Thomas Eric Duncan in a hospital isolation unit didn’t wear protective hazardous-material suits for two days until tests confirmed the Liberian man had Ebola — a delay that potentially exposed perhaps dozens of hospital workers to the virus, according to medical records.

The 3-day window of Sept. 28-30 is now being targeted by investigators for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as the key time during which health care workers may have been exposed to the deadly virus by Duncan, who died Oct. 8 from the disease.

Duncan was suspected of having Ebola when he was admitted to a hospital isolation unit Sept. 28, and he developed projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea later that day, according to medical records his family turned over to The Associated Press.

But workers at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas did not abandon their gowns and scrubs for hazmat suits until tests came back positive for Ebola about 2 p.m. on Sept. 30, according to details of the records released by AP.

The misstep – one in a series of potentially deadly mishandling of Duncan — raises the likelihood that other health care workers could have been infected. More than 70 workers were exposed to him before he died, but hospital officials have not indicated how many treated him in the initial few days.

Hospital officials have likewise not responded to repeated requests for comment about what types of protective gear was used the first few days, and why officials felt a need to change the gear being used on Sept. 30."

The fringe's fall-back position is to blame Obama first, ask questions and find out the facts last.

I guarantee you won't see the above report on the hysterical blogs or hear the fear-mongering pundits talk about it.

Shepard Sith is news person, he is a responsible voice on FOX News.

"Both parties are equally bad" applies to areas of politics and governance that has nothing to do with Ebola or any other sensationalized event. It is generally true with respect to debt, deficits, the MIC, government subsidies, regulations etc.

The hysterical lunatic fringe of the republican party/Tea Party does not represent the views of responsible conservative/libertarians.

There are plenty of non crazy republicans/conservatives. It is UNFORTUNATE the lunatic fringe gets so much air time.

Pointing out realities as Shepard Smith of FOX New does should be played to rather than constantly playing to the loonies. IMNHO it is more effective to give greater voice to the reasonable and responsible conservatives/libertarians. But that's perhaps just me.

There's a difference between concern and hysteria, between concern and carelessness. Concern is the adult response to a problem. Carelessness is the denial of the problem's existence, hysteria is an abandonment of personal responsibility for its solution, and neither is acceptable

Shaw Kenawe said...

To RN, Fox News is not considered an extreme crazy news source by millions of Americans (and it is the most watched cable news station), yet they featured a man who uttered something totally insane about President Obama -- that his "affiliations" are with Africa and not the USA? Everything Ablow said was something you'd expect from a paranoid fool and not a thoughtful guest on a cable news station.

So if Fox News isn't part of the extreme right wing fringe, then we have to claim that even the sane Republicans buy into paranoia and insanity.

And to imply that Mr. Obama is more loyal to and entire continent (Africa) than he is to his country of birth is total asininity.

There are too many people in this country who believe that sort of rot and FAUX NOOZ is only too happy to fed it to them on a daily basis.

That, IMO, is a major reason we are in the mess we're in.

From a nurse in Texas, FWIW:

Victims... the Ebola patients, their families, the treatment facilities and many of us are victims when it comes to the media.

I am tired of being a victim.
Ebola is not airborne and there is not a reason in the world to think it will become airborne.

In general, most viruses do not mutate. Two that do are HIV and the flu virus. They are able to do that because of the RNA of the virus.

Here is what it would take for Ebola to become a real airborne risk: First off, a substantial amount of Ebola virus would need to start replicating in cells that reside in the throat, the bronchial tubes and possibly in the lungs.

Second, the airborne method would have to be so much more efficient than the current extremely efficient means of transmission that it would overcome any genetic costs to the virus stemming from the mutation itself. Substantial natural hurdles make it unlikely that either event will occur.

"Currently, Ebola typically gains entry into the body through breaks in the skin, the watery fluid around the eye or the moist tissues of the nose or mouth. Then it infects various cells of the immune system, which it tricks into making more copies of itself.

The end result: a massive attack on the blood vessels, not the respiratory system." (quote via Scientific America a highly respected source for SCIENCE.)

For a virus to become airborne the respiratory system would need to be a primary incubating ground.

There is zero indication that Ebola is mutating.

In terms of why it is so virulent in Africa? A combination of factors including environmental, economic and social circumstances have fueled its spread. The United States does not possess these same factors and so the spread is less.

There has never been an example of a mutation in nature changing a virus from a bloodborne or bodily fluid route of transmission to a respiratory route.

That is FACT.

So, unless you have come in physical contact with an Ebola victim you have zero chance of getting this disease.

We might conclude that the ebola virus causes hemorrhagic fever in more than one way: those unfortunates with the viral disease and those cretins whose eagerness to blame gov't with their splenetic overload fueling their fevered noggins.

on the plus side, ebola has taken people's minds off obama's larger problems; ISIS, Palestine, Syria, the stock market correction, the new york jets.....etc.

Ebola patients have been treated at several hospitals but the medical staff has only been infected at one.
Now why is that?

There are stories about staffing shortages and the infected nurses working double shifts.
We pretty much know they tossed off Duncan because he didn't have insurance.

Lot of questions.
Is it possible that Texas needs to devote more resources to hospitals rather than spend time trying to close down Planned Parenthood clinics?

Ducky's here said...

So none of Duncan's contacts are positive (it's past the gestation limit, I believe).

Seems the best way to catch Ebola is to work for an incompetent hospital that doesn't use protective suits when treating a potentially infected patient.

We'll issue the proper equipment if he test positive. Stunning.

They don't vote democratic so they contribute to the election of the "hysterical lunatic fringe of the republican party/Tea Party."

Nor is voting democratic 100% of the time the answer. What IS the answer is for saner conservatives, republicans, and libertarians who lean republican to take back the party from the nutters.

That and we deed to field a couple more teams IMNHO to dilute the power of any single party. Perhaps compromise and consensus would make a comeback.

What I think you are really saying is a great segment of America is nuts, uneducated, gullible, suffering from adult attention disorder, not very analytical, easily influenced, and like red meat, among other things.

I know many people who watch FOX News, they are intelligent, don't agree with everything on FOX, and are as disgruntled as you and I.

Obama got himself elected twice and the Senate is in Dem hands. So, the solution is IMNHO to change the red team from within. I just wish I knew how to expedite it. If I did I would rejoin the republican party.

Her guest, Dr. Anthony Fauci, agreed, saying people need to realize how difficult a situation this is. Van Susteren ended things by saying, “I think Bill O’Reilly’s dead wrong on this one.” Probably, Greta..he is dead wrong about everything else.

Ducky,

Are the bed-wetters over on those blogs you frequent still caterwauling about how we're all going to die of Ebola?

Or have they had any moments of grown-up sense, sprinkled with a heavy dose of rationality?

Have they explained to their fellow plague-sayers why Duncan's family, who spent many days with him while he was contagious, have not all died of the same Ebola that killed him? It's been 27 days since he arrived in the US and stayed with his family.

Irrationality runs high in places where intelligence runs low.

I can't be sure, Shaw. I've been put on the bad boy list at nearly all of them.

I do read the queen bee's blog and there hasn't been much about Ebola. Recent articles have the hive upset that the liberal media has branded the far right as bigots.
There has been some mention of theater nuclear weapons deployment but that might have been in regard to ISIL.

At the one right wing blog that still allows me to post it's divided between those who think it all gets solved by a fly ban which the queen bee assures us will keep "them" out. All fixed with a travel ban.

There is a smaller group that seems to be in legitimate fear every time a case of food poisoning is reported. There is a lot of blame it on Obama sentiment there.

What strikes me is why none of them want to ask the question, 'Why did it go so badly at the Dallas hospital"?

Shaw Kenawe said...

'Why did it go so badly at the Dallas hospital"?

A very important question, because other U.S. hospitals that have taken in Ebola patients have not had staff infected.

But why would the hive discuss that when it is easier for them to speculate on the reasons for President Obama to have deliberately brought a deadly virus to America?

Their reaction -- pundits, talking heads, and bloggers-- is to sow panic and place blame, not to understand.

The far right has labeled every unfortunate natural disaster that has happened during Obama's presidency as "Obama's Katrina." They've never recovered from that colossally embarrassing episode by a Republican president.

Liars, maligners and smears, oh my! I refer to this commentary by Erick Erickson: Fat Lesbians Got All the Ebola Dollars. Notwithstanding the rank hypocrisy of androgynous fat boy flaming lesbians, this kind of commentary troubles me on several levels:

1. Distraction. An intellectually dishonest argument that adds nothing to our national conversation. Instead of finger pointing, shouldn’t we be talking about emergency preparedness?

2. Agitation. Inflammatory rhetoric that targets any group is ugly and disturbing; and its intended purpose to direct anger and resentment towards a ritual scapegoat.

3. Structural Persecution. Substitute the term “fat lesbians” for “Jews” or “black people” – the sinister undertones become clear. The logical extension of inflammatory rhetoric is to dehumanize the victimized group and deem them as unworthy of citizenship.

Persecution begins with distraction and agitation. These are the signature traits of fascism.

Here's one particular fear-mongering nitwit commenting on a worse-case prediction by a general in the Marine Corps (the prediction is that Ebola will spread unchecked through South and Central America and come raging over the US border to kill Americans.):

"I have no doubt that this is an accurate prediction —and knowing this government, the one overwhelmingly elected by Democrats on two separate occasions, it will gladly pay for any treatment accorded to illegal immigrants. Perhaps the Obama administration will even be too happy to provide bus transportation to such hapless people, guaranteeing the spread of the disease throughout our country. You see, the United States also does not have the medical infrastructure to deal with the disease in pandemic proportions. We may have plenty of money to provide illegal aliens with food stamps, but insufficient funds to address or treat diseases brought here from elsewhere."

Here's a little hatred and racism thrown in after the above fear-mongering:

"Last month, African natives murdered medical workers with machetes having accused them of intentionally infecting blacks with the Ebola virus. You cannot make this stuff up. Have you seen the squalor they are living in? The village where Thomas Duncan originated in Liberia was astonishingly similar to any of the public housing ghettos here in the USA. They are an unsanitary people and their habitat a perfect nest for infectious diseases. Yeah, those Democrats really care about the po’ black peeples does dey?"

Erik Erickson knows his audience very, very well.

Hilarious (in regards to it's stupidity) comment found in a discussion re Ebola. Commenter responds to someone speaking of the TX economy being strong...

Heyho: No it's not, it's going to sink like a tank because of the Obola bomber (Dunca). If your Gov. doesn't call out the Guard and do armed quarantines of all exposed, you gonna kill us all with the virus replicating in those people in Dallas.

Re RN's comment... is there such a thing as a Libertarian who leans Democrat? I think not. They're always with the Republicans in the stupidity of thinking We The People investing in things that benefit us all is a bad idea (what they call "fiscal Conservatism").

FYI, Randal Paul, a "Libertarian-leaning Republican", joined the fearmongers on the hysterical lunatic fringe of the Republican party, said (in regards to Ebola) "This thing is incredibly contagious. People are getting it, fully gowned, masked, and must be getting a very tiny inoculum... And then you lose more confidence because [the government is] telling you stuff that may not be exactly valid and they're downplaying it so much that it doesn't appear that they're really being honest about it".

Randal has also comparred Ebola to AIDS.

Shaw Kenawe said...

Has Randal (or any of the other fear-mongers) been able to explain why other medical staff at the other hospitals where Ebola patients are being treated have not come down with the disease? Also, it's day 27 or 28 since Duncan's family was exposed to him. He was contagious at home.

Have any of his family been admitted to any hospitals in the Dallas area complaining of fevers or other symptoms?

There's a reason Randal and others are pushing this irrational scary scenario: To bash Obama so that the coming elections will be really, really bad for the Democrats.

It's all politics and no intelligence.

Ducky's here said...

Very true. We can start with how the two major parties are extensively funded by the ruling power structure (which is what the federal government is, not a "We the People") through tax dollars. The minor parties are not.

" Moderate republicans need to take back their party not start a new one. "
