As we segue into the weekend...

...think about this:

Happy Friday!

But before you get too happy, go to Infidel753, read this and sob.

Or start drinking before the sun goes down.

Today is the celebration of the birthday of a great leader and I am sure you will all join me and the nation in honoring Ronald Reagan.

Yes. It is the anniversary of Mr. Reagan's birth.

We remember President Reagan and the fact that he presided over one of the worst scandals in American political history.

And that his wife, Mrs. Reagan, allowed an astrologer to advise President Reagan.

And the Great Communicator and visionary who said the Voting Rights Act was an insult to the people of the south.:

Opposed Voting Rights Act of 1965 as “humiliating to South”

"Reagan never supported the use of federal power to provide blacks with civil rights. He opposed the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. Reagan said in 1980 that the Voting Rights Act had been “humiliating to the South.” While he made political points with white southerners on this issue, he was sensitive to any suggestion that his stands on civil rights issues were politically or racially motivated, and he typically reacted to such criticisms as attacks on his personal integrity."

Ahhhh. The good old Reagan years! Scandals, civil rights and astrologers!

His fanbase has done a great job of making him look like a better president than he actually was.

Funny but I didn't realize this post was about President Reagan and I didn't remember today was the date of his birth either.

Nonetheless, since skudrunner mentioned it, Happy Birthday wherever you may be Mr. President.
Some just give you more credit than others.

Funny how that all works.

Thanks for the link! I have to admit that photo rather intrigues me. I've heard the expression "pants on fire", but this enactment is almost Joni-Ernst-like in the discomfiture it arouses. Perhaps these men are fans of hers. Very drunken ones.

I don't suppose there's any hope that Republicans might display their respect for Reagan by agreeing to raise tax rates on the highest income brackets back up to where they were during his Presidency? Didn't think so.
