The Birmingham News: "We believe these women."

UPDATE:

For a indepth analysis on why Roy Moore is still a hero to the Evangelical Christians, go read this excellent piece by Infidel753.

*******************************

A cursory trip around Gooperville blogs will show you how the Goopers are reacting to the Moore allegations. (Hint: They don't believe the women, and they sympathize with the sexual predator. Surprise!)

Here's one incredible response from a rabid far right Trumper sent to me via email (h/t R.D.):

I have news for everyone: At 14, any girl would LOVE to have any attention from a 32 year old guy. Was it sex or was it a guy flirting to see the reaction of a cute 14 yr old? I don’t know the facts, there could be pictures of Moore’s having sex with teenagers for all I know, and if THAT IS THE CASE, he needs more penalty than just stopping his run for the senate!~ But, until we know for sure he’s guilty, why say he can’t run? The girls who are also attacking Moore say their 14 yr old friend ‘told them he assaulted her’….Ya, I’ll be no other 14 yr olds have ever bragged that a 32 yr old came on to her. Also, there are people asking “WHY WOULD THESE GIRLS SAY THIS IF IT WEREN’T TRUE?” Um…how about DEMOCRAT MONEY!?

The above is classic "blame the victim and side with the sexual predator." (But never forget had it been a "libtard" accused, this person would be spittle-flecking screaming for justice. Hypocrisy at its finest.) This is an excellent example of the sort of person who supports and swoons over a pig like Trump.

However, not everyone believes the women accusing Moore are lying. Thankfully, there are calmer, rational heads who see Moore for what he is: A moral blight on his state and religion.

The Birmingham News:

"The seriousness of these incidents cannot be overstated. They should not be parsed with talk of statutes of limitations or whether proof exists. Proof beyond a reasonable doubt is a consideration for the courtroom, not the ballot box.

When choosing our representative before the rest of the world, character matters. Nor should these women's statements be diminished because the incidents are decades old. If readers objectively look at the reality of life for sex assault victims - at the public doubt and vitriol they face - they'll understand why girls and women do not come forward readily, or early. And sadly, the reactions of many over the past several days support modern understanding of women's reluctance to voice these things.

They stayed quiet while Moore ascended in local and state politics, but they have spoken out as he seems on the verge of attaining national office. For that, Alabama and America owe them respect and appreciation.

We believe these women. As a news organization, we have independently investigated as many of these claims as possible and have found no reason to doubt the accounts outlined in the Washington Post. If anything, the stories we've heard in Etowah County have only further corroborated them.

In our view, Moore has already revealed himself as grossly unfit to be a U.S. Senator before these revelations. He has been twice-removed from statewide office for his defiance of the law. His views on women's rights, same-sex marriage and religious freedom no longer reflect the majority of Alabamians. And they are incompatible with the governance of this country. He has said that the murderous 9/11 attacks on America and the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut may have been God's will because America had sinned."

As per Progressive Eruptions superfan Rusty Shackelford, that Gloria Allred is involved is additional proof that these allegations are fabricated. btw, the latest accuser was a Trump voter (she says). So she didn't believe the 16 women who accused Trump, but we're supposed to believe her? For the record, I believe her, but many of her fellow Trump voters do not.

Roy Moore seemed to suggest last Friday to Sean Hannity that more accusers would come forward, you know, because Satan is obviously inveighing upon Alabama women to make up lies to stop God’s Christian Soldier Roy Moore from taking his rightful place in the United States Senate. The allegations from Beverly Young Nelson, which she read on the record in a press conference yesterday, are far more graphic than what Leigh Corfman says Moore did to her when she was 14 and he was 32, as if Corfman’s allegations weren’t bad enough. In Nelson’s case, what Moore allegedly did to her sounds like the textbook definition of attempted rape of a minor.

Funny the Trumpers believe Junita Brodderick's claim thaat Clinton raped her in 1978 -- almost 40 years ago, but don't believe Moore's accusers of 40 years ago. How does that work?

Dervish, you shouldn't try to find anything rational from the crowd Rusty hangs with. They've hitched their wagons to a sexual predator and Russia-loving, 30% preznit. They're grasping at straws,at anything that changes the subject from his failing presidency. Poor dears.

Clearwater, I don't think Moore is going to escape the bad outcome that's been predicted for him. Normal people don't like voting for pedophiles.

Why shouldn't the voters of Alabama be left to decide?

Thanks for the link!

As for that "rabid far right Trumper" response, I've been looking at comment threads at Breitbart and other right-wing sites and I've seen a few like that, though most of the people there are still flat-out denying there's any truth to the allegations. Apparently Roy Moore back then was such a hot catch that an enterprising 14-year-old would have done anything to reel him in. They'll be accusing the girls of molesting him before this is over.

I believe these women are telling the truth. I also believe Broadrick, Wellstone, Jones, Millwee, Willey and James were telling the truth. The biggest difference is the media is all over moore as they should be and let the serial rapist walk free.

Dervish Sanders said...

From what I'm hearing, the voters of Alabama WILL decide, and their decision could very well be that a child molester is better than a Democrat. Moore is like (Jesus' stepdad) Joseph. He married a very young girl, so it's all OK. Anyway, it (the conspiracy to slander a good Christian man) is what you'd call "heavily manipulated, agenda-driven coverage" or (as per FreeThinke) the "DEERVISHIAN Point of View". What an honor! Like the time he wrote a poem in which the first letter of the first word in every line was bolded... and spelled out "F*ck you Dervish".

skud, let me help. Clinton is no longer president.
Myself, I think Moore fits right in with the Happy Hands administration but some in the Senate seem to think he might prove to be a loose cannon. So don't try to push this on the media.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skudrunner, I hate to tell you this, but media are not the law, they just report. The media did report the Clinton accusations, and if you remember, Clinton was impeached for lying. Brodderick recanted and then claimed what she reported was true. We'll never know why she did that or for what reason. I do believe Bill Clinton was a sexual predator and should have paid a harsher price for what the women claimed he did.

Now the question to you from me is this: Do you believe the dozen or so women who accuse Trump of sexual misconduct? If so, where is your outrage over that. You seem to be stuck on outrage over Clinton, and now Moore. What about the guy in the White House?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Dervish if the past is any indication of what will happen in the future, Alabama will likely send a pedophile to the U.S. Senate. I read somewhere that one Alabaman said even if Moore had shot President Obama, he would still vote for Moore.

You cannot reason with mentally deformed people. And if Alabama sends Moore to the U.S. Senate, then we have to understand how many mentally deformed people live in that state.

Republican National Committee Pulls Funding For Roy Moore’s Senate Campaign

Many GOP senators have called on him to drop out of the Alabama special election amid allegations of sexual assault.

I wonder if the person quoted in my post still thinks the Democrats paid those women to report on Roy Moore's sexual predations?

The Bannonite/Trumpanzee crowd these days looks upon establishment Republicans as practically the Devil incarnate. Any action by the RNC and its ilk against Moore, to them, will just be further proof of the diabolical conspiracy against Moore and the embattled Godly forces of MAGA.

It was bad enough when they thought Obama was as socialist as Bernie Sanders. Now they've decided that McConnell and McCain are the same as Obama and Sanders -- and that all of them are the same as Joseph Stalin. I'm not joking. I read comment threads on Breitbart and RedState and that's really where a lot of them are. It's sheer frothing lunacy.

Ms Shaw, You always seem to imply that I am a Trump supporter which is not true. Although Trump probably used his money and power to his advantage and probably sexually harassed women, other than accusations proof has not been presented. Trump and Moore need to step down because neither can accomplish anything and Trump is toxic.
Now would I rather see Trump in office than -H-, absolutely.

I was brought up in a different time when women would tell me a dirty joke and slap my ass, guess I should file for sexual harassment. Guess we live in a society that has lost the ability to defend themselves by saying no.

Shaw Kenawe said...

skud, what you described as as hearing a "dirty joke" and having your "ass slap[ped]," is, to say the very least, quite different from having a 30-year old adult male force a teenage girl to put her face in crotch, and then have that adult male put his hands around her neck.

Do you understand the difference?

Sexual predation is no lauging matter. Believe me. I was a 6-year old child when it happened to me, and the man got away with it. What does a six year old know about anything like that? And in the era when it happened to me, there was no awareness of this or anywhere a little child could turn to for help, especially when the adult male threatens the child.

This is not a matter to be taken lightly. It affects the victim for the rest of her life.

Infidel753, Bannon is now and forever associated with supporting Moore. Let the MAGAs live with that fact.

An Alabama Robocall Invokes Ugly Tropes
A recording falsely claiming to be from a Washington Post reporter named Lenny Bernstein seeks to fan resentment of the press among Roy Moore supporters.

I wonder if any of the GOP news sites or blogs will report on this slimey anti-Semitic attempt by Moore supporters to discredit the Washington Post and fool the gullible people in Alabama who continue to stand by the pedophile running for the US Senate.

From my friend Dan Mc on fb:

Just so you understand how big a clusterfuck the Roy Moore issue has become for the GOP: their *good* way forward is for Moore to drop out and Jeff Sessions to step down as AG and run as write-in candidate. Sessions is, "to the best of his recollection," up to his ears in the Russia thing so it's not guaranteed he would even be able to finish his term - and then there's the matter of nominating, vetting and appointing a new AG with the Russia probe continuing in the background. Ho-leee shit, what a mess.

Quaint ideals like principles and morals are smothered by right wing ideology in pursuit of power and control, and that is what politics is all about and why the GOP tolerates pigs like Moore and Trump. The wingnuts never stop reminding the world that Bill Klintoon is a moral pig but they ignore the swine in their own party, they even made on of them POTUS! -- because power is everything to them. If the Devil could pass their agenda, they'd make him the standard bearer of their party.

And they did.
