"Maryland has no statute of limitations on sexual assault but that is not the end game Dr. Ford is after. She wants an FBI investigation because that would put Kavanaugh in the position of talking to the FBI about it. If he lies to the FBI, that puts him in legal jeopardy. He has retained a very powerful defense attorney as of last night.
Now he can say he wasn't there publicly or that this is a fantasy of her's but he can't say that to an FBI agent. He can say he was drunk and doesn't remember anything but that is not going to change the fact that she told her therapist 5 years ago about this incident and how it traumatized her. Republicans are now between a rock and a hard place because Kavanaugh can't talk to the FBI and if he does not talk to them or if the White House does not order the FBI to look into this, he looks more guilty.
Dr. Ford is more than willing to tell the FBI everything, under oath. That lends a lot of credibility if she is willing to go under oath while insisting on an FBI investigation. Those notes to her therapist are devastating to be sure. Republicans thought they'd just haul her up to congress and Anita-Hill her but oh no old men, she's not playing that. You get the FBI to investigate this or you get nothing.
Kavanaugh didn't hire the best lawyer he could for no reason. There's entirely too much secrecy behind this rapey prick. There is no way the White House is going to tell the FBI to do an investigation if they know Kavanaugh is going to take the 5th. He is going to withdraw or Trump has to throw him under the bus. He may very well lose his job on the court of appeals. If they don't cut him loose, there will be a tsunami on November 6th."

Earlier today the GOP said Dr. Ford's request that an FBI investigation take place before her appearance in front of the committee was just a stall tactic.
Later in the morning, the Chairman Sen. Grassley sent a letter to Dr. Ford saying, there would be no FBI investigation before her appearance and the Senate has no power to order the FBI to do an investigation. Grassley said, the hearings will go forward without delay. Grassley did offer to have a private staff meeting with Dr, Ford without cameras present, before Monday.
This reminds us of another high profile person who was accused of not only sexual molestation but rape by several women. Of course he was innocent and it was just a right wing conspiracy.
If she is telling the truth she has no reason to not be interviewed in private, which was offered. She has gone from he was going to rape me or kill me to I don't remember where or when to I will testify to I may testify but first have the FBI do an investigation. Why not do a polygraph on both of them over the weekend. Did she say anything about having a blue dress because that would be the clincher.
You do pose a good question on how Kavanaugh paid for his lifestyle. Maybe he made a bundle trading commodities. The statement about his hiring the best lawyer is absurd. What should he have done hair a hack.

Unfortunately we may never know the facts. Why? Because rather than believing Ford and actually listening to her objectively and talking with anyone who has knowledge of the alleged event, including her therapist, the right is more interested in defending Kavanaugh and defaming Ford. Sad and unfortunate for America.
But I do understand the GOP's and conservatives trying to dismiss this as frivolous. After all, look who they nominated for president. A serial pussy grabbing sexual predator.

Since the Republicans refuse to let the FBI investigate Dr. Ford's charges against Kavanaugh, maybe Democrats should push for Kavanaugh to take a lie detector test as Dr. Ford has. Of course Republicans will refuse that, but let them make that refusal public.
Dave, she took a polygraph in her attorneys office and according to her attorney, she passed. They will not release the questions asked or the graphs.
Back to the issue. He is guilty because she is telling the truth. There were a bunch of LaCrosse players who were guilty until it turned out they were not. Their lives were turned upside down because some women said they did it. According to some women men are just evil and looking for someone to rape.
Kavanaugh has been high profile for decades and she did not say a word. Now after several months of his nomination she said nothing and all of a sudden she has a flashback and writes Feinstein. Feinstein holds on to the letter for almost six weeks and the week before the vote releases it. Now the dems need more time for her to testify and it is the repugs who are not being fair.
I don't know if he is guilty of groping, not raping, a girl in high school 36 years ago and I doubt we will never know the truth but everyone deserves to face their accuser and they should. Don't you question the motives of the democrats when their leader, before a name was released, said they will oppose whoever is nominated. After all the interviews and coming up with nothing on Kavanaugh this women comes forward.

Did you question the motives of the GOP who refused to bring Merrick Garland's name up for consideration when there was 200 days before an election? But now with less than a month the GOP is trying to ram through Kavanaugh? Of course not because that is partisan politics that your side engages in, so it's okay.
Did you question Mitch McConnells motives when he said the thing he is most proud of is the fact that he did not allow a vote on Merrick Garland? Did you?

From what I heard Garland was a good candidate and the hearings should have been allowed. They really need to make the supreme court another political branch because that is what it has become.
Trump should have nominated a one arm muslim black women and that would have shut out the noise from the left.

Why have the Republicans been so quiet about Donald Trump, whose 19 accusers have said he sexually assaulted or harassed them? Since the Goopers have not held Trump to a high standard where sexual harassment and assault are concerned, why should they have anything to say about anyone else's accusations?

This is not about Trump although with the dems he is what everything is about but what else do they have.
The democrats will take the majority in the November elections based on having no policy except hate Trump. Talk about playing to their base. They are saying little about their position on immigration, open border, Law enforcement, eliminate ICE, create jobs, guaranteed income, fixing healthcare, put everyone on medicare especially those who don't contribute. Great platform.
