Syria Update: Turkey Is Blowing the Hell Out of It and the Russians Are Cheering
TURKEY ATTACKS: Turkey has launched a military offensive in northern Syria after getting a green light from Pres. Trump to drive Syrian Kurds out of the region. The Kurds had been U.S. allies in the fight against ISIS and had been promised U.S. protection.
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) has called Trump's reversal of this promise 'a victory for Assad, Russia, Iran, and ISIS.'
From Business Insider:
Analysis:
US President Donald Trump's announcement late Sunday night that the US would withdraw troops from northeastern Syria was a stunning betrayal of the US's Kurdish partner forces in the fight against ISIS, military leaders and experts say.
Kurdish forces have sustained nearly 11,000 casualties in the fight against ISIS; now, they prepare for a new battlefront against a Turkish invasion into Syrian territory they control, while the US watches.
"The value of an American handshake is depreciating," Brett McGurk, who resigned from his post as Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL last December over Trump's announcement that he would pull all US troops from Syria, tweeted.
"Trump today said we could 'crush ISIS again' if it regenerated," McGurk wrote. "With who? What allies would sign up? Who would fight on his assurances?"

Abandoning the Kurds is another massive distraction, this time one that may soon shed innocent blood. This is a disastrous foreign policy decision, but it alleviated to an extent the furor surrounding the investigation proceeding toward the impeachment of the Trump crime family, a family that now includes the Secretary of State as well as the Justice Department. The Republican senate can be counted on to "play ball" with Trump, and the more they abet or do nothing, the more he will own their souls. The new Republican Supreme Court will likely bend over backward to accommodate the White House, and if war comes the US Constitution will be put back in the closet due to a national emergency until the Commander-in-Chief sees fit to permit another election. America has been had. And we did it to ourselves - even if not by ourselves - in the election booth in 2016.
Can we please hurry up and impeach the son of a bitch?
"The State Department has directed Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, not to appear before House committees seeking information about his activities, according to a statement by his attorney.
Sondland was scheduled to be deposed about his activities as President Trump urged Ukraine to investigate his political opponents."
Sondland's information must be damning to Trump and his criminal administration. If Trump did nothing wrong, why is he refusing to let the ambassador give exculpatory evidence?
Because Trump is a crook!
If Sondland had integrity and any balls he would walk into the Oval Office, hand his resignation (effective immediately) to Dotard, and notify Dotard he would be providing every bit of information he was aware of to the Congress. Then he would spin on his heels and walk out the door a FREE man.
Yep... the Turks have started their incursion into Syria. To essentially battle against US Allies who fought for us in Syria, so we would not have to. And look how we said thanks.
Gone are the days of President GHW Bush being able to assemble a broad international coalition, or his son putting together a team to attack Afghanistan or even Iraq for that matter.
Our word means nothing on the international stage anymore because we've proclaimed loud and clear that we really don't give a damn about you unless you've got something tangible for us.
Yessir... Make America Great Again! At the expense of the partnerships we've maintained, along with mostly peace in the world, for decades.
Thank you President Trump... a very stable genius who is smarter than his generals and who has great and unmatched wisdom.
Breathtaking...
Dave What is as horrible as seeing our allies, the Kurds, being slaughtered by the Turks is seeing the Trump Cultists saying nothing about this catastrophe! (Lindsey Graham has been speaking out, but to no avail.)
RN, Not going to happen. Trump chose Sondland, a billionaire who contributed $$$ to his campaign. Money talks; integrity walks.
Ray, Sondland's testimony would damage Trump even more than the whistle-blower's. We won't hear it. You have to keep in mind that Trump is running a criminal regime.
Jerry It's a mantra I say morning, noon, and night.
R.D. The "distraction" is turning out to be a catastrophe for the Kurds. Let's hope it ends Trump's presidency.
RN, Not going to happen. Trump chose Sondland, a billionaire who contributed $$$ to his campaign. Money talks; integrity walks.
There is NO integrity in either party because... MONEY TALKS and integrity walks.
Sad indeed...
RN is right, can't believe that is twice I agreed with him. Look at the millions raised and spent to get elected to any office especially the president. Get elected and you pay it back with favors.
It would be nice to have both parties have decent candidates. Trump is not a good choice, Biden is out, Sanders is out and Warren can't keep her stories straight, she almost makes trump look honest.
ISIS fighters will be running free and Syrian Christians as well as others will lose their lives as the Turks attack the undermanned Kurds.
What a monumental foreign policy mistake. By President Trump. And no one else.
MAGA...
skud, what stories about Elizabeth Warren are you talking about?
You need to provide evidence for your claims.
Maybe he was talking about the American Indian thing?
I am a Native American until I am not but it did get me government grants for college and helped get me a job at Havad.
I was fired for getting pregnant or maybe I wasn't.
I am against financial institutions unless they give me money.
My statistics prove medicare for all is great until they are proven it will be healthcare for none.
We are on the eve of invading Venezuela or maybe not.
I know she is a progressive so therefore she only tells the truth, or maybe not.
skud wrote: "...it did get me government grants for college and helped get me a job at Havad."
Like many members of her generation, Elizabeth Warren earned a college degree without taking on crippling student debt.
“Growing up, I knew I wanted to be a public school teacher. But for that you needed a college degree — and to get a college degree you needed money my family didn’t have. Still, I figured it out. I got a scholarship and headed off to George Washington University,” she writes.
When she was 19, Warren dropped out of college to get married and took a job answering phones. But she still dreamed of being a teacher.
“I heard about the University of Houston. It was a public four-year college just 40 minutes away and tuition was just $50 a semester — something I could afford on a part-time waitressing salary,” she writes. “I got my degree and went on to become a teacher for students with speech and learning disabilities.
AND THIS:
Harvard Law School professor Charles Fried, who served as U.S. Solicitor General under President Ronald Reagan and was part of the committee that put Warren in a tenure position, said in a written statement that her ethnicity never came up during the process.
Fried, who donated $250 to Warren's campaign, told the Republican, a Springfield, Mass., newspaper, in 2012, "This stuff I hear that she was an affirmative action hire, got some kind of a boost, it is so ludicrous and so desperately stupid and ignorant, it just boggles the mind."
Asked about Warren’s minority status, Robert H. Mundheim, the dean who hired Warren at the University of Pennsylvania, told the Boston Globe that summer, "‘I don't think I ever knew that she had those attributes and that would not have made much of a difference."
A number of news organizations interviewed dozens of faculty and students from the three law schools where Warren taught, and no evidence emerged that any claim about her ethnic roots played a role in the hiring process.
Warren stands by her claim that she was fired for being pregnant.
You have no idea what it was like to be a woman trying to have a career and balance family life. NONE. What Warren experienced when she was pregnant and employed was experienced by millions of women, and those women have come forth to validate what she experienced.
Until you provide evidence for your claims, we must assume that what you wrote is nothing but a lie and an attempt to smear Senator Warren. Just because the Republican president is a documented liar, that doesn't give YOU the right to come here and spread rumors and lies.
It's telling that you NEVER report the documented lies spread by your Republican president.
Question: Are you being paid by Russian bots to smear Elizabeth Warren? Or are you, like the Liar-in-Chief worried that she's gaining in the polls.
Whatever the motives for you to come here and spread lies and smears, it is shameful and consistent with how rotten to the core the base of the Republican Party is.
1997: In the Fordham Law Review, Chmura touts Warren as Harvard Law’s “first woman of color.” I guess white is a color
1999: Harvard begins publishing its affirmative action plan on its website and lists a single Native American professor. Wonder who that was?
Several decades only female teachers and nurses income was considered for a mortgage because they could return to work after giving birth. Of course she stands by her story because it supports he lie.
I will admit I don't like warren because her ideas would hurt the middle class even more that the special interest president. Medicare for all, attack financial institutions, open borders all would result in massive tax increases and guess what, it would come from the middle class.
Trump is disgusting in his manner but he is doing what he said he would do which is something few presidents are willing to do. The only thing your swell guy promised and did was redistribute the wealth from the middle class to the rich.
RN,
Sondland is a million dollar Donald donor. That how he got his job. He has no integrity.
SKUDRUNNER: "1997: In the Fordham Law Review, Chmura touts Warren as Harvard Law’s “first woman of color.” I guess white is a color

SK: ou didn't provide any proof that any of what you posted HELPED HER TO GET INTO HARVARD or HELPED HER FINANCE HER COLLEGE TUITION. So what you posted is not evidence of anything.
Trump is doing what he said he'd do? Only a cultist would write such an absurd statement.
Where's the wall that Mexico will pay for? That was a promise.
Where's the health care plan that would be better and cheaper than the ACA? That was a promise.
Trump promised NOT to make any cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. His fiscal 2020 proposal calls for reductions in funding for Medicare and Medicaid relative to current law. Over a decade, the plan would shave an estimated $800 billion or more off Medicare, which covers older Americans, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation and various reports. It would also cut spending on Medicaid, the federal-state program that insures low-income Americans, by more than $200 billion while setting up block grants to states. SOURCE
Trump promised to cut all funding to Sanctuary Cities. He hasn't done that.
Trump promised to get rid of DACA. DACA remains.
Trump promised to "drain the swamp." The Swamp remains and is swampier than ever: See Manafort indicted and in jail, see Trump's own extorting of the Ukrainian president. See Ivanka's clothing lines in China, they're are exempt from the Trump tariffs. See Trump tried to get his ex-Secy. of State, Tillerson, to drop DOJ case against Giuliani's client. There's more. These are just a few examples of Trump's Swamp.
Trump promised to establish a commission on radical Islam. No commission established.
Trump promised to end birthright citizanship: Didn't do it.
Trump promised to make America great again. We are ridiculed and laughed at around the world.
Trump promised to get rid of the deficit in 8 years. Now, three years into his presidency, the deficit is 68 percent higher than when he started.
"There are none so blind as those who refuse to see."
Just reported. This is Trump's personal lawyer who tried to get Ukraine president to dig up dirt on Biden:
"Two associates of Rudy Giuliani connected to efforts to dig up dirt in Ukraine on Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden were arrested Wednesday on criminal charges for violating campaign finance rules, according to a spokesman for the Southern District of New York.
Igor Fruman and Lev Parnas were detained at Dulles airport outside of Washington and are expected to appear in court in Virginia on Thursday."
Meanwhile, skud, you've said exactly ZERO about the Trump-Ukraine scandal and his betrayal of the Kurds.
All you do is trash Mr. Obama, Hillary, Senator Warren and other Dems and ignore the fire raging in your own political house.
Jerry Sondland is part of the corruption.
Ms Shaw I do not have a party or political house and I am looking for a good candidate who I can support. Everyone has their reasons for their choice and I don't support socialism which is where all but Biden stand. I also think that if the democrats don't get smart and find someone else than their top polling candidate who has a hard time remembering her last lie, trump may win.
As one publication stated, she is a serial liar. She even said her parents had to elope because of racism against her mother who was white. She resigned from her part time teaching career and her single mom story is a hoax because she was still married when she met her second husband.
Shaw, Nice review of Donald’s unfulfilled promises!
