Not a real good point. Our government has done many things that were wrong, if not illegal. We have spent centuries and a civil war trying to erase our sin of slavery. To defend slavery because it was not a crime, is shameful.
I don't think Fell was defending slavery, per se. I think he was trying to show Adams that Washington couldn't be impeached post-presidency because while Washington was president, slavery was, sadly, legal. Legal, of course, doesn't mean "moral." Slavery was always immoral, but our Founding Fathers, like the folks in the Jim Crow era, used the Bible to justify slavery.
What Trump incited was insurrection against his own government, and that is ALWAYS a crime against the United States.
