January 20, 2021, pre-Noontime:

 RICK WILSON, LINCOLN PROJECT:

The most destructive, vile, corrupt man ever to darken America’s presidency has left the White House for the last time.

He has disgraced himself, the office, his oath, and the nation in ways more profound and lasting than we can account.

His incompetence, malfeasance, and evil shouldn’t be laughed off as narcissism or ignorance. He was surrounded by corrupt, wicked, cruel counselors and reveled in it.

Emerson once said of Lincoln’s presidency “an institution is the lengthened shadow of a man.” He was right. Trump’s cruelty, division, insurrection, treason and corruption are unrivaled in history. He is the nadir of presidential leadership. He was enabled by the weak, the venal, the desperate, and the compromised.

It was empowered by voices normalizing and rationalizing his evils. His abuse of power should come as no surprise. There are no better angels in Donald Trump’s nature. There was never a bottom. There was never any maturation, self-reflection, or a “day he became president.”

It would always end this way.

A life free of consequence, accountability, justice, or moral reckonings put a man in charge of this nation with no guiderails, no boundaries, no ethical compass.

The American carnage from his inaugural address was real, and he embodied every iota of it.

The claque of his sycophants will haunt us for a generation. They will try to clean up his philosophy and embody his authoritarianism while wearing better suits and waving credentials.

His cult will await the second coming and his spawn will run for office.

For all that, he is defeated.

A pariah, a failure, and a traitor the the Constitution and the country.

Good won over evil.

It’s that simple.

Decency won over indecency.

America checked a hard slide into the darkness, blessed by providence or luck.

Enjoy this moment. There’s much work ahead.

Lawrence Tribe: @JoeBiden had the decency to wait for the outgoing president to take off in Marine One before leaving Blair House for the pre-inaugural church service. He didn’t want the cameras to have to cut from Trump to him. What a contrast in character!

Thomas Friedman: President Donald J. Trump: The End

This terrible experiment is over.Folks, we just survived something really crazy awful: four years of a president without shame, backed by a party without spine, amplified by a network without integrity, each pumping out conspiracy theories without truth, brought directly to our brains by social networks without ethics — all heated up by a pandemic without mercy.

I guess having a citizen president just didn't work out but like Washington said America is a great experiment and we were just experimenting. Politics should be left to the career politicians and not the citizens.

Joey will do fine and so will the country. We have had worse presidents in our lifetime. Joey has the media totally on his side as well as congress. Now we won't have to hear about the latest tweet and daily press conferences because that is not who he is. He is more like his mentor and will stay away from the press and rely on chuckie to change america.

Long live joey

Thank you for posting this Shaw. The unquestionable truth Wison speaks should go viral. And hopefully many of tRump's supporters will grow to realize and accept the truth in those words. Because it is my belief if and until they do this nightmare tRump created for America will persist.

If you don't mind I'm "stealing" this and posting at my site.

skud, in case you haven't noticed, Joe Biden is an American citizen, so that alone makes him a citizen president, whether you accept that or not. We experimented with a guy who knew NOTHING about our American democracy and government, and we got hit hard by his lies, his cheating, and corruption. What we want is a man of honor and decency, and Joe Biden fills that.

No one will EVER use the words "decency" and "honor" to describe Trump.

That doesn't seem to matter to you and your friends over at Geeez and AOW. But it certainly was important to 81 million Americans.

Trump trashed America. And we won't forget it. EVER!

RN I took those words from Rick Wilson's Twitter account, and it's there for public use.

Happy No More Trump in the Presidency Day!

Hey skidmark, you're cynical outlook on our democracy and democratic republic of 240+ years is sickening. And what is more so is yout OBVIOUS support for a degenerate ignorant traitor. So skidmark, your BS means nothing to rationl sane people. But by all means, keep the false faith if it makes yoj happy.

RN... and others. Wilson has an article on Daily Beast where he really lets the fur fly. It's worth a read.

Skud... you're right, Biden will do fine. But even if he doesn't, one think is certain, we've got a good man in the White House. A president, any president, can do a lot... if they are at their core, good, kind and publicly caring. All areas where Trump struggled. I truly believe some public sorrow over the amount of death during Covid, campaigns devoid of personal attacks on Biden and others and less, yes, racist, ways of talking about his policies and he would have easily won a second term.

At the end of the day, we are a little like the Brits... we expect decency, especially from our "ruling" and "moneyed" class. But Trump chose a different path and unlike LBJ, Ford and GHW Bush, was unable to accept that America said enough.

We are better today than yesterday, hopefully better than tomorrow.

As I have every president in my lifetime, I wish Biden well, he will have my hopes and prayers for a better America and my anger when he falls short.

But as the song says... "It's a new day, and I'm feeling good..."

Interesting isn't in? Tune into the events of today and you see participants in masks. All of them. That simple act, an example for all of America, is a good thing.

Ppl may still get sick, but I doubt the inauguration will be another White House super spreader event.

President Biden's inaugural speech was full of hope, decency, and a promise to be president to all Americans, not just to the ones who voted for him. President Biden held out his hand for people like you to join him in healing the nation and doing the work to help us all get through this pandemic. His speech was exactly the opposite of Trump's inaugural speech, "American Carnage." President Biden's was about American Courage. Do we have the courage to trust each other again?

President Biden exemplifies the promise of America and all that it should be. A more tolerant, non judgemental, understanding and caring land. President Biden was not my first choice. But as Dave has said often President Biden is a decent and honest man. Therefore I trust him, even knowing he will make mistakes and he will stumble from time to time. As I said, this fiscal consevative will have his back. Not because I support all of his agenda, but rather because I know he loves his country, all its people, and that American interests are truly his interests. Unlike djt.

Pres. Trump was hoping for a large military-style send-off at Joint Base Andrews
Wednesday, but it included some notable absences: VP Pence, top Republican congressional leaders and several of his closest political allies chose not to attend.

It's interesting... you read some of the conservative sites and they are complaining about the $$$ spent by the Trump Admin actually, to secure the capital. No one was violent they say, unable to understand that the show of force by the federal government is exactly what we needed to make sure the dead enders and insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol in an action that killed 5 people, including a federal agent just a few days, could not return.

Since when is overwhelming force inappropriate when you have the possibility of another violent attack on our Capitol?

My thanks to the Trump Admin for approving the expense it took to make sure our government was not attacked again, by people calling for the death of anyone in the Executive Branch and Congress.

We should never forget what happened on January 6 and should be wary forevermore of this new version of seditionists that continue to threaten the unity of the United States.

Dave, That was the correct thing to do by the Trump administration. Although reading some of the things QAnon was predicting would happen was frightening.

QAnon supporters believed Wednesday’s inauguration was an elaborate trap set by the former president, wherein Democrats would be rounded up and executed while Trump retained power. Various other doomsdays theorized by the QAnon community have also come and gone without incident.

But unlike those past days, Biden's inauguration leaves the community with little daylight. As their predictions failed, radicalized QAnon members expressed their betrayal on messaging apps like Telegram and forums named after their failed doomsday scenario, The Great Awakening.

While Biden took the oath, one top post on a QAnon forum read: “I don’t think this is supposed to happen” and wondered, “How long does it take the fed to run up the stairs and arrest him?"

Other users became immediately dejected, realizing their dreams of a bloody coup were not going to take place.

“Anyone else feeling beyond let down?” one top post on a popular QAnon forum read. "It's like being a kid and seeing the big gift under the tree thinking it is exactly what you want only to open it and realize it was a lump of coal."

Shaw Kenawe said...

Frightening because of the insanity that's running rampant in these conspiracy groups!

Les Carpenter said...

Minds as polluted as Q'ANON supporters minds are frankly are beyond salvaging. They are past just nuts. Their minds have been fried and are like a meth addict on their last legs.

That's why the impeachment must go forward. We have to make sure he never runs for anything again.

And living in Missouri, I wish I could do something about Hawley. But Missouri has become a backwater red state. We used to be middle of the road. I don't know what happened.
