Dave Miller posted a comment that...

perfectly describes what the Iran War and the negotiations to end it look like:

Dave Miller:

Iran can now start selling oil and looks to get about 8 billion.

Now, the US did release 1.7 billion under Obama to settle a legal dispute from 1979. That was flown to Iraq in cargo planes and is the frequently cited money that people like skud and Geezers always complain about.

Iran now looks to receive a windfall because they can sell oil on the open market since the Trump Administration has agreed to end economic sanctions on them.

The annual projected amount of oil money is about $60 billion.

Then there are frozen assets, which estimates put in the $24-$100 billion range.

Then there are the reconstruction funds. That amount is $300 billion. While not directly providing the money, effectively, the US is guaranteeing that amount to Iran, pledging to get our partners in the region to pony up.

Also, there is only a 60 day moratorium on Iran charging fees for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. After that, all bets are off.

So let's recap: Six months ago Iran was under sanctions by the US and the UN. It could not sell oil. It did not control the Strait. It did not have access to its frozen assets. It was not part of the world community. It did not have either, at least according to the Trump Admin, a nuclear capability or a nuclear weapon.

Now within 30 days, it will have billions. It can start rebuilding the military facilities the US bombed, because we've stated numerous times, "We are not bombing civilian sites". Because it has demonstrated it can close the Strait, it now has total control and any challenge to that can be met with ballistic missile attacks on the oil facilities of our allies.

In a matter of weeks, the billion dollar spigot into Iran will be turned on and for the first time in decades, they will be flush with cash. All courtesy of the Trump Admin. Somehow, the US after "winning" a war, got the short end of the stick in this "negotiation".

 The Art of the Deal.

The Captain of the Mother Ship isn't happy about the MOU Trump signed:

"MANY strong conservatives are disappointed with the points Trump released before leaving the G7. I thought it was the wrong time to talk and I wished Marco Rubio had done the talking instead, if they all felt they must. Marco sure didn’t look comfortable up there, that’s for sure.

From the Conservatives I saw on news discussions, Iran will win unless we finish them off, once and for all. And this isn’t it. Trump seems to want to delight us that OUR money won’t be going to Iran; but money’s money…Qatar’s money going to Iran is just as bad.

I just WISH Trump COULD make the case that it’s better to pay a bit more for gas than get nuked in five years, after another president’s in and Iran’s finally WON, which is the ONLY WAY IRAN WILL FINISH THIS UNLESS ALL THEIR NUCLEAR CAPABILITIES ARE DEMOLISHED…They WILL WIN.

I’m disappointed in the whole thing and this does NOTHING for Trump….I think he needs to get some sleep, personally!

“If they don’t honor it, we’ll probably go back to bombing them…until they honor it.”

Ya, right.
😦

Geeez: "Iran will win unless we finish them off, once and for all."

Is she suggesting genocide for an entire civilization?

Here's Tom Nichols, an American writer, academic specialist on international affairs, and retired professor at the U.S. Naval War College. His work dealt with issues involving Russia, nuclear weapons, and national security affairs:

"...Trump’s view of global politics: States are just a bunch of playing cards that he can rearrange at will, which makes watching him talk about foreign policy this way like watching someone cheating at solitaire. Even now, after many years as president, he is constantly frustrated to find out how little leverage he has when other nations refuse to abandon their own interests and do as he commands.

Trump’s comments about the Middle East may not make any sense, but one thing that has emerged in 4K clarity is that the only world leader who got pantsed worse than Trump in all of this was Netanyahu. No one should pity Israel’s prime minister: He brought this situation upon himself and his nation. Netanyahu, along with the Iran-war hawks in the United States, somehow thought that he could be smart or flattering or persuasive enough to avoid the inevitable burn that comes from trusting Donald Trump. Netanyahu refused to see that Trump, when it comes to self-interest, is as predictable as a sunrise: When something he’s involved with goes bad, he walks away and lets others suffer the chaos he’s created.

In the past, Trump has tried to conjure new circumstances by speaking them aloud and attempting to wish them into existence. His tired garble in France, however, is something different. It suggests that Trump, more than ever, is unable to fathom what’s happening in the world around him and has been reduced to turning all of his previous statements upside down: A regime that was once the epitome of evil is now a reasonable partner; nuclear material that once represented an existential threat to America might now sit in Iran forever; Syria and Iran and Israel and Lebanon will now do things that they would never do, just because he wants them to.

None of this makes any sense, except as desperate rationalizations from a man who cannot face facts and admit defeat. Trump has always had a tenuous relationship with the truth, but evidence is mounting that on the most important questions of war and peace, the president of the United States seems to be losing his grip on reality itself."

American hegemony is ending. In the long run very likely a good thing.

Sanctions against another country never work forever. Especially with Proud people. Iranians, like the Americans are very proud people.

Iranians, like any other country have the right to sell their counties oil resources on the open market.

What makes this a very bad deal is the lack of inspections to insure Iran has no nuclear weapon capability going forward.

Perhaps the solution is to require the Zionist Israel to leave Palestine, make reparations for stealing the Palestinians land, and require the Zionists to pay the Palestinians for the pain and suffering they gave experienced at the hands of the Zionists since 1948.

Shaw... she's part of the bomb them back to the Stone Age crowd. Even while she has many Persian friends in Los Angeles.

Here's a better comment that highlights the lunacy of some...

"Iran is basically a conquered country at this time. As opposed to the past, we don’t have to kill thousands. Their military is gone. So are their leaders, their nuclear facilities, and the scientists that ran the facilities. Economically, they have oil, but the market isn’t so friendly to allow the profits needed to rebuild."

Iran is not a conquered country. Not at all and anyone who asserts that is woefully uninformed. Their military, by our own DoD estimates, still has over 70% of its military and missile capability. Again, those estimates are from our own DoD. Yes, they have oil and the price is way higher now on the market than it was 6 months ago. So the per barrel profit will be up as they sell on the sanction free market.

How do these folks process?

Another perspective...

Trump just gave Iran a $0.10 on the $1.00 consolation prize to rejoin the world economic system.

from Google AI: Direct expenditures for Iran's nuclear program are estimated to be between $100 billion and $200 billion over several decades. However, the total cost is far higher when factoring in the devastating indirect costs of international sanctions and isolation, which economic analysts estimate to be between $2 trillion and $3 trillion.

Dave Miller said...

Les... you are correct. There is absolutely no mention of international nuclear inspections of any kind. Those inspections were part of the JCPOA. Here's the text of that now abrogated agreement...

"The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be requested to monitor
and verify the voluntary nuclear-related measures as detailed in this JCPOA. The IAEA will be requested to provide regular updates to the Board of Governors, and as provided for in this JCPOA, to the UN Security Council. All relevant rules and regulations of the IAEA with regard to the protection of information will be fully observed by all parties involved."

Nothing like that is in this "deal".

But somehow, we're not allowed, like the MAGA people, to say others want us "nuked by Iran!"

As long as they can murder their own people for being dissidents and no one interferes they win.
We should have leveled Iran and made it a parking lot for Christmas shopping.
Bad people on both sides and incompetent on one side which is our side.

Shaw Kenawe said...

We kill our dissidents too, but not on the scale that Iran does. Nevertheless, we do kill our own protesters, dissidents and law breaker who haven’t faced trials. LEOs have been known to commit extra- judicial killings of Americans. And in his first term, Trump asked why protesters couldn’t be shot in the legs.

Law enforcement officers in the U.S. fatally shoot or kill roughly 100 to 150 people each year during traffic stops and routine infractions.Tracking data and key details on these traffic stop-related fatalities:

Annual Rates: Recent tracking from the 2025 Police Violence Report shows that over 110 people were killed in a single year after being stopped for traffic violations.

Recent Totals: Between 2016 and 2021, police killed over 400 drivers or passengers who were unarmed and not being pursued for a violent crime.

Demographic Disparities: Independent researchers like Mapping Police Violence report that Black individuals are disproportionately harmed and make up a significant portion of those killed in these low-level enforcement encounters.

”During the summer of 2020, President Donald Trump repeatedly asked military and law enforcement officials why protesters couldn't be shot. The incident was documented in several books and corroborated by his former Cabinet officials:

The Request: During racial justice demonstrations in Washington, D.C., Trump asked his top military and law enforcement officials, including then-Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley, "Can't you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something?"

Prior Reports: Similar accounts were initially reported by Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender, who noted in his book that Trump repeatedly demanded that officials be "hard on them" and asked if they could shoot demonstrators "in the leg—or maybe the foot".

The Aftermath: Gen. Mark Milley and Mark Esper strongly opposed the suggestion. Former Defense Secretary Esper detailed the Oval Office confrontation in his memoir, "A Sacred Oath," calling the request shocking and surreal.”

And you anymouse @4:55 PM are no better, and perhaps far worse than Netanyahu, the human butcher of Zionist Israel.

IOW, you're a A-hole.

Les Carpenter said...

Shaw, why don't you address the Zionist genocide? The obvious intent of Zionist israel to solidify Zionist hegemony throughout thr Middle Esst? The evils of the Balfour giveaway of Palestine to the Jews?

Iranians and Arabs have legitimate grievances against the USA and Europe. Very legitimate.

What right do white European and whites from the USA have to dictate to the Middle East and extract their resources and wealth for their gain?

Frankly, it's time the capitalist west looks honestly and deeply at itself. If it ever does it will not like what it sees.

Sorry if I offended. But I'm getting sick and tired of Americans dancing around the real problem and claiming such goddamn righteous intent. Which is merely putting salve over everyone's eyes so they look away from the truth.

Les, I assume you are not a fan of Israel, or of US corporations or of republicans. We give Israel a base line of 3.8 billion a year because 1. There are so many in the US including the senate minority leader 2. they are a stabilizing force in the middle east 3. they are democrats.
Why you hate the US corporations who employ our workers I don't know.

Les Carpenter said...

Corporations were fine before Citizens United... I hate corporate money in politics, skud

Zionist Israel is NOT a stabilizing force in the Middle East. It is the exact opposite and the reason for most of the problems. You've simply bought the BS of the Zionist Lobby in DC and the genocidal butcher and narcissist Netanyahu.

Wether Zionists are democrat or republican makes little to no difference. As I'm sure you know Zionist Israel has blown the same smoke up the asses of both parties to get their way with the US government and Billions to destroy Palestines infrastructure and attempt to eradicate them from the planet.

There is A Lot you don't know skud and A Lot you think you know that isn't so.

Wow, FJoe. The Kool Kids call this a Cope or Kope. Talk about lipstick on a pig. A Mara Lago pig with bloated filler injected lips. That's alotta lipstick.

What's the math on cents to $ for the 1.7B frozen assets released by the JPCOA? Iran's uranium enrichment was limited to 3.76% with comprehensive inspections. Y'all (the Right) called that appeasement. Trumps' MOU, $24B unfrozen assets released and $300B to rebuild, keep their missile program, nothing on enrichment, nothing on funding proxies, nothing on human rights and agreeing to open the Strait under Iran's conditions and you call it a savvy deal.

For someone who plays a smart guy on the internet, I gotta question your analysis there, Joe.
