Meet The New Loonies, Same As The Old Loonies

If you thought the 2010 midterms brought in a group of elephant-sized clowns, think again.  Here is a partial list of what the Gee-Oh-Pee-ers managed to get elected to the U.S. Congress.  I'm wondering why Ted "I Crapped My Pants" Nugent isn't among these nutcases.

This is the guy the Gee-Oh-Pee-ers in Colorado elected:

Gordon "Dr. Chaps" Klingenschmitt, a radical anti-gay Religious Right activist who brags of having once tried to rid of woman of the "foul spirit of lesbianism" through an exorcism and who openly proclaims that "American law needs to reflect God's law" and that our foreign policy must be based on the Bible, won election to the Colorado House of Representatives [on Tuesday].

Klingenschmitt, who wrote a book about how President Obama is possessed by demons and once performed an exorcism of Obama, ran an utterly embarrassing campaign yet nonetheless managed to defeat his Democratic opponent by nearly 40 points.

Here are more of the wackos the Gee-Oh-Pee-ers were proud to call their own and to send to the U.S. Congress:

"You know that Republican doctor who got one of his patients pregnant and then demanded that she get an abortion?
Yeah, he won Tuesday night.

How about the indicted guy who threatened to throw a reporter over a Capitol Hill balcony? Yep. Him too.
Election Day was packed with surprises — and some of the biggest were in House races.

Two Republican members of Congress managed to win despite federal investigations and bad behavior so far-fetched that even the writer's room at "Scandal" would take a pass on their stories.

Look at Tennessee's 4th Congressional District, where Rep. Scott Desjarlais cruised to re-election over token Democratic opposition.

Desjarlais, a physician by trade, was first elected in 2010, but this election marked his first time on the ballot since a full accounting of his torrid personal life "burst into view two years ago. His divorce proceedings, made public in late 2012, revealed that the pro-life Republican had slept with multiple patients and impregnated one of them before pressuring her to get an abortion. He also demanded that his ex-wife terminate two pregnancies.

"Also, San Diego city councilman Carl DeMaio -- who faced accusations of sexual misconduct before being cleared of wrongdoing -- was holding on to a very slim lead in his quest to unseat incumbent Democratic Rep. Scott Peters. The race has still not been called as of Wednesday."

This is what the GOP has given the U.S.:   MORE LOONIES!

"According to a CNN exit poll, 8 in 10 Americans disapprove of how Congress has been handling its job, while almost 6 in 10 are displeased with President Obama.

A full 44% have a positive view of Democrats; 40% have a positive view of Republicans.

Americans have just elected the party they like the least to run the government body they least trust. Even greater cynicism is the most likely outcome."

But wait!  Cheer up people!

A Victory for the Left!

Chin up, Democrats. Republicans may have won the Senate, but the country is headed your way.

MEANWHILE, THIS IS WHAT THE COWARDLY DEMOCRATS RUNNING FOR ELECTION RAN AWAY FROM:

October adds 214,000 jobs.

Unemployment rate drops to 5.8%, lowest since July 2008.

Gas down to $2.50 a gallon.

I know, blame Obama.

Wow, just wow!

A defenseless innocent 3 year old died in PA, beaten to death by evil people. Somehow this shit doesn't seem so
goddamned important today.

Let a hundred Gohmerts bloom! Maybe having all these nutjobs cavort on the national stage is just what we need from now until 2016. If sane people don't vote, let them have their noses rubbed in the consequences.

Couldn't have said better, Infidel.

RN, that sort of evil happens too often. Two years ago 20 children lost their lives in Newtown to evil, and this country wouldn't move to have background checks to make sure mentally ill/unstable people do not get their hands on guns. A simple, sensible thing. The NRA made sure that wouldn't happen.

We're a country that has lost its mind.

Tuesday is just more evidence.

Infidel753, now that they have Congress, the loonies will have to govern, something they haven't done in 6 years. BTW, Tuesday was one of the lowest turn outs for an election. A minority of loonies has taken over the country.

Marc McKenzie, Infidel753 has a way of distilling things down to their simple truths.

To those of you who say "both sides do it", I challenge you to find a similar list of loonies and their crazy statements on the left.

Someday you'll understand the issue is power. Absolute power to benefit those in power. History has MANY examples of left and right power crazed idiots and the results are clearly visible.

Really folks it's a game WITH THE PLAYERS VYING FOR TOTAL POWER.

Good day.

Republicans govern? Good luck with that. They couldn't even agree among themselves on what their demands should be during the debt-ceiling hostage drama a year ago, and their caucus is much more loony-enhanced now than it was then. We may get a law against those "foul spirits of lesbianism", but I'm not expecting much more. Oh, they'll throw plenty of bombs, but those won't get past Obama's veto.

Jerry: Of course they can't but Republicans long ago transcended the stodgy old idea that their talking points have to have any connection with reality. Compared with global-warming denialism, "both parties have extremists" is a mere white lie.

RN, yes, history has examples of power grabs, but what we're talking about here is the new crop of loonies that were voted into Congress by a tyranny of the minority. There was a larger turn-out in the last presidential election 2 years ago which was, in effect, a yes vote on the A.C.A. When we hear that a majority of Americans are unhappy with the ACA, people fail to take into account the fact that among those unhappy with it are people who believe the ACA DOESN'T DO ENOUGH.

So two years ago millions of people went to the polls and said yes to Mr. Obama and the A.C.A., as well as the rest of his policies. The minority party dug in even harder against the president who won two terms. Now that the GOP is in charge of the Congress, they're calling for "cooperation" to stop the gridlock from the Executive Branch.

When we consider what the T-GOP has engaged in over the last 6 years, that is truly a statement of lunacy.

The Democrats who ran away from this president ran away from good economic news, which would have been better had the GOP done what they now demand Mr. Obama do COOPERATE and stop the gridlock.

There seems to be no bottoming out to the GOP's treachery.

This is dodging the question. Jerry was challenging the false-equivalence crowd to provide examples of Democrats with equally crazy ideas, equivalent to calling Obama demon-possessed, evolution as a "lie from the pit of Hell", and so forth. No one can do that, because any claim that the two parties are equally infested with crazies is outrageously false.

"Power crazed" is just a metaphor for power-hungry. It's changing the subject, a favorite conservative tactic when cornered by unanswerable facts. It has nothing to do with the literal derangement which many prominent Republicans, but zero prominent Democrats, exemplify.

"... this complete nihilism in terms of governing is actually quite emblematic of the most powerful forces in the GOP today. Fox News and the entire conservative media-industrial complex have no real interest in Republican governance. They thrive on conflict and on opposition. How many ratings-rich shows are they going to produce on tax reform? They have created an alternate cultural universe for the right where the craziest tub-thumpers get the most attention and where the boring, necessary act of governing is anathema."

We can start with rabidly antisemitic Keith Ellison, Hamas' man in Congress. I assume he got re-elected, didn't he?

For every Tea Party caucus cook there's a Progressive Caucus kook.

And how about the man who insisted Gaum could capsize like a boat?

Shaw, Shaw, Shaw... you know that people have spoken only when they speak for the GOP agenda...

I had this very discussion recently with a conservative and their response essentially that yes, Obama won and the American people voted for him and his agenda, but they were wrong, so it was principled to oppose him.

It is a type of thinking that has no logic, and cannot be challenged...

Joe "Truth 101" Kelly said...

It's like this Shaw. As long as there's an r by the candidates name we republicans really don't care what sins they've committed. As Christians we'll be forgiven anyway. We have an alderman in my town who didn't pay employee Social Security taxes on his employees for 10 years. He's a republican and a hero for not paying taxes. That the money was deducted from the employees checks doesn't matter to us as he's a republican and votes whatever way he's told by the rich republicans. In a way the criminal record keeps them in line cause we can primary them out if they stray from our doctrine.
This republican gig is working out pretty well for me Dmarks. There's talk of running me for something once I can get a criminal record.

Dave: "...their response essentially that yes, Obama won and the American people voted for him and his agenda, but they were wrong, so it was principled to oppose him."

Brilliant. The loonies can't lose with that crazy logic, can they. And these are the kind of people a minority of Americans voted in to run Congress.

Joe, in addition to being a criminal, you need to get your crazy on by telling your followers with an "R" after their name that you're getting information about Obama and the DemocRATS through the filling in your molars and the fillings in your molars have identified Obama as the anti-Christ America-hater who eats live kittehs!

You'll be a shoo-in and they'll probably run you as their next presidential candidate along with Sarah "The Drunken Brawler" Palin.

The Gee-Oh-Pee-ers' dream ticket.

You betcha!

Shaw Kenawe said...

Joe, you've gotta be like this true-red Republican who called C-SPAN:

Republican Calls CSPAN and Admits they ‘Hate That N*gger Obama’

These are the dregs who elected this new Congress.

Congratulations America! You got the crazies, you deal with them.

We can start with rabidly antisemitic Keith Ellison, Hamas' man in Congress. I assume he got re-elected, didn't he?

Yes, he did, with 71% of the vote.

dmarks, you seem like a reasonable guy so I'm a little surprised by your smear of Keith Ellison. He's my congressman. I first met him in 2006 at the district convention. He was running to replace Martin Sabo in Congress. The antisemite charges were already being made stemming from two editorials he wrote in the U of M paper defending Farrakhan and Nation of Islam. He was a law student, it was 1995 and he was organizing the MN delegation to the Million Man March.

Long before 2006 he denounced N of I and acknowledged their antisemitism and repudiated Farrakhan. In the '06' election he got an endorsement from American Jewish World, Minnesota's Jewish weekly.

This year he won the Mpls. suberb, St. Louis Park, with 62% of the vote. SLP has a larger population of Jews than any city in the state. Most famous SLPers, Al Franken, the Coen brothers and Norm Ornstein. See a trend?

Ellison has condemned rocket attacks on Israel as well as the Gaza blockade. He's in favor of a 2 state solution, just like the Republican party platform. If that makes him Hama's man in Congress, he's got company on the Right side of the Isle.

These allegations of antisemitism and worse, he's a secret terrorist, get dredged up on Fox every so often and, dmarks, you've been played. If you've got some evidence of Ellison's rabid antisemitism, show me.

Joe "Truth 101" Kelly said...

You're wrong RN. The rabid loyalty of the r's is unrivaled. The poorest states are red. Wisconsin gave us Scott Brown. They cross over in Massachussettes to vote for the r. They voted for Scwarzenegger in California.

Ever heard of "Reagan democrats"?

Infidel753 said...

Once again, as so often happens here, RN made a flagrantly-untrue claim of equivalence between left and right, got called on it, tried to weasel out of his lie by twisting meanings, got called on that, and finally tries to shrug off being caught in another deliberate falsehood.

Liar, hypocrite, weasel. Not a shred of honesty or decency.

Typical conservative.

That would be Hank Johnson who was suffering from hepatic encephalopathy at the time which causes mental confusion.

Take some time to inform yourself.

The giddier members of the courtier press like to refer to this as a "wave."

You can't have a wave when barely one-third of eligible voters show up at the polls.

This isn't some deep philosophical representation of 'Merica.

This is the Republicans being better at getting their base out. And the Democrats playing the political equivalent of the prevent defense.

I'm all in.

Looks like the equivalency team is 0 for 2.

dmarks said...

Ducky: That does not excuse his lunacy, or staying in office when he knew he was not fit. I did inform myself. Whatever the reason for the "mental confusion" of the fringe groups within the Republicans or Democrats which causes them to rave like this.

dmarks said...

Craig: No smear at all. Wanting to end the blockade... which prevents weapons from going to Hamas... is part of Hamas' agenda. And Ellison supports it. So is stopping Israel from firing back at the sources of the rockets (also part of Ellison's plan). You have to be really tilted, and antisemitic, to see some sort of equivalence between the two sides.

Good that Ellison has somewhat repudiated the extremely bigoted, supremacist, and racist agenda of the NOI. But you have to wonder about a man who was ever so deranged and full of hate to embrace this ideology in the first place. I say the same about those who joined the Klan.

And the problems are more recent than 1995. We can also consider his receiving donations from CAIR (a Hamas support front in the US) in 2006. His support for Hamas and close friendship with the extremists in their CAIR group goes on to the current day. He definitely counts as one of the "loons".

He hasn't repudiated terrorism/antisemitism. I've not been "played". Perhaps you have been. And it has nothing to do with Fox and him being a "Secret terrorist". His friendship with those who seek to kill off all Jews is no secret.

dmarks said...

RN: You proved the "equivalency" case handily. As you are not a liberal, and no longer a conservative, you don't have a dog on the fight. Not having a dog in the fight means you won't be excusing "loons" for having a (D) or (R) after their name. Nor will you try to see any profound difference in the political behaviour of both "sides" when there really is little.

dmarks said...

Craig: I also found something else long after 1995. In 2008, the "Muslim American Society", a PR branch of the very extreme, very terroristic "Muslim Brotherhood".... the group that organized rape patrols and assaulted those who didn't worship the Muslim god during its reign of terror in Egypt.... gave Ellison an expensive gift in the form of a "junket" to the Middle East. Yes, that's right, Ellison received and enjoyed a gift from the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood.

It is illegal not to disclose such, but he broke the law and tried to hide it. Since it was pretty shameful to receive luxury travel from a major global terror network, I guess I can see why.

http://www.startribune.com/politics/statelocal/51361722.html

Then it is not surprising he wants Israel to stop fighting back, and he wants the blockade against weapons to Hamas to be ended. Craig, both of those stances, which are Ellison's are genocidal in nature, and are FAR different from merely supporting a "Two-state solution".
