National Guard activated in Flint, Michigan, water crisis:
Snyder activated the state National Guard on Wednesday to assist with the water crisis. Seven guardsmen arrived in the town Wednesday, and up to 30 are expected by Friday, Snyder said in a news release. They will help distribute bottled water and water filters at fire stations and other public buildings, he said. That will allow Red Cross volunteers to go door-to-door to hand out water, filters and testing kits.
FEMA announced that it approved Snyder's request for federal assistance, according to agency spokesman Rafael Lemaitre. The governor had asked FEMA to step in to coordinate with other federal agencies.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Eastern Michigan is investigating the water crisis and a class- action lawsuit was filed against Snyder, the state government and the city of Flint.

It's a horrible situation for Flint's residents. It was irresponsible to draw the water supply from the Flint River if it had such a reputation for pollution.

I saw that pictured timeline earlier... This is bad stuff, no matter how one views stuff... The presser where the doc was shaking her head no yesterday was telling about the pols trying to save their skins.

On Wednesday, just days after it was revealed the Republican governor of Michigan had knowingly poisoned the children of Flint, Michigan, with polluted river water, the GOP-led congress passed a bill that would block EPA efforts to care for the water quality of America’s pristine waterways.
Flint, Michigan, lies about 70 miles from the shores of the largest group of fresh water bodies in the world: the Great Lakes. Yet its residents can’t get clean water from their taps.
Remember, it's the right wing that continually claims Mr. Obama ruined America.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is hiding information, refusing to release correspondence and documents around the decision to use contaminated water in Flint.
Elected officials have a duty to protect the public, not harm us. In Flint, they failed miserably. Every American, especially the children who were poisoned, deserves the truth of exactly how this happened.
And because Michigan is one of just two states with a blanket exemption for the governor’s office to the Freedom of Information Act, we’ll only learn what really happened in Flint if we stand together and demand it.
Let's not forget that one day years ago, a GOP President knew how important clean water was for Americans and established the EPA.
While not perfect, and in fact a president truly tainted by scandal, at least Nixon knew the importance of clean, safe drinking water.
This crowd?
It does not seem like it.
But I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. So I will withhold judgement until I hear their response on this issue and their ideas on how we can prevent problems like this in the future.
I hope I hear more than the proverbial crickets...

FLINT, Mich. — The latest on the drinking water crisis in Flint, Michigan (all times local):
1:30 p.m.
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has told the federal government that the needs of people in Flint during the water crisis “far exceed the state’s capability.”
Snyder says emergency measures could cost $41 million, including $10 million for a three-month supply of clean drinking water and millions more for filters, filter cartridges and water testing kits. The details are in the state’s application for a federal disaster declaration and financial help.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest says the request will be considered “expeditiously.”
Flint’s tap water became contaminated with lead after the city switched water supplies in 2014 while a new pipeline was under construction. Corrosive water leached lead from old pipes.
July 2015: "“Let me start here – anyone who is concerned about lead in the drinking water in Flint can relax,” spokesman Brad Wurfel said at the time."
Speaking of Flint, guess who just praised Governor Snyder for how he's handled the water crisis? Unbelievable.
