Romney Trashes Trump!

"Donald Trump is a phony and a fraud!"

"His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University."

"He's playing the American people for suckers."

Never in my life have I seen such a blistering attack on a presidential front-runner from a member of the same party!

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the irony in Gov. Romney calling on Trump to release his tax returns?

It wasn't too long ago that Romney refused to release many of his prior year tax returns, standing firm against Pres Obama and media calls for a larger offering.

"Speaking in a stately college auditorium, there was little precedent for Romney’s remarks: Never before in modern political history has the immediate past nominee of a party delivered an entire speech condemning the current front-runner. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) – the party’s 2008 nominee – later said he shared Romney’s concerns." Ed Okeefe, WaPo

It's not just you, Dave.

However, as thorough an arse kicking as Trump received I expect it to backfire.
Having Romney attack is just going to elevate him in the eyes of his base. It will be a
different story in the general but for now we can just sit back and watch the Republicans steam
off 30+ % of their members with a brokered convention.

Almost on cue, Trump said Romney should be on his knees in front of him...

And this is the man many conservatives believe will restore the perceived damage to America's honor that has been cause by President Obama...

Such a man of honor, full of virtue and a living example of their interpretation of family and Christian values...

It's tribal, Dave. Trump is everything an Evangelical right wing TeaPublican should detest, but instead, they love him because he wants to take a wrecking ball to the GOP -- sort of what the TeaPublicans dream of doing to the country, and what they tried to do to Mr. Obama's presidency.

The mainstream republicans are beginning to poop their pants.

Trump, the new republican laxative.

You all may want to look at the voter turn out for both parties in the primary. Is very interesting and could be very telling for the general.

I do have a problem with Romney going after Trump after seeking and accepting Trump's support/endorsement. But that's Mitt and I'm sure it is to curry favor with the establishment republicans who are putting him up to his hammer job.

Maybe Mitt is looking to be the RNC Chairman.

On one hand, Romney is being hypocritical. He and other members of his party have scapegoated marginalized groups (specifically, LGBTQ people and immigrants), worked tirelessly to take rights away from women, and nurtured their supporters' ugliest attitudes.

On the other hand, Romney IS right. Trump should not be allowed anywhere near the presidency.

You're correct, Ahab. Romney is hypocritical. But he's a Republican.
