"There were no Syrians involved."

On Monday, right wingers took to their keyboards to report on a horrible rape in Idaho perpetrated by Syrian refugees.  Without waiting to see if the veracity of this story held up, several right wing blogs published the false reports.

Gateway Pundit:

Police investigating: Idaho Child Raped and Abused by Muslim Refugee Youths, No Arrests

Infidel Blogger's Alliance:

"The joys of taking in Muslim refugees: Idaho:

Muslim Migrants RAPE 5-year-old, hold KNIFE to her throat, strip her naked, rape, and urinate on her."

Alex Jones Info Wars:

REPORT: THREE SYRIAN “REFUGEES” RAPE LITTLE GIRL AT KNIFEPOINT IN IDAHOFurious residents accuse council of cover-up

Read the blood-thirsty comments on the blogs to see how crazed these people are, willing to believe ANYTHING to reinforce their hatreds and fears.

To say these people are irresponsible is understatement. They are incendiary agitators who latch onto any rumor in order to keep people crazed and ready to start hunting down Muslims, any Muslim, for retribution.

UPDATED: Story of Syrian refugees raping Idaho girl is wrong, prosecutor saysProsecutor: “There were no Syrians involved ... there was no gang-rape”

No Syrians have been resettled to Twin Falls, officials say

Authorities are denying reports that Syrians gang-raped a child at knife-point in a Twin Falls apartment complex earlier this month, saying the false claims are being spread to incite anti-refugee sentiments.

“There were no Syrians involved, there was no knife involved, there was no gang-rape,” Twin Falls County Prosecutor Grant Loebs said Monday morning.

His comments largely refute several differing accounts about the incident circulating on anti-refugee resettlement and conspiracy websites and anti-Muslim blogs. Most of those accounts claim a group of Syrian refugees sexually assaulted a mentally disabled girl at knife-point June 2 in the laundry facilities of Fawnbrook Apartments, a low-income housing complex in Twin Falls, and that the attack was celebrated by the perpetrators’ families as city officials orchestrated a cover-up.

Investigators and the prosecutor were quick to dismiss nearly all those claims Monday. Loebs said he didn’t want to “fan the flames of anti-Syrian refugee people” but suspects the false reports are the work of a local group opposed to refugee resettlement who hoped to stir up trouble by claiming the incident involved Syrian refugees who committed a violent sexual assault.

“There is a small group of people in Twin Falls County whose life goal is to eliminate refugees, and thus far they have not been constrained by the truth,” Loebs said. “They have not been constrained by the truth in the past, and I don’t expect them to be constrained by the truth in the future.”

An incident did occur, Loebs said, and two juveniles have been charged after authorities obtained video shot on a cellphone. But the details of the case don’t match what’s being reported by anti-refugee groups, the prosecutor said.

As a former Secret Service agent, here's my best security advice:
1. Ignore Obama. He knows absolutely nothing about security and his proposals aren't only ignorant, they're dangerous.
2. Stay out of "gun-free" zones. They are only "gun-free" for the good guys and they are magnets for killers and terrorists.
3. Acquire & learn to use a rifle & pistol. Terrorists only understand force and laws mean less than nothing to them.

So Dan, you're for arming all 350+ million Americans? What a idiotic idea.

You do understand that no other civilized country on the planet has the number of firearm deaths that we do. And we have the most firearms in cirulation. If guns make us safe, how come we're not the safest country in the world? We're not, you know. We're one of the most dangerous.

Explain.

There apparently is a segment that is strongly anti-immigrant in Twin Falls and the
incident involved mid-eastern youths. The incident fired up those people and became an instant example of mountain from mole hill digital pseudogossip.
Keep in mind Idaho is the home of Hayden Lake, Ruby Ridge and an inbred fear of
black helicopters.

Shaw, "Dan" put that same comment up at the rabid far right radical blog AOW. They're all foaming-at-the mouth crazy there.

They'll follow any rumor if it fits in with their hatred and fear of Muslims. Plus they're gullible and will believe anything. They support Trump.

BB-Idaho, that anti-Muslim segment isn't limited to Idaho. The far right has been doing a great job of stirring up the fearful and ignorant.

One should keep this case in mind when reading about alleged incidents of sexual attacks by refugees in Europe. The radical-right types over there are just as capable of making things up as the ones over here.

I must point out, though, that one person in the news might indeed be a child-rapist.

Tabloid trash or truth?

We'll have to wait and see.

RN, wait and see is the correct way of dealing with an accusation like that.

ARoTPB,

Thanks for the heads-up. I've had an infestation of right wing trolls over the past few weeks. The infestation coincided with Trump's slide in the polls.

It's no surprise to me the Senate voted down two gun bills today. For those of you who were surprised, you have not been paying attention, for years. For those of you who are mad about those votes today, what are you going to do? For those of you who are going to name call Republicans, claim again that Republicans are sick, immoral bastards, thanks for stating the obvious.
Do you think, if we had a Democratic majority in the Senate, those two gun bills would have passed? If your answer is yes, then you know what has to be done. And things won't change by just electing Clinton president of the United States.
For me, I reached the end of the line on guns (high capacity kill machines) many years ago. For the country, I thought they had reached the end of the line on these killing machines after children were massacred at Sandy Hook. I was wrong.
We used to have a ban on these kind of guns, but then Republicans decided that was not a good idea. What a surprise! Like Republicans know what a good idea is!
One bill was about not selling guns to those who are on the terrorist watch list. The other bill was about getting background checks on those buying guns over the internet, or at gun shows. Both ideas are supported by a vast majority of Americans, including members of the NRA. Both bills failed pretty much on party line votes.
I'm sure the founding fathers would be horrified to think a law could say no individual Americans could own guns. In fact it was such a given, that they never mentioned it. The 2nd amendment is about a military group, or a militia. At that time there was no standing army, so Americans were called on to defend the new country. They had to have a right to own guns in order to fulfill a militia requirement. We have had a standing army for centuries now. The army supplies our service people with guns and other arms.
We should amend the 2nd amendment to clearly state what non-military/militia, individual gun rights are. I'm all for individual Americans owing guns as long as there are limits on the power of those weapons and the number of weapons one individual can own. The amendment should also state a requirement on background checks, both criminal and mental. The right, is a federal right, and the federal government should have the authority to define and state rules and regulations on the use and sale of those guns, not the States. Our bureaucracy is so screwed up that many fall through the cracks, and we will have to tighten that also.
Unless Democrats get majority, nothing will be done to change gun laws. This election is the opportunity to make a change on gun laws. At this point we can't even reinstate a ban on assault weapons. Which used to be the law of the land until Republicans ended that law, even though they voted for it when the law was originally passed. I wonder what changed their minds?

All this gun control nonsense is just fodder for pointing political blame. What gun law would have stopped any of the mass shootings or for that matter the killings in Chicago.
Why not go with violence control instead of gun control. PC has made law enforcement extremely difficult and all the politicians can accomplish is blaming the other side.
The only think that will work is raid every house and confiscate all firearms. Melt them down and build a Studebaker.

Of course this is jut my opinion and your opinion may differ.

What gun law would have stopped any of the mass shootings? really? Get outside of your bubble and educate yourself. It will be so liberating!

Australia's gun laws stopped mass shootings and reduced homicides, study finds. Reforms still having positive effect 20 years on, as landmark study shows accelerated reduction in rates of suicide and homicide deaths caused by firearms.

skudrunner: "PC has made law enforcement extremely difficult and all the politicians can accomplish is blaming the other side."

Here's what "law enforcement" has to say about allowing automatic weapons in circulation. Those weapons have made law enforcement extremely difficult and dangerous.

skudrunner said...

Shaw,

To the best of my knowledge none of the mass shootings have involved an automatic weapon. Perhaps you have different information which you can share.
I assume you know that there are more than 300 million guns in the US. How many of the shooters used legally purchased weapons and would tougher gun laws have prevented any of them?
Why don't the dems work with the repubs and hammer out a bill instead of just blaming the other side. Neither side will capitulate and accomplish anything because they would lose their talking points.
I favor restricting large capacity clips and mandatory education to own a gun but neither of those would stop any of the shootings. How about enforcing the law? How about stop and frisk? How about not making LEO's afraid to confront anyone who the suspect because they will be accused of "profiling".

Even though a lot of people lie to advance their agenda, I still find it mind-blowing.

There was an incident in Idaho and it did involve a 5 yr old girl, but the alleged perpetrators were 3 boys, 10 and under. Not that I’m condoning their behaviour, but facts are facts and these liars really should do some self-reflecting.
