Trump's Big Nothing Burger in Mexico

Trump attempted a "do over" in Mexico today.

Trump said he didn't talk about building his wall in Mexico and making Mexico pay for it.

Trump didn't tell President Peña Nieto that he's sending 11 million illegals back to Mexico but will let only the "good ones" back in, did he.

Trump didn't tell President Peña Nieto that Mexicans are murderers and rapists, did he.

Trump said he didn't discuss the wall with President  Peña Nieto, but that is a lie.

This is the tweet Mexican President Peña Nieto made after the Nothing Burger Trump meeting:

Translation:

"At the start of the conversation with Donald Trump, I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall."

Trump lied.  Again.

Donnie tried a "do over" today, but he can't undo the insults to Mexico he's tweeted over the last year. The Mexican people still detest the short-fingered vulgarian.

Here are his insulting tweets:

White Nationalists adored Trump's speech. Trump is a hero to the KKK branch of the GOP.

I am still at a loss to understand why EPN did this, as are a majority of the Mexican people. He remained mum in front of The Donald and basically let the pride of Mexico get crushed. For a president with only a 25% approval rating, and that from the hard core PRI supporters, to just sit there and essentially be a prop for Trump was astonishing.

In this case I think i believe Trump... the wall never came up and EPN was caught needing a face saving statement, so he lied.

And then Trump returns to home soil and talks a ton of trash, even speaking of limiting legal immigration.

It was a breathtaking day.

Dave,

EPN disgraced himself and embarrassed the Mexican people, that's for sure.

Donald Trump's immigration harangue was appalling and an embarrassment to everything America stands for.

Everyone who has functioning brain cells knows that Trump's immigration plan to deport 11 million people is a fantasy. He would NOT be able to carry that out -- no one could. He gives no thought to the human disaster it would be. What's frightening is the people who actually believe and cheer this maniac on.

As I said on another blog, I'll bet Trump's last night's harangue in Arizona would have sounded even better in German.

Charlie Pierce:

This is how Donald Trump began his speech on Wednesday night.

"Tonight is not going to be a normal rally speech. Instead, I am going to deliver a detailed policy address on one of the greatest challenges facing our country today: immigration."

Whew. I'm glad he told us that. If that was a detailed policy address, I'd have hated to see the rally speech. He'd have biting the heads off live chickens by the third paragraph.

Quite simply, for almost 98 minutes, the presidential candidate of one of our two major political parties did a very convincing imitation of someone who should not be allowed out in public without a keeper, and whose keeper should not be allowed anywhere near him without a net, sufficient backup, and a tranquilizer gun capable of inducing coma in a herd of drunken elephants.

Again, this was the only story to be covered on Wednesday night. It obliterated the earlier dog-and-pony show in Mexico. It made a jackass out of every member of the media who ever has used the word "presidential" in any connection with El Caudillo del Mar-A-Lago, and particularly those members of the media who got played for suckers on Wednesday afternoon.

Charlie Pierce:

Once again, confronted with an authoritarian loon showing his brightly painted ass to the world, the elite political media proved utterly incapable of conveying to the nation what the nation could plainly see for itself. Journalism is flummoxing itself because it is incapable of confronting what it must confront.

Trump's speech was an embarrassment to the American people, the real Americans, not the Trump Americans.

Shaw... someone said Trump was winning the day until his Nuremberg speech... I couldn't stop laughing.

Love Rob Reiner's quote. I'm definitely going to use that somewhere. Did Trump bring back the check to cover the cost of that wall he's going to build?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Kevin,

The Trumpistas are all giddy over the hellish harangue that they believe was a speech. They think he's become "presidential!" With another of his spittle-flecked scream-fest that would have made Adolph proud, his gullible supporters believe he'll sweep into the White House, white sheets and all, and a check from Mexico to build his fantasy wall.

PM Carpenter said it best:

The malign sentiment [in Trump's speech] expressed was nothing new for Trump, but the slithering, stalking, Elmer Gantrylike vehemence with which he said it defined the lowest point in all of presidential campaign history. With that and similar rhetorical extravagances, Trump foamed and frothed last night like a demon-possessed evangelist, condemning his opponent to permanent exile. One is surprised only in that he stopped short of Hillary's execution, perhaps because one of his surrogates had already recommended that measure.

Trump's excited utterances were, of course, in manly compensation for his media-perceived weakness; the fresh "narrative" that he has flipped on his once-signature policy of deporting all 11 million undocumented immigrants. And yet the media's perception is inaccurate. Slipped in among Trump's rants about focusing on criminal deportations (which is an official redundancy) was this: "Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation." That was Trump's sop to the fevered nativists who revel in dreams of packed train cars headed south.

Red-faced rantings and demonization of "the other," and packed trains. Hmmmm. Where have we read this sort of thing before?

Excellent speech by Donald Trump tonight. Deport criminal aliens, end catch and release, enforce immigration laws & America First.

LMAO,

We know that. But did you know this:

"Top Latino Supporter Un-endorses Donald Trump On CNN: 'I Just Can't Be Part Of That'
Alfonso Aguilar, the president of Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, withdrew his support for Donald Trump on Thursday in response to the GOP nominee's major speech on immigration."
