We will immediately repeal and replace ObamaCare - and nobody can do that like me. We will save $'s and have much better healthcare!
Either Trump is suffering from dementia, that is, he can't remember anything that happened more than five minutes ago, or he is the biggest con man lying s.o.b. that ever disgraced the presidency.
Which is it?
President Donald Trump signaled Friday that his failed effort to repeal and replace Obamacare won’t be his last try.
“I guess I’m here what, 64 days? I never said repeal and replace Obamacare — you’ve all heard my speeches — I never said repeal it and replace it within 64 days,” Trump told reporters shortly after House Republican leaders pulled their bill to do just that. “I have a long time.”

Trump is both: a demented lying s.o.b.
PMCarpenter:
In 2013, Trump's future secretary of housing and urban development declared that Obamacare is the "worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery." Later, for 18 months on the campaign trail, Trump essentially, and consistently, mirrored that view. But now, because his boasted powers of persuasion and slick dealmaking have been exposed as fraudulent claims, Trump cravenly announces that he's prepared to leave slavery in place.
Anon, you got that right.
Best quote of the day from the NYTimes:
"...the great deal maker at the White House was completely ineffectual."
“We had no Democrat support. We had no votes from the Democrats,” Trump explained. “With no Democrats on board, we couldn’t quite get there.”
“When you get no votes from the other side ― meaning the Democrats ― it is a very difficult situation,” he said elsewhere.

See, you got it all wrong, shaw. It was the Dems who screwed up the Yuuuge, beautiful deal. So unfair.
The Tweets should be entertaining.
Anon @7:27 3/24, I believe you are correct.
Ducky, This is how our Crybaby President deals with defeat:
“When you get no votes from the other side ― meaning the Democrats ― it is a very difficult situation,”
Because Trump cannot remember anything more than 5 minutes old (or perhaps he's just stupid), Trump completely ignored that Barack Obama -- the man Trump claimed headed a "stupid government" that couldn't do anything -- that Barack Obama was able to pass one of the most momentous pieces of legislation in this and in the last century WITHOUT ONE VOTE FROM THE REPUBLICANS!
Trump is proving day by day what a weak, ineffectual little blame-weasel he is.
The rest of America and the world know that Trumpcare didn't pass because Trump is a lazy, weak, and ineffectual president.
He's making President Obama look Rooseveltian in comparison.
There is no spectacle more grimly gratifying than Rep. Nancy Pelosi when she is rubbing someone's nose in it....
From the New Yorker:
"The Health-Care Debacle Was A Failure Of Conservatism."
After 7 years of fulminating against the ACA, the House Republicans failed to come up with a workable and politically viable proposal.
I'm loving see the GOP and the extremists scream about the lack of DEM votes. Maybe the ACA would've been even better but they chose to not get involved, oppose it at every turn and offered not one vote in support of it.
Despite the roots of the plan coming from their own party.
Harry Reid may have doomed the DEMs to a life without the filibuster, but the GOP is the birthplace of voting no en masse to anything the party in power proposes.
As chuckie schumer said, the repugs change obamacare then they own it. The withdrawal of the vote will be a positive thing for the republican party and not good for the American people. Neither party gives a flip about the American people because they are the elite and we are the masses who bow down to them.
We spend hundreds of millions of dollars to fund a program that has 14 million participates. Would be far better to hand each of them a couple million and be done with it.
The one thing the repubs did wrong was letting the members see it. They really needed to take nancy's approach of we will shove this up your a-- and then we will tell you what you voted for because you are to stupid to understand it.
Skudrunner, I feel your pain.
Dave, Trump expected the Democrats to vote to repeal the signature legislation of their Democratic president? He truly is an amateur at politics. Also, as far as I know, Trump never reached out to the Democrats to work on repeal and replace.
Trump is a con artist first and foremost. He promised for months and months and months that he would repeal and replace the ACA with something cheaper and better and that EVERYONE would be covered and this all would happen on DAY ONE.
Our friend, skudrunner, in the comment below yours chooses to ignore this and continues to bellyache over Trump's and the Republicans' failure to govern.
Skud... here's your cynicism and snark is showing... "Neither party gives a flip about the American people... and this... The one thing the repubs did wrong was letting the members see it."
People choose to believe what they want to believe. To believe that the majority of Congress don't care about the American people must be a depressing place to live. We can argue about process, but I for one try to believe the great majority of our political leaders really do go into public service to help people. Even when they make stupid decisions.
Maybe the GOP proposal lost because it is just bad for the American people, they saw that, and pressured their representatives to defeat the bill. Exactly as the process is supposed to work.
We've heard for years from the GOP that the will of the people needs to be respected. In this case the will of the people of the US was against repealing the ACA.
Donald Trump says that the democrats in Congress "own" the ACA now. But that's also a lie.
Trump is the chief executive. His job is to execute the law. The ACA is the law. It's his responsibility to make it run smoothly.
When he fails at that, it will be his failure.
Dave, you're a better person than I am. Fact.
I chose not to answer skudrunner's absurd statement about neither party giving a flip about the American people.
Here's a fact I should have given skud: The Democratic Party is the only party that tried (and somewhat succeeded, though many problems remain) in helping Americans with affordable access health insurance. We are the only advanced country in the world that does not do this. The insurance corporations would have a lot to lose if America went to single payer, which is what a good many Democrats wanted -- what Bernie Sanders wanted. There are many problems with the ACA (especially with affordability for many Americans), but those problems could have been worked on and solved. They are man-made problems with solutions if the Dems and the Repubs were willing to cooperate and compromise.
The libertarian arm of the GOP (Paul Ryan, Tom Price, etc.) believe the federal government should have nothing to do with health insurance for the American people. And many Americans disagree with them. Americans used to solve big problems and in a pre-divided country era, we did a pretty good job. Now all we have is division and non-cooperation.
skudrunner, As my friend in Clearwater pointed out, the ACA is the law of the land, and part of Trump's duty is to see that the laws of the land are obeyed. If he or any in his administration work to further dismantle or disrupt what the ACA is supposed to do so that the ACA will explode or implode as Trump promises, they will be in violation of their oaths of office.
They will be working, as Dave pointed out, against the will of the American people.
What have you to say about that? Can you give us your thoughts without telling us for the gazillionth time that Nancy Pelosi said "we have to pass it first before we know what's in it."
Thanks.
I for one skudrunner anxiously await your reply to Shaw's question. You're a smart guy, a practical man and a business owner. Please do give your originalthoughts in response to Shaw's question.
It should be pointed out that Ryan has more problems to come.
He can't pass any tax reform without the Freedom Caucus getting spending cuts to balance the upper bracket tax cuts.
The health care bill was supposed to do that by eliminating subsidies for the poor and working class in order to cut taxes on the wealthy.
So the plan to lower the highest bracket from 39% to 31% is on hold.
Making America great. It's just a big money grab.
Ducky, DO you think Trump is beginning to understand that governing is not like campaigning where all he had to do was make ridiculous promises he can't keep in front of adoring crowds?
shaw, I think he's lost. He's back on his heels and doesn't know how to recover.
I expect he doesn't know to do much more than try to double down.
Still waiting for skudrunner to come here and say something other than snark...
Jay Willis, GW: "The biggest loser of this debacle, though, is Donald Trump, a political neophyte who wanted desperately to show he has the skills and temperament befitting the job he holds. One of the central premises of his presidential pitch was that he was The Closer, a preternaturally gifted negotiator who could get things done in the delicate situations in which feckless politicians, on their own, couldn't seal the deal. Instinctively, we knew that this was probably a lie, but the failure of the health-care-reform effort shows just how brazen a lie it was. Donald Trump was afforded every institutional advantage that a president with an ambitious legislative agenda could ask for, and when it came time to put those much-hyped skills into practice, he couldn't even get the thing past one legislative chamber. It is genuinely hard to screw up something this easy, but Trump, ever the innovator, somehow found a way."
That should read "Jay Willis GQ"
Ms Shaw,
obamacare is the law of the land and I feel confident DJT will obey the law. The part about he must obey the law is bunk. The federal govt does not enforce the law, immigration, pot. I think Calif has the right idea and start a state paid single payer system so those that want it can choose to live in Calif.
It seems like the American people voted their will by electing DJT who was going to replace obamacare. Why would anyone believe the repugs had a plan that would pass. They have had eight years to develop something to replace it and they did nothing.
Of course the dems had the same time to develop a workable plan and the did nothing as well.
skudrunner: "obamacare is the law of the land and I feel confident DJT will obey the law."
Shaw "I don't, and many other Americans don't. Trump is first and foremost a liar and a con man. Therefore, I do not trust him to obey the law. He's already vowed that Obamacare will "implode and explode," when those who know better have said it will not. That leads me to believe Trump and his cohorts will do all they can to sabotage Obamacare, the law.
skudrunner: "The part about he must obey the law is bunk. The federal govt does not enforce the law, immigration, pot."
Shaw The ACA is not about immigration or pot. You need to read up on the "The President and he Take Care Clause" of the US Constitution, scroll down on the link to read it.
skudrunner: It seems like the American people voted their will by electing DJT who was going to replace obamacare.
Shaw It seems the American people (Trump voters, anyway) discovered that they disliked Obamacare but liked the ACA. Also, a majority of Americans did NOT VOTE FOR TRUMP. 62 million voted for him, 74 million voted for other people. Trump's approval is in the 30s, the worst approval rate of any newly elected president in modern American history. There's a reason for his dismal approval rating: He's a horrible person and a horrible president.
skudrunner: "Why would anyone believe the repugs had a plan that would pass. They have had eight years to develop something to replace it and they did nothing. Of course the dems had the same time to develop a workable plan and the did nothing as well."
Shaw You will not, like Trump, get away with lies. Sorry. That is what the above is. A lie. Mr. Obama began talking about and working on a health care bill in 2007 when he was a US Senator and before he was even a nominee for the presidency. You can look that up. When he became president, he worked for months to gain support, going to the American people and telling them about the proposed ACA, which was built on ideas from a conservative think tank (The Heritage Foundation), and on a plan that was in place in Massachusetts: ROMNEYCARE, another Republican idea.
Not one Republican got on board with the ACA, but because Obama is a better politician than the rank amateur and supposed gifted negotiator and deal maker, Trump, Obama was able to get this ground-breaking law passed. Even the SCOTUS ruled it was lawful. And what did the GOP do? It voted to repeal it 60+ times.
And when Republicans finally got hold of the presidency with control of Congress, they showed themselves to be the bunglers and phonies they are. They had 7+ years to come up with a plan and couldn't do it. Obama did it in 3 years. Trump knows bupkis about health care; he passed the buck to Ryan and Congress, his people have reported that he kept asking his aides "Is this a good bill?" Maybe if they put the bill on the 9th hole at Mar-a-Lago, he would have taken the time to look at it.
The FACT is that the Democrats got the tough work of writing and passing a health care bill done, and the ACA would have been a better law had the Republicans cooperated and worked on it with the Dems. They chose not to. Trump whined that not one Democrat voted for his Trumpcare? Is he that naive? Did he really expect any Democrat to vote against their former president's signature legislation? Trump sure doesn't know how to president, does he.
The American people, by a majority, now support the ACA. The Goopers don't know how to govern, otherwise they would never have made such fools of themselves and their president by trying to repeal the law. Only 17% of the American people were in favor of repeal and replace. And those were probably Trump's family.
