General John Kelly: "He said that, in his opinion, Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator if allowed, and had no understanding of the Constitution or the concept of rule of law."

If this doesn't turn your blood to ice, you're not paying attention.

Ann Kazala:

 "And so it begins.

I pondered on how the militia will take over. Papers to cross checkpoints. People that simply protest. This can lump any and all citizens into whatever activity they choose.

Anyone and everyone that voices opposition to the current regime can be arrested and prosecuted. Perhaps they will seize your assets as well. Perhaps put your children into the foster care system. Don’t for a second think this cannot happen.

This is how it starts, like a snake in the grass. You don’t see it or notice it until its about to strike.

 This is how democracy dies."

Text of HR 6054.

Sounds reasonable enough, right? Think again Considering the very probable likelihood of abuse by cons, rethugs, and overzealous law enforcement personnel this is one damn scary bill.

It's all about authority and tyranny. Thank you tRump and the conservative thugs.

Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." A lot of laws were put into effect after 9/11 and setting up the new Homeland Security Department. Cheney and Bush have blame for many outrageous laws that they claimed were for our security. But when it comes to outrageous nobody can beat Trump.

We should remember that the American people were all gung-ho for those new laws until they ran into the consequences of some of the fine print.

When FDR put American-Japanese into internment camps Americans were all for that also.

The demise of America will come wrapped in our own flag by supposed patriots, not some foreign attackers. (I forgot who said that)

From SNOPES:

Though we have found passages by other authors that share certain words, phrases, and sentiments in common with the quote attributed to Lewis, we have not found an exact match anywhere. We came across this bit, for example, in coverage of a speech by one James Waterman Wise Jr. in the 5 February 1936 edition of The Christian Century:

James Waterman Wise, Jr., in a recent address here before the liberal John Reed club said that Hearst and Coughlin are the two chief exponents of fascism in America. If fascism comes, he added, it will not be identified with any “shirt” movement, nor with an “insignia,” but it will probably be “wrapped up in the American flag and heralded as a plea for liberty and preservation of the constitution.”

And this observation appeared in John Thomas Flynn’s As We Go Marching, published in 1944:

But when fascism comes it will not be in the form of an anti-American movement or pro-Hitler bund, practicing disloyalty. Nor will it come in the form of a crusade against war. It will appear rather in the luminous robes of flaming patriotism; it will take some genuinely indigenous shape and color, and it will spread only because its leaders, who are not yet visible, will know how to locate the great springs of public opinion and desire and the streams of thought that flow from them and will know how to attract to their banners leaders who can command the support of the controlling minorities in American public life. The danger lies not so much in the would-be Fuhrers who may arise, but in the presence in our midst of certainly deeply running currents of hope and appetite and opinion. The war upon fascism must be begun there.

RN, the bill as written stinks. It's the fascist's camel's nose in the tent. Really, really troubling in the Era of Trump.

Just what are the activities associated with anti-fascist activists? The wording is so poor that even the current SCOTUS might overturn it. But the purpose is intimidation.

Donald and the Brown Shirts just went through a round of trials of the people arrested during the inauguration and came up with no convictions. The courts still have some integrity but for how long the way they've been packed by tRump.

So, Republicans are trying to make it illegal to be anti-fascist? Or at least illegal to say anti-fascist statement? Like f*ck all fascists?

That's the reason it's so important to take back at least the House of Reps in November. If you live in a safe, safe district don't be afraid to throw a few dollars to a candidate in a toss-up district.

Ducky, Maybe the bill as written would sound better in the original German?

Jerry, I hope the bill fails. But if it doesn't, we need to all carry anti-fascist signs the next time we protest the Trump regime and its criminals.

Kevin, Good advice.
